A Glorious Birthday Card in a Box

I love that word – Glorious.  It’s one of Crystal‘s favorites 🙂  And it’s very appropriate for this card:

Maui Stamper Happy Birthday Glorious Card in a BoxYes, it’s full of Sale-a-bration product that you can no longer get…and I’m sorry.  But for those of you who have leftover Sweet Sorbet paper, you need some ideas, right?

Maui Stamper Happy Birthday Glorious Card in a BoxI had a fabulous time with this one – there’s a lot crammed into a little space.  I used the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die (so sad this is retiring!!) to help stabilize the folds.  In my excitement I scored them a leetle bit too hard and they were thinking about breaking, so that Calypso Coral scallop actually folds and adheres inside the wall of the box to give it strength.

Maui Stamper Happy Birthday Glorious Card in a BoxLots of flowers – Petal Parade from SAB but also Petite Petals and the little scallop from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack (also retiring).  That gorgeous Happy Birthday is from the retiring stamp set You’re Amazing – and is only available now in wood.

Maui Stamper Happy Birthday Glorious Card in a BoxSome of the flowers and cut and layered for extra dimension, and you can just see the window sheet strip that allows that Petite Petal to fly.

Maui Stamper Happy Birthday Glorious Card in a BoxThere’s a cupcake with a single candle right in the middle!

Maui Stamper Happy Birthday Glorious Card in a BoxI even made a coordinating envelope.  Hope you enjoy!

Santa loves a little bling

You just have to listen to him say “Ho ho ho” to know he’s the kind of guy who would wear a big shiny belt buckle:

Maui Stamper handmade bag in a box Season of StyleWe sparkled up the Bag-in-a-box with some silver Glimmer paper at ACCE.  That stuff is seriously awesome, although when you cut it sometimes little bits of blingy-ness come loose and fly around the craft room.  So far we haven’t had any Glitter Issues, because I have been vigilant with the stick-vac.  One of these days I know I’m gonna push it too far and there will be a meeting of the minds 🙂

Maui Stamper handmade bag in a box Season of StyleWe had a few crafters who were unable to attend at the last minute, and hopefully they’ll be able to assemble their packets based on our photos.  There’s a tutorial HERE that will help too.  You could adapt the dimensions to create different size packages.  The key is the glimmer paper!

Maui Stamper handmade bag in a box Season of StyleI made a couple of these in different papers from the Season of Style 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper pack.  This one totally cracked me up when I finished it because it looks just like pajamas to me.  Santa must have a velvet dressing gown to go with these!

Two Pineapples

I inked up my Undefined Pineapple:

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined Pineapple

  • Undefined hand carved Pineapple
  • The Good Life stamps, May 2013 My Paper Pumpkin
  • Gorgeous Grunge and Yippee Skippee stamp sets
  • Old Olive, Baked Brown Sugar, Crushed Curry and Whisper White card stock
  • Old Olive, Crushed Curry and Baked Brown Sugar FFIP
  • Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Crushed Curry and Baked Brown Sugar Stampin’ Write markers
  • Natural Trim ribbon
  • 2 1/2 inch circle punch
  • Big Shot and Thinlets Circle Flip card die
  • Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die
  • Honeycomb TIEF
  • Stamp-a-ma-jig
  • Sticky Strip
  • Stampin’ Sponge

Yeah, I kinda pulled out everything in the stamp studio for this one 🙂

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined PineappleThe pineapples are inked with markers and masked.  I carved just one pineapple, and I carved it in a hurry!  It has a folksy, rustic look to it.

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined PineappleDidja break down and get the Thinlets Flip Card die yet?  I confess that if I hadn’t seen them in person at convention I might not have been so anxious, but I did and I was so I ordered them on August 1st – the first day I could.  The 5 chevron pieces are one of the accent dies that accompany the Circle Flip die.

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined PineappleI stamped this sentiment from Yippee Skippee three times in three colors of ink and cut them up.  There’s a strip of Crushed Curry card stock stamped with the diagonal lines from Gorgeous Grunge behind the words to serve as an anchor.  Lining that up was definitely a job for the Stamp-a-ma-jig.

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined PineappleIf you stretch the entire card out, this is what the first side looks like.  You’re seeing the front of the card, the back of the flip, and the inside of the card.  The Baked Brown Sugar panel was run through the Honeycomb TIEF before I adhered it to the Old Olive card base.  I added a strip of white card stock (more details HERE) to the inside for additional writing space, and I put a Crushed Curry 2 1/2″ circle behind the flip to give it a finished look.  I might write an additional note here, or I might add a photo.  And yes, this is an extended card.  Patty Bennett has made an excellent  tutorial – see it HERE.

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined PineappleTurn the card over to see the second side.  If you look closely at the Natural Trim ribbon you’ll see that I butted the edges on the diagonal to create a finished edge – I didn’t want a knot or a bow.  It also creates a more finished look over the scallop trim from the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die.  I used a full-height piece of Sticky Strip to secure the trim.

Maui Stamper handmade card Undefined PineappleThis card looks a lot more complicated than it is – you could surely make one yourself.

Sneakin’ a peak at Framelits

My new Occasions Mini catalog demonstrator pre-order arrived almost a week ago and I have been so busy that most of my goodies have had to patiently wait in the studio.  One of the things I’m most excited about is a new product called Framelits.  I can’t show you the product itself, but I can show you what it can do!!

Sizzix Framelits labels

Don’t you love that shape?  I can see so many uses for this!  I put these together very quickly (remember, it’s been kinda busy around here) but even a quickie project gets a big boost from framelits!

Sizzix Framelits Labels

This is just a little bit of Designer Series Paper (Frostwood Lodge #124002) wrapped around a package of gum.  Because  was making a bunch of these, I used the Tasteful Trim die to mass produce strips of scallops.  A quick stamp, some shimmer paint bling and a couple of dimensionals and I was done!  A simple little gift for the holidays that doesn’t have any calories – and heaven knows, I could use a few more gifts like that!

One more bag and the weekend is done!

And now a gift bag in the traditional colors of the season:

Stitched Stockings Gift Bag

(This bag is perfectly straight – the photographer has “issues”!)

Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive make a bright and cheery Christmas combination.  Stampin’ Up! really knocked our socks off (get it?? c’mon, you’ve gotta at least giggle) with the Stitched Stockings stamp set and coordinating punch.  Seems like every other project I’ve done this year has had a stocking theme – but they’re all so different!

The big scallops on the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die are echoed in the small scallops from the Scallop Trim border punch, and I am crazy about those tiny little jingle bells .  You can stick them on with a Glue Dot if you’re in a rush, but for things that I want to last I use a little piece of beading wire.  (I know, I get kind of goofy with stuff like that).

The best part about using gift bags is that they are re-usable!  No more mountains of gift paper piled up and thrown away.  It’s not such a small thing, you know – but even if it were, small gestures add up and become significant.  Use a gift bag this year – and next year too!

A tisket, a tasket

Try to get away for a little anniversary weekend and what happens?  Captain Stupidhead thinks he’s been abandoned (he wasn’t, my son was here) and hasn’t left me alone for a second today.  He’s like a two-year-old, and if you could see me this very minute you would see his big orange cat-self leaning on the keyboard.   In case I miss that, he gets up every few minutes and sticks his head in my face.  This has the effect of showering me with cat hair, which is oh-so-pleasant. (It’s better than him yawning, because his cat-breath is indescribable.)

Earlier today, when I was putting dishes away, he wrapped himself around my legs and cried like a baby.  I swear he’s saying “UP! UUUUUPPPP!!” in that briefly endearing but quickly annoying way that toddler’s have.  Prior to that, I was trying to take some photos for you:

Square Eastern trimmed basket

This is the “before” basket,  a 2-4-6-8 basket trimmed with retired Designer Series Paper bits and pieces run through the Big Shot with the Tasteful Trim die.  I had a better idea and my plan was to show you the two projects, but I had “help”:

Hmmm...what have we here?

The photo is  blurry because he is in motion, rapidly approaching my “photo shoot”.  This is after a lot of whining and winding around under my feet.  Since I failed to acknowledge him, it became necessary to move in a little closer.

The head-butt

I’m attempting the photo of the second basket, but it’s impossible to get a picture because A) there is a cat in the way and B) he is giving me the “head-butt” treatment so it is impossible to focus the camera.

Action Jackson

I tossed him to the floor but he must have hit the trampoline, because before I could get a photo HE WAS BAAACK.

Say, what's this?
However, I’m experienced in the art of diversion and found some shreddies for him.  They make a great rustling sound, which always gets his attention, and I can get them to wiggle just a bit which means he has to inspect.

Just plain silly

He’s checking the shreddies to see if they’re tasty.  This photo cracks me up, because he looks like a fat orange Easter bunny – sans the ears.

The trimmed Easter basket

  • Flourish stamp set
  • So Saffron and Bashful Blue card stock; retired Designer Series Papers
  • So Saffron Classic ink pad
  • Designer Button and Pretty in Pink 1/8 taffeta ribbon
  • Oval Scallop Frame and Tasteful Trim XL Bigz dies and the Big Shot
  • Eyelet border punch
  • brads (to attach the handle)

THIS is the project I was trying to photograph.  I apologize for the crimped handle, but as you can imagine, I was happy to get this picture as it was.  The Flourish stamp set is one of the single stamps that were available as a Sale-a-bration option, and you can see it better from the side.  You realize, of course, there isn’t a photo of the side.

And yes, Mr. Maui Stamper and I had a lovely weekend on Lanai celebrating our 30th anniversary, which is actually today.  We stayed at the amazing Lodge at Koele, and did whatever we felt like doing.  Apparently next year we will be expected to take a companion with us.  Oh, as if that would ever happen.

P.S.  Ha!  Just as I was about to click publish, he leaned over and hit the speakerphone button with his chin.  It’s very childish of me, but I always crack up when he does this as the dial tone is loud and he looks around to see who or what did this annoying thing.  Serves him right.  Knucklehead.

Shabby Chic two ways

It’s funny…as much as I’m not a “Brights” kind of person, I’m not really a Shabby Chic girl either.  I like elements of the look, but the rough, unfinished edges look kind of, well, unfinished to me.  I’m an organizer at heart, so unfinished makes me a little uneasy.  Here’s as close as I get to Shabby Chic:

Vintage Bliss

  • Bliss (SAB) stamp set
  • Very Vanilla, Baja Breeze and Rose Red card stock
  • First Edition Specialty and Springtime Vintage Designer Series Papers
  • Baja Breeze and Pear Pizazz Classic ink pads
  • Blender pen and Rose Red Stampin’ Write marker
  • Springtime Vintage Designer Buttons
  • Vintage Lace and Linen Thread
  • Big Shot and Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die
  • Log Cabin Smooch Spritz

The Vintage Suite products from the Occasions mini are a perfect compliment to the Bliss stamp set – and you would love that “Bliss” image if you could see it.    I must have been in la la land when I put that  button on the front of this card!  I made a second card, changed up the colors, and flipped the papers just because I could:

Vintage Newlyweds

I used a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes for this card, and squeezed in the script words from Charming with some Soft Suede ink, but best of all I didn’t cover up the sentiment with the doggone button!  Sometimes I amaze myself.
