Hot Off the Press: STAMPIN’ UP! 2013 COLOR REFRESH!

Yes, my friends, it’s true: with the new 2013-2014 catalog, Stampin’ Up! will refresh the four color families! Never fear, there are familiar names here, and Stampin’ Up! will continue to provide outstanding coordination between ink, paper and embellishment.

But you want details, I know!

With one exception, the “new” colors are familiar – they are In Colors from years past. The exception is what promises to be a delicious new shade of grey called Smoky Slate!

I’m personally thrilled with these changes – the colors that are retiring are colors I have seldom used – with the notable exception of Baja Breeze. The In Colors from years past that are becoming permanent include some of my absolute favorites – Pear Pizazz, Soft Sky, and the recent 2011-2013 colors of Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder (yay!), Pool Party (double yay!) and Island Indigo.

Some remaining colors have changed color families – see if you can spot them!

The Wonder of Wisteria

Wisteria Wonder was the first 2011-2012 In Color selection featured in my Getting to Know the In Colors class series. I had one of those happy moments when I held it up and everyone ooohed and aahhhed:

It’s a very simple card, but I love the combination of colors, and I love that Just Believe stamp set. Someone in class asked if that was an “old” stamp set – it was brand new LAST year! It doesn’t seem old to me, because I always find new ways to use the images in the set.

The main image in this card is inked with Crumb Cake ink, and the ink is removed from the flower portions of the image with a Blender Pen. We used the Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Write marker to add color back to the flowers, and then used the flat edge of the Concord Crush marker to accent the centers of the flowers before we stamped the image.

I’ve seen many cards using Wisteria Wonder and neutrals. That seems to be a really popular pairing, especially Wisteria Wonder and Crumb Cake. (hijack: I know Stampin’ Up! likes colors to have two-word, alliterative names, but really, what was wrong with Kraft??) I like that look myself, but enough is enough. We did some projects with other color combinations too. (stay tuned)

Exploring Wisteria Wonder

How can you not love a color with Wisteria in its name?

Wisteria Wonder fills a real gap in the Stampin’ Up! color palette, and I know I’m not the only person who is happy about that. I wanted to explore how each of the 2011-2013 In Colors coordinate with the Stampin’ Up! color families, so I came up with a set of classes that will explore each of the colors in turn. Guess which one will be first?

This first class will be Wednesday, August 10 and will feature this note card set (made with the Easy Events stamp set) and two other projects. Cost is $10, and you can RSVP at my Online Store.
