Believe

Isn’t this the perfect message for December?

Maui Stamper 2013 Calendar December

  • Snowflake Soiree and Snow Swirled (retired) stamp sets
  • Whisper White and Marina Mist card stock
  • Marina Mist and Night of Navy FFIP
  • Pool Party Shimmer Spray*
  • Rhinestone Jewels

December is about Believing…believing the spring will come, believing in Santa and all the goodness he represents, believing in the Christ Child born in Bethlehem, born to redeem us all.

*Shimmer spray is made with a few drops of Stampin’ Up! ink refill mixed with 70% rubbing alcohol and Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  To my deep dismay, Champagne Mist is now retired.  However, as I’ve noted before, these calendar cards were made in a class last January when Champagne Mist was still part of our product line – as was the Snow Swirled stamp set.  You’re welcome to improvise!!

And…it’s time to look ahead to 2014!  We’ll be making the new Easel calendar this Saturday, December 7 at 9am.  It’s $13 for the calendar plus easel or $10 if you have your own easel.  Contact me ASAP if you’d like to join us.

Finally, stop by this morning and visit me at the St. Theresa Church Cookie Walk and Craft Fair.  It’s in Stawasz Hall at 25 West Lipoa Street, Kihei from 8am until noon.  Cookies PLUS Crafts?  I don’t see how you could resist 🙂

Stillness in the trees

Maui Stamper 2013 Calendar November

  • Lovely as a Tree stamp set
  • Whisper White and Always Artichoke card stock
  • Always Artichoke and Marina Mist FFIP
  • Soft Suede, Always Artichoke and Garden Green Stampin’ Write markers
  • Blender pen
  • Stampin’ Sponge

It’s difficult to see in this photo, but the “sky” is very lightly and randomly sponged with Marina Mist.  It was too white left as is.

Does this stamp make you think of a quiet, still wood?  I can imagine myself walking here.  Just the thing for a winter day. (Someplace else, of course.  Not on Maui.)

Ooo! Boo!

So Scary!!

(NOT)

Maui Stamper 2013 Calendar October

  • Googly Ghouls (retired)
  • Whisper White and Pumpkin Pie card stock
  • Black Staz-on ink
  • Pumpkin Pie FFIP
  • Blender Pen
  • Self-stick Googlie eyes (retired)

I’m sorry about the retired stamps and the Googlie eyes – these monthly calendar cards were done as a class in January of this year, and this stamp set was current back then!  Those Googlie Eyes were one of the best ideas the Home Office had, and these goofy characters are my favorite Halloween images ever.  So sad they’re both retired.

September Travels

August 2017:  Edited to correct the stamp set.

My observant reader, Roberta Koster, contacted me this week to let me know that I’d listed the wrong stamp set with this calendar page. It’s not Travel Post, it’s Postage Due.  Thank you for submitting this correction, Roberta!!!

Back in the BC (Before Children) days, Mr. Maui Stamper and I loved to travel in September.  All the families with children were home starting school, the weather was still perfect in most parts of the world, and we enjoyed the relative calm of traveling off-season.

Then we had children.

Now we live the “Duo Life” again.  (We decided  the term “Empty Nest” is negative.)  September travels await!

Maui Stamper 2013 Calendar September

  • Postage Due    Travel Post stamp set
  • Whisper White and Island Indigo card stock
  • Melon Mambo and Island Indigo Stampin’ Write markers
  • Basic Grey FFIP

The only trick to this one is that those words were selectively inked on the biggest image in the Travel Post set.  Everything else is quick and easy!

Sum-Sum-Summertime!!

Nothing says summer to me like bright yellow flowers:

Maui Stamper 2013 Calendar August

  • Summer Silhouettes stamp set
  • Whisper White and Daffodil Delight card stock
  • Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango and Real Red FFIP
  • Rhinestone Jewels
  • Pearl Jewels
  • Red “Sharpie” marker

Summer Silhouettes is one of my favorite all time stamp sets and I was tremendously relieved when it survived the Social Security line (Stampin’ Up! Retiring Stamps List).  I’ve used it for my daughter’s wedding invitation, countless swaps, cards, and projects.   The images are clean and graceful and I  honestly don’t think you make anything but a beautiful project using this stamp set!

Coloring the rhinestone with a Sharpie takes about 3 seconds and is a fun little step-up technique.

Floating high in July

I’ve only been in a hot air balloon once but it was an extraordinary experience.  When they are inflating the balloon, the burners are really noisy, but once you get into the air and you’re floating along it is incredibly quiet and serene.  The ground below you moves by with almost surreal speed, smoothly and silently.  I would love to go up again.

Maui Stamper 2013 Calendar July

  • Collage Curios stamp set (retired)
  • Real Red and Whisper White card stock
  • Real Red, Marina Mist, Gumball Green and Summer Starfruit FFIP
  • Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker

Ink up the little hot air balloons and then use your Black Stampin’ Write marker to swipe across the bottom to highlight the basket.  You don’t have to wipe off the colored ink first.

Again, my apologies for featuring a retired stamp set but these calendar cards were created in January for a class and the stamps were part of our product line at that time.

June on a wire

I love birds.

I love hearing the cardinal first thing in the morning; at dawn the male is always at the top of the Cook Island Pine across the street from my house.  On a perfect day, it’s his “Good Morning” that wakes me up.  If I’m too sound asleep (read: stayed up way too late stamping) then I miss his song, and it’s the shrill, repetitive call of the Francolin that shatters my dreams.  Either way, it’s a pleasure to lie in bed for a few minutes listening to all the diffferent bird voices as the day begins.

Maui Stamper June 2013 calendar

  • For the Birds Stamp set
  • Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight and Pool Party Stampin’ Write markers
  • Pool Party FFIP
  • Stampin’ Sponge
  • Simply Scored
  • Borders Scoring Plate

The first time I stamped this design, I used the stamp just as is….but the wires that the birds sit on started and stopped in the middle of the calendar page and it bothered me.  I added the sponging to make it seem more complete but I was just kidding myself.

Then my Simply Scored Borders Scoring Plate arrived in my pre-order from the Spring Catalog (I LOVE GETTING PRE-ORDERS.)  It had the perfect curves to make edge-to-edge wires!  I scored them first, then without moving the guides ran the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write marker in the score lines to further define them.

Every once in a while, I amaze even myself.

May Dandelion Wishes

These flowers don’t have quite round enough a shape to be dandelions, but that’s what I see in them. I have enough of a romantic side that I still think of wishes when I see dandelions, not weed seeds heading off to yet another lawn.

Maui Stamper May 2013 Calendar

  • Summer Silhouettes and Collage Curios stamp sets
  • Regal Rose and Lucky Limeade FFIP
  • Blender pen
  • Pink Pirouette Shimmer Mist in a Stampin’ Spritzer

You do know that you can make any color of Shimmer Mist (just a little Champagne Mist Shimmer paint mixed with rubbing alcohol) by adding a few drops from an Ink Refill don’t you? I always have a bunch of Stampin’ Spritzers on hand. They’re flat-out CHEAP and always good for a quick Wow.

Hurry off to the OnlineStore for your Champagne Shimmer – it’s headed for retirement.

April Farewells

In April, we usually bid farewell to the humpback whales that spend the winter off our islands.  I say usually because their arrival and departures are guided by their own internal clocks rather than the calendar.

It’s hard for me to describe the thrill I feel watching whales in our waters.  They’re huge – the size of a school bus – and yet they can launch almost their entire bodies out of the water to create a spectacular crashing splash.  Naturalists believe that there are a lot of reasons for that behavior, including the simple desire for fun.  It’s always a joy when the first sighting is reported, and as the sightings become fewer and farther apart there’s a sense of sad farewell.

Maui Stamper April 2013 calendar

  • Oh Whale stamp set
  • Bashful Blue and Wild Wasabi FFIP
  • Happy Whale Clearlits die
  • Rhinestone jewels

I suppose I could have hand-trimmed the whale image, but why would I do that when there’s a Clearlit that will save me the trouble?

Moving forward into March

On Maui, our seasons change gradually.  I lived in upstate New York for a year and a half when Mr Maui Stamper was in grad school, and I have never anticipated spring so eagerly in my life!  When I spotted that first crocus popping up through the snow I felt as though I had been thrown a lifeline.  The colors I remember inspired this month’s calendar:

Maui Stamper March 2013 calendar

  • Bordering on Romance stamp set
  • Midnight Muse FFIP
  • Pink PIrouette, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue and So Saffron Stampin’ Write markers
  • Whisper White and Midnight Muse card stock
