SURFING SANTA

This Jolly Old Elf was at the top of my mini catalog list, but I’m a traditionalist and don’t like to dive into Christmas too early. Crafting is different, though: there’s a lot to do before December 25th.

The first time I stamped and colored this image, I fussy cut it. Normally that makes me really happy, but somehow Santa got lost without a spotlight. I did cut the tops of the waves, but it barely qualifies as fussy cutting. I stamped them 3 times across on the Nests of Winter DSP – I love the result when you stamp tone-on-tone on top of DSP!

SPOTLIGHT ON NATURE: WHITE EMBOSSING

One of the Maui Stamper team members shared this technique with me, and I was smitten. It’s simple to do and I love the pop of color it gives on top of Crumb Cake card stock! Thanks, Brigid. 💕

  • Stamps: Spotlight on Nature, Changing Leaves
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Berry Burst
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Greetings of the Season dies, Deckle Rectangles dies, Exposed Brick Embossing Folder, White Embossing Powder, Embossing Buddy and Tray, Heat Tool, White Craft Ink, Stampin’ Write Markers, paintbrush, dauber, Linen Thread, Purple Fine Shimmer Gems, Stampin’ Dimensionals

There’s a lot going on here, but none of it is hard. I embossed the Spotlight on Nature flower on Crumb Cake card stock with White Craft Ink and White Embossing Powder. To get the color to pop, I used a small brush to paint inside the flowers and leaves with White Craft Ink (I didn’t dilute it). Once that dried completely, I colored on top of the White Craft Ink with Stampin’ Write markers.

I am also quite smitten (it’s an excellent word, try it) with the Greetings of the Season dies. They have a little hole in the die so you can tie on your thread or ribbon. I love how clean that little hole is!!

SEASON OF GREEN AND GOLD BOOK TREAT BOX

I’m finally feeling a little bit of Christmas! This Book Treat Box was a lot of fun to cover and embellish. Without “littles” in my house or my neighborhood, Halloween doesn’t get the attention it used to – but I confess that I filled the box with Halloween candy!

  • Stamps: Greetings of the Season
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Old Olive, Garden Green

I placed the sentiment focal point on the top of the box so that it could make a “keeper” for this little tab. The tab has adhesive on it, but you would have to tear the box open to get inside. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals on either end of the focal point to leave room for the tab.

Inside the box I layered a little sparkle. If you’re like me, the hardest part of something like this is figuring out which panel is on the inside and which panel is on the outside. I played around with it until I was certain, then made tiny little pencil marks on the panels that I wanted to embellish with DSP.

These adorable boxes are currently out of stock, but they’re expected back in the week of November 4. Keep an eye on the Online Store and get yours before they sell out again!

WINTERLY TREE TOPS WREATH

Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper is a great way to step up a card with a minimum of effort and bulk. Today’s Winterly Tree Tops card uses both the Country Woods (all time fave!) and Nature’s Sweetness DSP options to set the stage for a holiday card.

That beautiful red filigree is from Regal Flora, and I cut it in half so it would reach from side to side on the card front. It’s a nice alternative to ribbon when you’re looking for a way to tie together two parts of a card.

The Spotlight on Nature dies pair very well with the Deckled Circle dies to create a layer that makes you think wreath but allows that beautiful greenery at the top to take center stage.

WINTERLY BIRDS IN THE TREETOPS

If you’ve followed me for very long, you’ll know I love my birdies. These two are quite the Winterly pair: they look as though they’re having a little spat. But they’re doing a good job of looking good while they do!

I used the grid from Spotlight on Nature to add some texture behind the pair. Texture is one of my favorite simple add-ons. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it doesn’t add any volume to the card. I took my coloring cues from that gorgeous Winter Meadow DSP, and I slipped in the Summer Splash ribbon even though it’s nit technically in the paper. I think it works!

WALK IN THE FOREST TRIFOLD v2

I loved this layout so much I made quite a few versions. The fun thing about this one is that it uses the same Walk in the Forest Designer Series Paper as the one I shared on November 15 but the color palette is quite different.

  • Stamps: Merriest Trees
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Pretty Peacock
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Basics 3D Embossing Folder, Walk in the Forest Designer Series Paper, Heat Tool, White Craft Ink, White Embossing Powder, Tear’n’Tape (aka TNT)

This is such a quick card because of the way the pieces are cut. Check the Walk in the Forest Triple Fold post for dimensions – you still have time to create a stack of these!

If I were making this again, I would heat emboss the sentiment on the front panel and skip the little snowflakes. Then I could use the panel on the back for a quick message. You could also use the back of the white base panel to write a longer message, or even adhere a printed message if that’s how you roll!

Using Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper for this card takes all the guess-work out of matching. Selections from the September – December mini catalog are quickly selling out, so you’d best be quick to stock up! If you’re like me, even if you miss out on this one, you have a leeeetle stash of holiday papers in your craft room, and surely something will do the jobl

BRUSHED GOLD CARDS & ENVELOPES

The Brushed Gold Cards & Envelopes are absolutely stunning, and they don’t get enough love! I used them for a project for my clubs and ended up with a half-dozen left over, so expect to see more inspiration in the weeks ahead. Here’s what we did in club:

The Christmas Classics dies have gorgeous 2-part sentiment panels. I had put the detailed mat panel directly on the card front, then added the Joy of Noel DSP circle on dimensionals. The sentiment panel is adhered on one side directly to the circle and has dimensionals to support the opposite end.

Just look at that shimmer – front and back! These cards will be perfect for special occasions beyond the holidays, so watch for their return and add them to your stash.

Walk in the Forest Triple Fold

One of the very best things about Stampin’ Up! events is swapping with other demonstrators. I came home from Backstage in August with stacks of great cards, but this design stood out. I switched it up with the Walk in the Forest Designer Series paper and loved the result:

  • Stamps: Joy of Noel
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Pretty Peacock, Memento Black
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Merry Melody Embossing Folder, Walk in the Forest DSP, Stampin’ Blends

Pat Ertman shared a beautiful card with this tri-fold design, and I had a lot of fun with it. Pat’s design uses strips of DSP that are 4″ tall, so it makes great use of the paper. You can use scraps, or you can cut the 12″ paper into the widths you need and then snip into 4″ lengths.

The first piece of DSP is 3/4″ wide, the second two are 1 3/4″ wide, and the final piece is 2 3/4″ wide. The white folding panel is 4 1/4″ tall and 9″ wide, scored at 1″, 2″, 4″ and 6″. The white base is 4 1/4″ and the Cherry Cobbler embossed panel is 4″ x 5 1/4″.

I love this image from the Joy of Noel stamps. I used it for my November DIY Calendar, and I’ll use it again! Joy of Noel and Walk in the Forest are on the Last Chance list, so shop the Online Store soon!

ABUNDANT BEAUTY SNOWFLAKES

The Abundant Beauty masks include not just fabulous florals, but houndstooth, autumn leaves, and snowflakes. I used the snowflakes mask to create my own version of DSP. I know you’ll be shocked to see I’ve used Pool Party, Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock 😆

Have you followed my Facebook Page? If you have, you might have encountered a LIVE demonstrating the process for making this card. It was a rough day on the interwebs, and after multiple attempts I gave up and just posted a video from my phone. Not my best work, but you’ll get the idea!

To get this layered effect, all you need to do is reposition the mask before you add a new color. Once you have the look that makes you happy (and my friends, card making is ALL about making ourselves happy!!!) just add a little ribbon and a sentiment and you’re done.

This gnome is so kind and gentle that I thought he would make a perfect companion for December. In a month when it’s easy to get lost in Things To Do and Places To Go, holding out a light to help someone find their way seems like a perfect message for this month.

It was a happy accident when I realized the images from Peaceful Deer were in perfect scale to use with Kindest Gnomes. The result is a Winter Wonderland feeling, and though it doesn’t really represent living on an island in the middle of the Pacific, it does represent my desire to slow down when things get overwhelming.

I colored the gnome’s beard and used the Color Lifter to create a softer (dare I say gentler?) beard. The light in his lantern is layered so it seems to glow. And when I colored the bunny I left a white patch on the chest and of course the cottontail!

(HINT: The Gnomes BUNDLE is retiring, but the dies will carry over into the spring. That means the Gnome stamps are retiring but there just might be a new coordinating set of stamps in January. Get the bundle and save. IYKYK.)
