I have a cat. He’s an orange tabby with way more personality than brains. My husband has a theory that the smart cats are more aloof, hence the ones with personality make good pets but have short-comings in the intellectual department. This cat is undeniable proof of his theory.
Remember the beautiful bag I made with the Big Shot? Well, I had help. When I posted about the bag, my daughter told me I needed to share the pictures of my helper with you. I know her reasoning. She’s living in Australia now and she misses this big knucklehead. Most mornings about 3am I would be more than glad to send him to her. So Carol, these are for you:

OK, if you have a cat I’m sure you know what’s coming next, right??
At this point I yell at him and tell him to beat it. Unfortunately, this cat has a mis-placed worship crisis. I am his Cat-Mother, the one who feeds him, brushes him, and gives him his pill (don’t ask me why, he thinks it’s a treat to have a little black sphere crammed down his throat every morning). I am also Head Nurse/Veterinary Technician, cleaning and bandaging his wounds when he finds himself on the losing end of a turf battle. He feels obligated to grace me with his company.
Of course he’s purring. You know how long this lasted?
He was actually pulling the pins out of the pin cushion with his teeth. At that point I decided it was a beautiful day outside and he needed some fresh air. Pronto.
When we brought him home we named him Duke but no one calls him that. The kids call him Pookie. My husband usually calls him Knucklehead. I generally call him Meat Ball, Captain Stupid Head, or when I’m really annoyed, something unprintable. Use your imagination.

These pictures are TOO funny!! I have 4 cats, so I know just how “helpful” they can be. Somehow, I’ve been able to keep them off my crafting table, but probably only because I have a basket up high (on some of my stacked bins) for them to watch my every move. Thanks for sharing these pics!! :o)

My cat is one of those half exotic ones, and climbs to the top of Maple trees. So when I try to put my valuables [she LOVES to steal diamond jewelry and hide it!], she thinks it’s a game!!

The more nicknames you give your pet, the more you love him. But really, 3 a.m.? Our cat doesn’t start until 4:30. Maybe she’s not as much of a pain as I thought she was. I think I’ll give her a few more nicknames.

I love it! We have a 20 lb, 10-year-old cat who has been an “only child” for all of this 10 years – until about a month ago, when we adopted a 2-year-old Husky mix dog and moved to a new house all within the span of 2 weeks.
I can think of a few more names for your beautiful tabby… Stitches, Stitch, Pinhead!!!

Ah yes, cats are so helpful. Mine especially likes to sit on my journal as I’m writing and rub her chin against my pen. If I can get her far enough away to actually write anything, she fights for nose space so she can lick the ink on the paper. mm-mm. Considering she doesn’t eat any kind of cat treats or people food, I can’t imagine what’s appealing about drying ink.

Hilarious! Thank you for posting this! The animals with personality are more fun than the smarter ones. You never hear the family BBQ stories about “Percival Cat that just lays around and never gets his tail caught in anything”; or “Dunbar the Puppy that wisely walks slowly over the hard-wood floor because it’s really slippery without the proper grippage on the feet.”

But give me “Captain Stupid Head”, or in my case “Moose and Squirrel” (our German Shepherds, Jack and Jill), and I have plenty of stories and laughs for the whole family!

I can see my guy doing this very same thing! He always tries to eat my ribbon or any paper scraps that fall to the floor (because he’s ALWAYS under my desk when I’m in my room). He’s really more dog-like than any cat I’ve ever run across and must be by my side at all times. All 3 of ours follow me around and “help” with EVERYTHING! Gotta love them I guess. 🙂

The last cat I had was completely, totally nuts. I have a dog now, an Akita named Chaos. Although he gets called all sorts of other things too, like Fuzz Butt and Turkey Dog and Big Fuzzy.

That is too cute! I used to have a little orange tabby myself. SWEETEST, most loving cat I’ve either met. He never tried to tackle a sewing machine or pin cushion (YIKES – that’s a disaster waiting to happen!), but he did sneak into our drawers and steal rolled up socks. He could spend hours taking them apart, then leave them on the living room floor while sneaking back into the bedroom for another pair.
The ones with brains usually just sit around and preen all day looking smug. That’s no fun. 🙂

I love this post! My mom has two cats, both of whom feel it necessary to come running into the sewing room whenever she goes in there to quilt (you’d think she was sewing with strands of tuna…she’s not btw. Ew.) And Mattie sets up postition directly on the other side of the machine, blocking anything that is being sewn from being sewn with ease or efficiency. Cheyanne sets up shop near mom’s feet, inhibiting her ability to use the pedal for the sewing machine. And when she gets tired of it and shoos them outta there, they act like she’s beaten them (she hasn’t).
My cat will sit on my chest when I’m watching a movie, making it impossible to see the tv, unless I use my xray vision. She sits on top of the desk, right in front of the laptop, so that I cannot type. She sits on top of open books, or in between the book and my eyes, or rubs the book from behind, so that if I continue to try to read, I get motionsickness.
Sometimes, I think that cats have been sent here to ensure that we get nothing productive done! 🙂

I loved the photos. I love cats, but can’t have any pets due to my son’s health. Yes, we are allergic to animals, but the doctor didn’t find that out until I had my cat for 15 years. My cat lived for 21 years. Loved her! Miss her! Everyone hug your cats for me!

We have a male orange tabby named Paisley. He looks just like yours and some of his antics with you are just like him with us. We wanted a big sloppy “engaged” dog-cat with personality and someone said if you want that, get a male orange guy. We love him more than anything. I call her a blonde (but maybe it’s because she takes after me…blonde at heart 😦 ). She’s not so smart and does things that are questionable. She’s burnt her tail on candles multiple times (she never learns, even after I shoo her away), and she meows like there’s no tomorrow in front of the bathroom door as if there is something she absolutely NEEDS on the other side. Oh and she likes to play fetch with the twisty tie.

Cats are such wonderfully curious creatures. I remember when my cat seemed to always want to be wherever I was.

I also soon learned that sometimes, my cat was trying to communicate with me. That is, maybe what I was doing when the cat was coming to ‘bother’ me was something I needed a break from and my cat could see that. So, the cat would come over to distract me and give me a break. 🙂

Love your blog and love Mr Knucklehead!! I do have a cat, an 18 year old lady who is very special. (read whatever you like into that “special”). She too thinks her daily thyroid medication is a treat (it is stuffed into a meat stick type of snack) it has become her “crack stick” – every evening about the same time she DEMANDS her meds…lol!

Oh I can relate to the stupidity of pets! We just started letting our eight month old kitten outside, and he goes out for a while but then cries at the door so that he can come INSIDE to use the litter box. I’m hoping he’ll learn soon.

Oh my! He looks just like my Hefna! He to likes to help, chews on wires…cost me $46.00 for new Cricut cord! He likes to tease the dogs, 2 German Shorthair Pointers & 1 Rottweiler. Hefna, 8yrs, along with his sister, Annie, and a 10 yr old Siamese, Prince round out our family. Hefna is the only one that gets into trouble, if he cannot find trouble he make it!
I think the personality has to do with the coloration!

I love, love, love orange tabbys! They are just so cute, and so amazingly stupid and big dope cats, and you cat is certainly a knucklehead but he looks like a lovable knucklehead. My favorite cat was a cat we named Lucky, my folks found him in an empty parking lot and saved him from getting run over, and he was a super fat orange tabby who was not the smartest kitty either.

I have two cats [and three dogs], so I can relate. I love that he watched and waited and then ATTACKED!!! My oldest cat thinks he is so sneaky and “hides” around corners and pounces on me whenever I come into a room.

Funny! I have a cat like that; we think she has about 2 braincells and when they connect – for short spaces of time – she is actually almost basically clever, but the connection never stays long and you can actually see this glazed look kicking in…and then she is her normal stupid irritating and adorable self. The only skill she has is that she can open doors by mindlessly jumping onto their handles -sometimes it works, sometimes not, she couldn’t really be bothered.

Great company I guess. Most cats I saw are jumping and bouncing around, or just sleeping in the roof, or in the carpet. This DUKE seems to like you very very much, no wonder with such a care you gave him. In times it seems like a poor baby. If he become the prince in the story may he come with great designs as well. Seems like he is burning to find something out. Fun post!!!

Wow, I think Cats just have more personanlity period. Not like the dog whose just loving and not as smart. I think Cats have more energy as well. I just love em’ and I miss my cat who ran away and never came back=(

I love the photos. My cat has done the same thing when I sew. I was so afraid I was going to catch her tail until I chased her away. Ash always wants me to put her food in her dish first thing in the morning even if she doesn’t want to eat it right away. Everyone loves my cat that comes to visit. She is 15 years old and going strong.
