One Layout Three Ways

Earlier this month I sent my club members the card stock and ribbon for this layout, and we crafted our own versions via Zoom. Who knew that I had chosen to create my samples with 3 stamp sets from the 2020 Last Chance List? Not sure if I was prescient or just lucky. I’m guessing lucky.

The process worked far better than I anticipated (OK, I had no expectations!). We shared images while we worked, asked for and got great advice, and had a good opportunity to catch up. It wasn’t quite the same as getting together (one group is notorious for fabulous food!) but it was a good substitute under the circumstances. We’ve already planned our next Zoom!

The Elephant Builder punch is what really MAKES this card, and it’s currently on sale in the Online Store. It’s the ear. I love the ear!

A note on Stampin’ Blends: You’ve seen them on the Last Chance list – I know I did, and I may or may not have said a Very Bad Word when I saw them! They’re NOT RETIRING. They will be repackaged and sold in pairs, one light, one dark, instead of as single markers. No need to panic.

Both Piece of Cake and the Cake Builder punch are retiring, and the punch is on sale for $10.80. Take a look at this set, because there are a lot of great sentiments as well as really fun images! The self-adhesive Gingham Sequins are on their way out as well.

I stamped the cake layers multiple times on Whisper White and Highland Heather card stock using Memento Ink. I cut the layers apart (the stamp has them stacked together, one large, one small) so that I could alternate the White layer with the Heather layer.

Another Little Elephant

Little Elephant is one of my favorite animal stamp sets. It’s whimsical, but it’s not cartoonish. Does that make sense? I created a baby card using this same template in yellows and greys, and wanted to try it in pink. I chose Rococco Rose, and I haven’t decided if it’s too dark for a baby. What do you think?

Once you make a template for the Stamparatus, the wreath cards are super simple! I have a few more to share with you, and I have a feeling that won’t be the end of them, either. Every time I look at a new stamp set now, I imagine it as a wreath!

The Envelope Punch board is on the Clearance Rack, too – just the thing to make a coordinating envelope for a square card. Shop HERE.

Little Elephant Goes Round and Round

I’m on a Stamparatus Wreath Carousel and I can’t get off!!

You know how it is…you’re staring at your craft supplies waiting for inspiration…and WHAM!! It happened to me recently with this Little Elephant. Maybe someone else has already done this, but it’s new to me!

The sentiment is from Little Elephant too, and I thought it was just right – especially with that little bird. The 1 1/4″ circle punch is now retired, but there are plenty of dies available that will give you this look. Confession: I was lazy and the punches were convenient!

The tiniest pearls make perfect eyes without the comic effect that a googly eye would give. I may go back with a Sharpie and add a little black accent to the pearls, as it gives them more dimension.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up August 2019 Demo Promotion

Sale-a-bration: So Hoppy Together

Granny Apple Green is one of my favorite new greens in our color palette, and immediately presented itself as the perfect Frog color as I contemplated my options for So Hoppy Together. I’m no herpetologist, but I know a happy frog when I see one, and a Granny Apple Green frog is a Happy Frog!

Does anyone besides me remember that weird cartoon about the singing frog? And the guy who finds him and thinks he’ll be famous? And the frog won’t sing for anyone else? This little frog needs a top hat and I think he could play that role. (If this makes no sense to you, ignore it. That happens to me a lot. After they give me The Look.)

The handful of hearts reminds me of a bouquet, or a balloon, or even a scatter of those little cutout things that people put on the table when they’re decorating for a party and then you find them EVERYWHERE later on. They’re not quite as bad as glitter, but they’re up there. You  know what I mean.

I’m delighted with the Stitched Rectangle Framelits. The set includes nesting sizes in different aspect ratios so you have a lot of options. The framelits leave stitching on both the positive and negative sides of the die cut – Stampin’ Up! really did their homework on this one!

I folded the Lovely Lipstick ribbon from the All My Love ribbon pack and left a tail hanging. I actually stapled the top together so I wouldn’t have to try to hold it in place as I was adhering it between the DSP and the focal panel. There’s Tear ‘n Tape on both sides of the ribbon embellishment holding it in place.

Happy Birthday, Little Elephant

This Little Elephant was at the top of my shopping list for the 2018-2019 catalog. (I know, I know, I’ve already told you that. But TRUTH.)

Stampin’ Up! has cataloged this stamp under babies and kids, but I know a lot of adults who think it’s pretty dang cute and would be happy to see it in their mailbox on their birthday.

So I made a bunch of them.

I hand cut the balloons. Little Elephant is available as a bundle with a punch, but it doesn’t include the balloons. Had to be done. Love my Paper Snips!

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Little Elephant Bermuda Bay

You didn’t think I would make them exactly alike, did you? Of course not. I had a lot of fun playing with color – this is Bermuda Bay, Gorgeous Grape, and So Saffron.

Please don’t ask me about that little black rhinestone for the eye. It’s retired, I have no idea how long ago, and I’m pretty sure it was on the Clearance Rack. It’s not there now, but when it was, I bought an “adequate” supply. (Don’t ask, don’t tell.)

The Pearlized Doilies are really easy to color with Sponge Daubers, and you get great coverage. Sponge Daubers are much firmer than Stampin’ Sponges and add a more dense layer of ink.  I only colored around the edge, because that’s what shows (sort of like just ironing the front of your shirt if you’re gonna wear a jacket anyway.)

Little Gray Elephant: Colour INKspiration 38

I missed the last Colour INKspiration challenge, and creating something for #CI38 was a high priority this weekend. The Little Elephant bundle has been on my desk this week and it didn’t take me long to imagine how it would work perfectly with the palette of Gray Granite, Petal Pink, Berry Burst, Basic Black and Whisper White:

Stampers in the know might have already spotted that Berry Burst Tropical Elements flower. They don’t come in that color, and I had to get pretty creative to make it happen! Stampin’ Up! doesn’t currently sell a Berry Burst Stampin’ Blends marker, which would have been my first choice. I used a Sponge Dauber to add Berry Burst ink to the button, then lightly tapped it into the Versamark Ink and dusted it with Clear Embossing Powder. When I heat set that combination, the color was too light. I ended up repeating the process two more times with just the Berry Burst Ink and the Embossing Powder to get the color I wanted. I used the end of a wooden skewer to hold the button while I blasted it with the Heat Gun.

I also used Sponge Daubers to color the edge of the Pearlized Doily, and I used a Gray Granite Stampin’ Write marker to tone down the Linen Thread. I keep a nice little stash of Sponge Daubers because they are such a quick and easy solution to coloring just about anything. Need some – or need to make a last minute order of Designer Series Paper before the Buy 3 Get One Free sale runs out on July 31? Shop HERE if you’re in the United States.

Here’s the inspiration photo for the Colour Inkspiration challenge. It’s a Facebook group and you don’t need a blog – you can upload directly to their page to participate. It’s an absolutely lovely group of crafters, and the projects are always top notch.  Be sure to tag your post with #CI38.  Enjoy!
