This is the card designed by the concept artists at Stampin’ Up! for the August My Paper Pumpkin Creative Escape. Of course, I had to play around and add my own touches. I used the polka dot background from the July kit (I KNOW, I haven’t made it up yet – I just did that May kit!!) I also added some Candy Dots with 1/2 inch circles over the flags I created with the self-adhesive strips that came in the kit. They’re just like washi!!

You know the trick with the Decorative Label punch, right? To create a mat, punch two labels in a contrast color, cut one down the middle long ways and the other down the middle short ways and adhere them to the base image with Tombo (the Wonder Adhesive).

I used the 3 inch Bigz circle die for the Cherry Cobbler label and made a Bermuda Bay paper flag and a Cherry Cobbler Chevron Ribbon flag for this card.

Washi for the College Man

My son had to admit that Washi could be useful:

The black diagonal Washi from the Epic Day This n That suite was the only one he considered acceptable, but he agreed that identifying his cables made sense.

He has a LOT of cables. Apple cables.

The ocean attacked his phone the day before he was supposed to fly back to campus. Good thing he worked that extra week, because he wasn’t planning on a new phone. Naughty ocean.

Saving My Convention Memories

My Paper Pumpkin for May pushed me to work outside the box:

Before you ask, that little tile in the corner was a swap and I LOVED it!!

This My Paper Pumpkin kit from May has sat on my stamp desk for a while as I decided what to do with it. In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t do a lot of scrapbooking. I have a really hard time choosing the photos – I think that’s what gets in my way. I really wanted to use this kit, but it took Convention to get me in the groove.

I’m gonna show you ALL the pages, but I’m not going into details on every product I used.

The My Paper Pumpkin kit included front and back covers, 6 pieces of DSP (6×6), 5 pre-cut DSP pages to fit the covers, 6 pages of self-adhesive embellishments, and a bag with 2 buttons and 2 arrow-shaped clip embellishments.

I needed MORE pages!! I added card stock pages and pulled out a heap of stamps. I also added mementos I collected at Convention.

Sometimes I journaled on the self-adhesive embellishments, and sometimes I wrote directly on the page.

That picture of Crystal in her Pineapple Sunglasses is my absolute FAVE.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!! Oi Oi Oi!! Wouldn’t you know it, we sat next to 3 demonstrators from Queensland, Australia for the opening General Session.

We really enjoyed meeting Stampin’ Up! staff, but Kathy Pitt (You Crew: Meet with an Illustrator) and Sara Brook-Humphrey (the My Paper Pumpkin girl – working in the Social Media booth) were special highlights.

I am so proud of my PINEAPPLE!

I’m also proud to have been part of the Guinness World Record for most greeting cards sent from a single location at one time.

Classes at convention are always outstanding. The class I enjoyed more this year was Carrie Cudney’s class “Living a Creative Life”. She had great quotes, great projects, and a great ice-breaker: We threw rolls of TP around the room!!

We wore those ridiculous Pineapple Sunglasses for 3 solid days. By Saturday afternoon my eyes were fatigued from looking through that cheapo plastic. We sure had fun with them!

I used Tombo (the Wonder Adhesive) to adhere DSP to the front and back sides of the covers, then used a little Washi to dress up the edges. All the holes were pre-punched. Still, to be completely honest, this was NOT a 30 minute project. I think I spent a couple of afternoons on it – but I did more than double the pages. Here’s the kit:

Swaps from the Maui Stampers

Today I’m pleased to share the talents of the Maui Stampers:

Cheryl used Sweater Weather DSP and the Magnificent Maple and Tags 4 You bundle for her card.

I love the pop of Coastal Cabana with the Modern Medley DSP! Stephanie used stamps from Happy Day and Express Yourself (hostess).

Robbie made these gorgeous Halloween Treats inspired by Pam Morgan’s stamping demonstration at convention.

Take a 6″ x 6″ square of DSP, run a line of Sticky Strip along one edge, and make a cone. You can see how the flap on the cone is tucked in at the top.

Don’t you love how Robbie used a smidge of gold embossing powder on that Vintage Button?

Ramona cut the Natural Composition Specialty paper with the Secret Garden Framelits and then used the Woodgrain TIEF to tie the elements of her card together.

Cheryl (two Cheryls!!) used the Kind & Cozy stamp set for this cheery card. This is a “you made my day” kind of card! She used a Pool Party panel behind a 3 3/4″ x 5″ note card to create extra interest.

Two Pineapples

Yeah, I kinda pulled out everything in the stamp studio for this one 🙂

The pineapples are inked with markers and masked. I carved just one pineapple, and I carved it in a hurry! It has a folksy, rustic look to it.

Didja break down and get the Thinlets Flip Card die yet? I confess that if I hadn’t seen them in person at convention I might not have been so anxious, but I did and I was so I ordered them on August 1st – the first day I could. The 5 chevron pieces are one of the accent dies that accompany the Circle Flip die.

I stamped this sentiment from Yippee Skippee three times in three colors of ink and cut them up. There’s a strip of Crushed Curry card stock stamped with the diagonal lines from Gorgeous Grunge behind the words to serve as an anchor. Lining that up was definitely a job for the Stamp-a-ma-jig.

If you stretch the entire card out, this is what the first side looks like. You’re seeing the front of the card, the back of the flip, and the inside of the card. The Baked Brown Sugar panel was run through the Honeycomb TIEF before I adhered it to the Old Olive card base. I added a strip of white card stock (more details HERE) to the inside for additional writing space, and I put a Crushed Curry 2 1/2″ circle behind the flip to give it a finished look. I might write an additional note here, or I might add a photo. And yes, this is an extended card. Patty Bennett has made an excellent tutorial – see it HERE.

Turn the card over to see the second side. If you look closely at the Natural Trim ribbon you’ll see that I butted the edges on the diagonal to create a finished edge – I didn’t want a knot or a bow. It also creates a more finished look over the scallop trim from the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die. I used a full-height piece of Sticky Strip to secure the trim.

This card looks a lot more complicated than it is – you could surely make one yourself.

Easy Custom Gift Bags

Lazy girl that I am, I cut a piece of ribbon and just clipped it on with the clothespin from the Tag a Bag accessory kit. That little rhinestone is a leftover from…something. A kit, the name of which I cannot remember or find. But you could take a plain rhinestone jewel and color it with a Sharpie® marker and get the same result.

Here’s what I did to stamp the bags:

I opened the package of bags and took them out.
I stamped them.

THAT’S IT. I did NOT wash, fold, dry, iron or otherwise pay any attention to these bags. I used Stampin’ Up! Classic Ink. It dried to the touch but I noticed that as I stuffed the bags the ink would transfer to my hands, so I recommend allowing them to dry overnight before gifting them – there was no ink transfer the next day for me. I stamped 4 different times – the 2-step flower image in Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple, the stem in Old Olive, and the sentiment in Raspberry Ripple – and didn’t have any problems with smearing.

I made a bunch of these for my Hostess Club members. They’re filled with a cute stamp and some Trader Joe’s Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels (I think I’m happy that TJ’s isn’t in Hawaii because these would become an ISSUE for me). These bags are a perfect last-minute-gift solution! I’ve got a stash on hand and I think you should too 🙂

What could be better? Best of Shelli

Each of these images really does say “Shelli Gardner” in my mind. I had a good time stretching my usual sense of style to play with the textures available with these varied images, and of course once you start cutting out flags it’s really hard to stop 🙂

I have a soft spot for typewriters – I’ve got my grandfather’s old Royal in its traveling case. He used to take it on the train every day from Redwood City to San Francisco as a VP for Pacific Far East Line. I vividly remember riding with my grandmother late summer afternoons to the train station to wait for Gramps to get home.

This has a TOTALLY different feeling, doesn’t it? If you look closely you’ll see I didn’t bother to align these images perfectly – no Stamp-a-ma-jig this time! I was feeling terribly cavalier and did some “eyeball inking” – imagine that!!

This looks straight onto the Flip Circle portion of the card – you can see how everything is lined up. I trimmed a smidge off the Tea Party doily so that it would fit around the curve created by the thinlet.

Here’s my trick for that two-tone effect. I ran a piece of Whisper White card stock through with the thinlet, overlapping just the last scoring bar. It was easy to line up that folded line on my Stampin’ Trimmer and take the flap off so that I could adhere the back panel to the card base.

Here’s what it looks like flattened out from the front – well, it’s the front of the card and the front of the second page, and the back of the Circle Flip – if you can follow my fronts and backs!

Here’s what it looks like if you flip the “flattened out front” card onto the reverse side.

One more angle for you to see! Although it appears that the front panel is NOT Pistachio Pudding, I assure you that it is. This Thinlet is really fun to play with!

Ink and Painters’ Tape

I didn’t say it was NEAT. I said it was easy. We did this card at Hostess Club and I brought out the box o’ Costco Disposable Gloves. Cuz a lot of my stampers have gorgeous manicures (not moi).

5 Steps:

Put on gloves
Rip off a piece of tape
Press the tape onto the FFIP (sticky side down)
Press the tape onto the card stock
Peel it off

And don’t you think Crisp Cantaloupe, Baked Brown Sugar and Very Vanilla belong together? If you figure that one out, could you please bring some to me?

Convention Swap: Over the Top Tags

This tag measures 3 1/2 x 6 inches. The two base layers were shaped using the Window Frame framelits – just cut your card stock to the width of the framelit, place the framelit at the top of the panel and run into your Big Shot just far enough to cut the top, then back it out.

Love that glimmer paper – I haven’t used it much lately, but Sparkle Season is coming!!

This swap produced absolutely gorgeous samples – thank you, ladies in Group 1- and a special thanks to my swap angel, Lynn Marshall, who stepped in to actually swap my tags when I developed a time conflict.

Stampin’ with the Maui Stampers!

Maui Stampers is my blog, and it’s also my Stampin’ Up! group name!

Crystal and I came back from convention loaded with ideas, inspiration and most of all, SWAPS! We wanted to share as much as we could, as quickly as we could, with the Maui Stampers who were unable to make the trip to Salt Lake. We put together a wild and crazy Stamp-a-palooza. I’ve shared a few of the projects but there are just too many to keep posting one at a time, and they’re all pretty simple since we were in production mode. Here are the rest, in no particular order:

I’m just giving quickie info on these – this one is Zoo Babies in Gumball Green, Calypso Coral and Coastal Cabana, with a bit of Epic Day Washi Tape along the back.

This is Toil and Trouble with Teeny Tiny Wishes – it’s hard to see, but the black card base is embossed with the Stripes Embossing folder. That Vintage Button is filled with Black Glitter from the Holiday catalog and I am telling you, that stuff is GLITTERY!!! Mr. Maui Stamper woulda had a fit if I’d brought this out at home, but we were Some Where Else. Thank goodness.

I am IN LOVE with You’re My Hero! It’s not just for kids, either – I have some things to share in another week or so that I think you’re gonna love.

Simply Sketched is a hostess set, and I think it’s a bit of a sleeper. The images are beautiful line art and the sentiments are things you need. I chose Pear Pizazz and Baked Brown Sugar for this sympathy card.

Gorgeous Grunge is another catalog sleeper – and it is SO MUCH FUN!! Just slap on that ink, baby!! There’s a little Witches Brew Washi on this card – Washi is translucent so you can get extra dimension by layering it over a stamped image. The greeting is Label Love – don’t miss the savings on that bundle! And yes, I hand-cut the sentiment to layer it. It’s not that hard 🙂

This last card uses Too Kind, one of the first sets I purchased from the new catalog. I’ve used it for so many things – those big, free form flowers are so versatile and easy to stamp. I do NOT use the Stamp-a-ma-jig on them, much as I love it – these are just Bash and Stamp images! Love that new Tags 4 You set in the Holiday catalog – you’ll see more of that, too. Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe are the perfect tone-on-tone combo.

And just for fun, here we are:

Stampers and guests! These are brave women – it was a little bit touch-and-go as Ms. Hurricane Flossie tried to rain on our parade. But neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Or stamping.
