Washi for the College Man

My son had to admit that Washi could be useful:

Maui Stamper Washi Tape Custom Cables The black diagonal Washi from the Epic Day This n That suite was the only one he considered acceptable, but he agreed that identifying his cables made sense.

Maui Stamper Washi Tape Custom CablesHe has a LOT of cables.  Apple cables.

Saving My Convention Memories

My Paper Pumpkin for May pushed me to work outside the box:

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookBefore you ask, that little tile in the corner was a swap and I LOVED it!!

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookThis My Paper Pumpkin kit from May has sat on my stamp desk for a while as I decided what to do with it.  In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t do a lot of scrapbooking.  I have a really hard time choosing the photos – I think that’s what gets in my way.  I really wanted to use this kit, but it took Convention to get me in the groove.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookI’m gonna show you ALL the pages, but I’m not going into details on every product I used.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookThe My Paper Pumpkin kit included front and back covers, 6 pieces of DSP (6×6), 5 pre-cut DSP pages to fit the covers, 6 pages of self-adhesive embellishments, and a bag with 2 buttons and 2 arrow-shaped clip embellishments.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookI needed MORE pages!!  I added card stock pages and pulled out a heap of stamps.  I also added mementos I collected at Convention.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookSometimes I journaled on the self-adhesive embellishments, and sometimes I wrote directly on the page.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookThat picture of Crystal in her Pineapple Sunglasses is my absolute FAVE.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookAussie Aussie Aussie!! Oi Oi Oi!!  Wouldn’t you know it, we sat next to 3 demonstrators from Queensland, Australia for the opening General Session.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookWe really enjoyed meeting Stampin’ Up! staff, but Kathy Pitt (You Crew:  Meet with an Illustrator) and Sara Brook-Humphrey (the My Paper Pumpkin girl – working in the Social Media booth) were special highlights.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookI am so proud of my PINEAPPLE!

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookI’m also proud to have been part of the Guinness World Record for most greeting cards sent from a single location at one time.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookSwaps!!!  Need I say more?

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookIf you don’t follow Erica Cerwin’s blog Pink Buckaroo, take a look HERE for more details on her INCREDIBLE Paper Camper.  I was speechless.

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookClasses at convention are always outstanding.  The class I enjoyed more this year was Carrie Cudney’s class “Living a Creative Life”.  She had great quotes, great projects, and a great ice-breaker:  We threw rolls of TP around the room!!

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookWe wore those ridiculous Pineapple Sunglasses for 3 solid days.  By Saturday afternoon my eyes were fatigued from looking through that cheapo plastic.  We sure had fun with them!

Maui Stamper My Paper Pumpkin May 2013 Handmade ScrapbookBig Screen Photos…

I used Tombo (the Wonder Adhesive) to adhere DSP to the front and back sides of the covers, then used a little Washi to dress up the edges.  All the holes were pre-punched.  Still, to be completely honest, this was NOT a 30 minute project.  I think I spent a couple of afternoons on it – but I did more than double the pages.  Here’s the kit:

Swaps from the Maui Stampers

Today I’m pleased to share the talents of the Maui Stampers:

Maui Stamper handmade card Magnificent MapleCheryl used Sweater Weather DSP and the Magnificent Maple and Tags 4 You bundle for her card.

Maui Stamper handmade card Happy DayI love the pop of Coastal Cabana with the Modern Medley DSP!  Stephanie used stamps from Happy Day and Express Yourself (hostess).

Maui Stamper handmade card Toil and Trouble DSPRobbie made these gorgeous Halloween Treats inspired by Pam Morgan’s stamping demonstration at convention.

Maui Stamper handmade card Toil and Trouble DSPTake a 6″ x 6″ square of DSP, run a line of Sticky Strip along one edge, and make a cone.  You can see how the flap on the  cone is tucked in at the top.

Maui Stamper handmade card Toil and Trouble DSPDon’t you love how Robbie used a smidge of gold embossing powder on that Vintage Button?

Maui Stamper handmade card Secret Garden FramelitsRamona cut the Natural Composition Specialty paper with the Secret Garden Framelits and then used the Woodgrain TIEF to tie the elements of her card together.

Maui Stamper handmade card Kind & CozyCheryl (two Cheryls!!) used the Kind & Cozy stamp set for this cheery card.  This is a “you made my day” kind of card!  She used a Pool Party panel behind a 3 3/4″ x 5″ note card to create extra interest.

Maui Stamper handmade card Kind & CozyLots of creative inspiration here – enjoy!

Easy Custom Gift Bags

LOVE these muslin gift bags from the Holiday catalog!

Maui Stamper Handmade Gift Packaging Too Kind

  • Muslin Gift Bags (Holiday catalog)
  • Too Kind and Yippee Skippee stamp sets
  • Primrose Petals, Old Olive and Raspberry Ripple FFIP
  • Primrose Petals Stitched Ribbon
  • Clothespin (Tag a Bag Accessory kit)
  • Rhinestone jewel

Lazy girl that I am, I cut a piece of ribbon and just clipped it on with the clothespin from the Tag a Bag accessory kit.  That little rhinestone is a leftover from…something.  A kit, the name of which I cannot remember or find.  But you could take a plain rhinestone jewel and color it with a Sharpie® marker and get the same result.

Maui Stamper Handmade Gift Packaging Too KindHere’s what I did to stamp the bags:

  1. I opened the package of bags and took them out.
  2. I stamped them.

THAT’S IT.  I did NOT wash, fold, dry, iron or otherwise pay any attention to these bags.  I used Stampin’ Up! Classic Ink.  It dried to the touch but I noticed that as I stuffed the bags the ink would transfer to my hands, so I recommend allowing them to dry overnight before gifting them – there was no ink transfer the next day for me.  I stamped 4 different times – the 2-step flower image in Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple, the stem in Old Olive, and the sentiment in Raspberry Ripple – and didn’t have any problems with smearing.

Maui Stamper Handmade Gift Packaging Too KindI made a bunch of these for my Hostess Club members.  They’re filled with a cute stamp and some Trader Joe’s Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels (I think I’m happy that TJ’s isn’t in Hawaii because these would become an ISSUE for me).  These bags are a perfect last-minute-gift solution!  I’ve got a stash on hand and I think you should too 🙂

What could be better? Best of Shelli

RemARKably, it’s the third Sunday and time for a Best of Blog Tour. The featured set for July is Best of Shelli – you DO know who Shelli is, don’t you?

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour

  • Best of Shelli 25th Anniversary, Affection Collection and Express Yourself (hostess) stamp sets
  • Very Vanilla, Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral and Baked Brown Sugar card stock
  • Crisp Cantaloupe and Baked Brown Sugar FFIP
  • Big Shot and Hearts A-Flutter Framelits
  • Artisan Punch
  • Natural Trim Ribbon
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals

Each of these images really does say “Shelli Gardner” in my mind. I had a good time stretching my usual sense of style to play with the textures available with these varied images, and of course once you start cutting out flags it’s really hard to stop 🙂

BoShelli10I have a soft spot for typewriters – I’ve got my grandfather’s old Royal in its traveling case. He used to take it on the train every day from Redwood City to San Francisco as a VP for Pacific Far East Line. I vividly remember riding with my grandmother late summer afternoons to the train station to wait for Gramps to get home.

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour 25th Anniversary

  • Best of Shelli 25th Anniversary and Trust God stamp sets
  • Whisper White Craft Ink and Pistachio Pudding and Soft Suede FFIP
  • Whisper White and Pistachio Pudding card stock
  • Big Shot and Circle Thinlets Flip Card die
  • 1 3/4″ Circle punch
  • Bitty punch pack
  • Pearl Jewels
  • Tea Lace Doily

This has a TOTALLY different feeling, doesn’t it? If you look closely you’ll see I didn’t bother to align these images perfectly – no Stamp-a-ma-jig this time! I was feeling terribly cavalier and did some “eyeball inking” – imagine that!!

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour 25th AnniversaryThis looks straight onto the Flip Circle portion of the card – you can see how everything is lined up. I trimmed a smidge off the Tea Party doily so that it would fit around the curve created by the thinlet.

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour 25th AnniversaryHere’s my trick for that two-tone effect. I ran a piece of Whisper White card stock through with the thinlet, overlapping just the last scoring bar. It was easy to line up that folded line on my Stampin’ Trimmer and take the flap off so that I could adhere the back panel to the card base.

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour 25th AnniversaryHere’s what it looks like flattened out from the front – well, it’s the front of the card and the front of the second page, and the back of the Circle Flip – if you can follow my fronts and backs!

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour 25th AnniversaryHere’s what it looks like if you flip the “flattened out front” card onto the reverse side.

Maui Stamper RemARKable Best of Shelli Blog Tour 25th AnniversaryOne more angle for you to see! Although it appears that the front panel is NOT Pistachio Pudding, I assure you that it is. This Thinlet is really fun to play with!

Your next stop, as always, is the Trinity Design Studio – be sure and leave Robin a comment to tell her how much you love her work!

Ink and Painters’ Tape

Who knew this was SO EASY?

Maui Stamper handmade card Masking Tape Summer Silhouettes

  • Summer Silhouettes and Simply Sketched (hostess) stamp sets
  • Crisp Cantaloupe, Baked Brown Sugar and Very Vanilla card stock
  • Crisp Cantaloupe, Baked Brown Sugar, Soft Suede and Calypso Coral FFIP
  • Painters Tape

I didn’t say it was NEAT.  I said it was easy.  We did this card at Hostess Club and I brought out the box o’ Costco Disposable Gloves.  Cuz a lot of my stampers have gorgeous manicures (not moi).

5 Steps:

  1. Put on gloves
  2. Rip off a piece of tape
  3. Press the tape onto the FFIP (sticky side down)
  4. Press the tape onto the card stock
  5. Peel it off

Maui Stamper handmade card Masking Tape Summer SilhouettesAnd don’t you think Crisp Cantaloupe, Baked Brown Sugar and Very Vanilla belong together?  If you figure that one out, could you please bring some to me?

Maui Stamper Over the Top Tags Convention Swap handmade tag Dress Up FramelitsLove that glimmer paper – I haven’t used it much lately, but Sparkle Season is coming!!

Stampin’ with the Maui Stampers!

Maui Stampers is my blog, and it’s also my Stampin’ Up! group name!

Crystal and I came back from convention loaded with ideas, inspiration and most of all, SWAPS!  We wanted to share as much as we could, as quickly as we could, with the  Maui Stampers who were unable to make the trip to Salt Lake.  We put together a wild and crazy Stamp-a-palooza.  I’ve shared a few of the projects but there are just too many to keep posting one at a time, and they’re all pretty simple since we were in production mode.  Here are the rest, in no particular order:

Maui Stamper Handmade card Zoo BabiesI’m just giving quickie info on these – this one is Zoo Babies in Gumball Green, Calypso Coral and Coastal Cabana, with a bit of Epic Day Washi Tape along the back.

Maui Stamper Handmade Card Toil and TroubleThis is Toil and Trouble with Teeny Tiny Wishes – it’s hard to see, but the black card base is embossed with the Stripes Embossing folder.  That Vintage Button is filled with Black Glitter from the Holiday catalog and I am telling you, that stuff is GLITTERY!!!  Mr. Maui Stamper woulda had a fit if I’d brought this out at home, but we were Some Where Else.  Thank goodness.

Maui Stamper Handmade Card You're My HeroI am IN LOVE with You’re My Hero!  It’s not just for kids, either – I have some things to share in another week or so that I think you’re gonna love.

Maui Stamper Handmade card Simply Sketched SympathySimply Sketched is a hostess set, and I think it’s a bit of a sleeper.  The images are beautiful line art and the sentiments are things you need.  I chose Pear Pizazz and Baked Brown Sugar for this sympathy card.

Maui Stamper handmade card Gorgeous GrungeGorgeous Grunge is another catalog sleeper – and it is SO MUCH FUN!!  Just slap on that ink, baby!!  There’s a little Witches Brew Washi on this card – Washi is translucent so you can get extra dimension by layering it over a stamped image.  The greeting is Label Love – don’t miss the savings on that bundle!  And yes, I hand-cut the sentiment to layer it.  It’s not that hard 🙂

Maui Stamper Handmade Card Too Kind Tags 4 YouThis last card uses Too Kind, one of the first sets I purchased from the new catalog.  I’ve used it for so many things – those big, free form flowers are so versatile and easy to stamp.  I do NOT use the Stamp-a-ma-jig on them, much as I love it – these are just Bash and Stamp images!  Love that new Tags 4 You set in the Holiday catalog – you’ll see more of that, too.  Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe are the perfect tone-on-tone combo.

And just for fun, here we are:

Maui Stampers TeamStampers and guests!  These are brave women – it was a little bit touch-and-go as Ms. Hurricane Flossie tried to rain on our parade.  But neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.  Or stamping.

Tag – You’re RemARKably IT!!

Just cause it’s called “Tag It” doesn’t mean you can’t use it on a card!

MauiStamper Tag It Handmade Card RemARKable Blog TourI took a page right out of Pam Morgan’s stamping demonstration at convention and just used the image – no coordinating framelit – to keep it simple.  The images in this set are VERY versatile – it’s awesome if you have the framelits, but you DON’T HAVE TO HAVE THEM to use the set.   (I KNOW.  What a SHOCK.)

I inked the image twice – once with Gumball Green (my new fave green) and once with  Primrose Petals.  I cut the Primrose Petals image up to get the “Celebrate” flag and the accent balloon, then added the Summer Starfruit Dahlia with a glue dot.

MauiStamper Tag It Handmade Card RemARKable Blog TourThat eyeball is begging for embellishment but I held back.  Make a note – that doesn’t happen often with me.

Of course, the stamp set is called TAG It.  In my book that mean’s it’s just begging to be a tag, and while I was at it I tossed in the coordinating Chalk Talk Framelits for good measure (you knew I had them – when I said you didn’t need them I meant it in the most hypothetical sense.  Of course you need them.)

MauiStamper Tag It Handmade Tag RemARKable Blog TourThis little tag just makes me happy.  Same color scheme with a little bit of Soft Suede, cuz now we’re talkin’ dirt.  And take a closer look at the pearls in the middle of the flowers:

MauiStamper Tag It Handmade Tag RemARKable Blog TourYellow Sharpie Marker to the rescue!  Had to be done.

I used the negative of the Chalk Talk Framelit to create an opening in this tag.  If you jumped on the Magnetic Cutting Pad bandwagon before we sold 13 weeks of inventory in 3 weeks (Yes Ma’am!!) it will be a snap to get that tag image cut squarely in the center of the Gumball Green tag.  (If you didn’t jump on the bandwagon, don’t worry, they are coming – you just have to be patient.  I’m not good at that.)

Layer a piece of Very Vanilla card stock behind with some dimensionals to keep it floating and you’re good to go:

Burlap texture

Have you gotten your hands on the gorgeous burlap ribbon in the Holiday catalog?

Maui Stamper HandmadeCard Flower Shop Chevron

  • Flower Shop, Oh Hello and Chevron Background stamps
  • Very Vanilla and Baked Brown Sugar card stock
  • Primrose Petals, Daffodil Delight and Baked Brown Sugar FFIP
  • Bitty Circle and Pansy Punches
  • Big Shot and Ovals Collection Framelits
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Pearl Jewels
  • Mini Glue Dots

The Flower Shop stamp set has one Pansy shape in 6 different textures – this one is burlap!  It’s a little thing, but it matters to me.

The little yellow centers in the flower are applied with Mini Glue Dots.  They give more lift than Tombo, less lift than Stampin’ Dimensionals, and fit better behind the small circles than a dimensional would.  Another little thing…

Did you see my un-tutorial on using the Pansy Punch?  Check HERE to simplify your life 🙂

This is a very quick card and it is USPS friendly!!  It would be easy to switch that sentiment out to suit your need.  I often make cards like this without the sentiment inked in.  Having them on hand gives me an instant custom card when the moment strikes.

Stop by on Sunday for another RemARKable Stamp of the Month tour!
