MARCH 2024 DIY: TROPICAL LEAF

Tropical Leaf is one of my favorite Online Exclusive products. There’s a stamp & punch bundle, and it’s perfect for any tropical location or plant lover. I’ve been meaning to play with the watercolor effect direct to stamps, and tried it with the leaf. Tell me what you think:

  • Stamps: Tropical Leaf
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Pool Party, Granny Apple Green, Lost Lagoon
  • Accessories: Paper Snips, Stamp n Write Markers, Linen Thread, Water Painters, Spritzer, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Glue dots, DIY Easel Calendar Template

I started playing with ink and the water spritzer on the leaf. You can see in the middle row that I went a little overboard with the water! After some experimenting, I found that using the small Water Painter brush to move the ink a bit on the stamp (after spritzing, before stamping) gave me the result I wanted.

You can also see the difference between inked veins and inked-and-stamped-off veins in the second row.

The punch fits the large leaf in the stamp, and I chose to use the smaller one so I fussy cut the leaves. Look at the difference when you follow the edge into the shape of the leaf!

I used Stamp n Write markers to add a little drizzle to the leaves and the calendar page – Lost Lagoon for the leaves and Pool Party for the calendar. I tucked a few unthreaded strands of Linen Thread behind the leaves with a Glue Dot to evoke roots.

Take a moment to visit Cheryl and Crystal for their March calendars. We have such a good time putting these together (although occasionally there’s a moment of panic when you get that email that says “here’s my link” and you look at the calendar!!!) If you need a DIY template, they’re just $5. Send me a message and tell me you’d like an invoice and I’ll get it to you as quickly as I can.

A stamp set for all seasons

Have you seen the new Thoughtful Branches stamp set?

Maui Stamper Thoughtful Branches Hydrangea Watercolor

It’s a limited time offer from Stampin’ Up! available through August 31, 2016.  I’m finding it extremely versatile with sentiments that cover all the basics and images that are adaptable throughout the year.

Maui Stamper Thoughtful Branches-Beautiful Branches Bundle from Stampin' Up!

The combination of trees, leaves, stems and foliage is perfect for summer and will take you through the seasons.  For my hydrangea card, I created a soft watercolor wash with Marina Mist on watercolor paper for the background and then stamped my blossoms in the same color on a Whisper White panel.

The stem was cut from a Whisper White panel and daubered (lol, my spell-check says that isn’t a word – we know better!) with Sahara Sand.  The band across the bottom is also Sahara Sand, and there’s a Wink of Stella tucked into the blooms.

The Big Shot makes quick work of cutting these intricate images, but you will definitely want a Precision Base Plate and the Big Shot Die Brush for this one.

The stamps, thinlits and bundle are available through August 31st, although Stampin’ Up! is always careful to add those 3 terrifying little words “while supplies last”.  If you love this one, don’t wait!  Shop HERE.

I’m gonna miss this sweet little bird

I have a bit of a thing for birds.  It’s taken me a while to learn the ones that frequent my back yard, but I’ve made good if not perfect progress.  I love to hear them when I wake up in the morning.

Maui Stamper An Open Heart Thanks

I watercolored this fellow using my Aquapainter and watercolor paper.  He doesn’t look like any bird I’ve seen, he just makes me happy the way he is.

The Greetings Thinlit has sold out but last time I checked the rest of these beautiful supplies were available.  You can shop HERE.

Beautiful Ride

Did you ever count VW Beetles on road trips?  Scour the highway so you could be the first to spot one and earn the dubious right to slug your fellow passenger?  Wish you could be lucky enough to ever own one?

Some cars seem to evoke more powerful memories than others.  As a kid, I used to count them, but it was my kids who played the “Punch Buggy” game until either someone was in tears or I was hollering or both.

You can see I have mad water coloring skills – ha!  It’s fun and I’ve learned to Let It Be (cue the Beatles.  See what I did there?).

I’ve added links to Stampin’ Up! products right in the card “recipe”.  Let me know what you think!  Of course, you can always just shop HERE.  And while you’re at it, cruise through the Sale-a-bration options…because everybody loves FREE.
