Just one snowflake

This is as close to snow as I’m going to see this winter:

Maui Stamper December 2014 DIY Easel Calendar

  • Stamps:  Festive Flurry
  • Color Palette:  Pool Party, Bermuda Bay
  • Accessories:  Festive Flurry Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Rhinestone Jewels

Not that I’m really complaining.  Although if I wanted to complain, I would grumble about the fact that Stampin’ Up! retired Festive Flurry and the coordinating framelits after only one year.  They’re so beautiful!  But I’m not in charge of that, and I have no desire to have that responsibility either.

Maui Stamper December 2014 DIY Easel CalendarI used my snips to trim the interior image a couple of times so that I could layer on the color.  I don’t mind cutting straight lines at all.

Take a look and see what Cheryl and Crystal have done with their calendars this month.  And if you get more snow than this, I hope it’s all this beautiful!

Remembering to be Thankful

I work at having an “attitude of gratitude” all year long, and in November I give myself a little extra reminder:

Maui Stamper November 2014 DIY Easel Calendar

  • Stamps:  Thankful For (retired), Wetlands, Gorgeous Grunge
  • Color Palette:  Old Olive, Crushed Curry, Baked Brown Sugar

Maui Stamper November 2014 DIY Easel CalendarCan I just say that if you are one of the 4 people left who don’t own Gorgeous Grunge that you need to fix that problem?  It is absolutely indispensable.

I used my Stampin’ Write markers to create the variegated color on the stems.  They aren’t weeds…just in case you were wondering.

Fall Colors in the Flower Shop

This year for my October Easel Calendar I decided to take a break from Halloween:

Maui Stamper October 2014 DIY Easel CalendarI mean, Halloween is a lot of fun – and it’s a Really Big Deal in Hawaii – but I just couldn’t bring myself to look at spiders all month.  Can you relate to that?

  • Stamps:  Flower Shop
  • Color Palette:  Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango, Cherry Cobbler
  • Accessories:  Pansy punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Crystal Effects

Maui Stamper October 2014 DIY Easel CalendarWhen I first order Flower Shop (AND the Pansy punch, of course – this kind of thing goes without saying) I discovered that Stampin’ Up! had pulled a bit of a fast one on us.  The flower – and the punched image – are NOT symmetrical.  You can’t just stamp that flower and punch it out any ol’ which-a-way.  I developed a solution and posted a mini-tutorial: you can check it out HERE.

Today is also DAY 1 of  Stamp, Stock and Save.   Card stock, ink, adhesive and envelopes are discounted 15%, and a select group of stamps has 20% savings.  This deal lasts only until October 6, so don’t miss it!  Get all the details HERE.

Welcome to my Zoo

September…it used to be all about back-to-school, but most Maui Scholars have been in the classroom for a month already!

Maui Stamper September 2014 DIY Easel Calendar I’ll confess that the phrase “what a zoo” entered my mind when I thought about back-to-school.  You’ll never see these 3 characters in a zoo!

  • Stamp set:  Zoo Babies
  • Color Palette:  Rich Razzleberry, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive

Did you notice the banner across the top?  I did something I’ve never attempted before…I doodled it.

August 2014 DIY Easel Calendar: For the Birds

It’s summer, glorious summer!  Here’s my August 2014 Easel Calendar page:

Maui Stamper 2014 August DIY Easel Calendar For the Birds I’m so glad For the Birds carried over into the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog.  I love these whimsical little images!!  And if you’ve got a sharp eye, you’ll realize I’ve colored this with my Blendabilities.  They are my absolute go-to choice for coloring!

Bloomin’ June

Although parts of the country were extremely dry this year, we had more rain than usual on the Valley Isle.  As a result, it seems that anything that could bloom is blooming.  That includes my June calendar:

Maui Stamper 2014 DIY Easel Calendar JuneI’ve been slightly obsessed with birds recently.  This one is looking for a little snack beneath the flower bed.

Maui Stamper 2014 DIY Easel Calendar JuneI used Petite Petals and Everything Eleanor for this calendar page, and did a little bit of masking to create some dimension amongst the flowers.  These calendars are fun precisely because the area to embellish is small, and it’s more of a challenge than you might think to get the image balance right.  A little sparkle makes it all work out…

Maui Stamper 2014 DIY Easel Calendar JuneYou may be wondering where I’ve been…it’s been a while since I’ve posted.  My family is literally spread across the world from Western Australia to Boston, Massachusetts.  Mr. Maui Stamper and I  got it into our heads that we should have a reunion, and that a nice middle spot would be in England.  We had a fabulous time with the family, including loads of sight-seeing, great food, and of course photos.  My son was tremendously amused when I tried to take a selfie with the Tower Bridge in the background, and once he started taking pictures of me taking pictures of myself…well, it was pretty hopeless:

Maui Stamper Tower Bridge Selfies

At least I ended up with a photo – or three – of myself with the Tower Bridge in the background.

There are three of us posting these little calendar pages today – take a look and see what Cheryl and Crystal have done with their calendars this month.  I’m pretty sure they’re not posting selfies.

Shorebirds

I’m going to be very happy every morning in May to walk into my kitchen and see this month’s little Easel Calendar:

Maui Stamper 2014 Easel Calendar May ShorebirdsI love this Wetlands stamp set, especially these little shorebirds.  I used my Aquapainter to add a little Basic Gray around the waterline.  I sponged a little crumb cake below and Pool Party above that line to create a sense of the sand and the sea.  The sun is the circle that was in the middle of one the Daydream Medallians stamps – I have a DVD case for all the funny bits that I think would make interesting stamps.

Take just another minute to pop on over and see what Crystal and Cheryl have done for their calendars this month.  We hope you’re inspired!

Walkin’ on the beach…

Happy April Fool’s Day!  No foolin’ here today…just an April walk on the beach:

Maui Stamper April 2014 Easel Calendar

Have I mentioned how much I love making these simple little calendar pages?  There isn’t a lot of fanfare, and the embellishment is minimal if there at all.   It’s just the dates and a suggestion of a theme for the month.

  • Stamps:  By the Seashore and Gorgeous Grunge
  • Color Palette:  Whisper White, Pool Party and Crumb Cake

This soothing page will remind me to get out the door and take my beach walk every morning…not that I need a lot of encouragement.  It’s one of my favorite indulgences and it’s something I never take for granted.

The Maui Stampers run an itty-bitty blog tour the first of the month.  I hope you’ll spend a little time April-foolin’ around and check out what Crystal and Cheryl have done for their calendars this month.  Thanks for stopping by!

A new year, a new calendar

There’s something refreshing about turning the calendar page, and the most exciting turn of all is from December to January.  Good morning, 2014!

Maui Stamper 2014 Easel Calendar January How better to start the year than with one of my favorite Stampin’ Up! color combinations – Pool Party and Island Indigo?  We’ve actually had a bit of rain here on the dry side of the island, and it’s always a sign of blessing and a cause for celebration. These beautiful drops from the My Friend stamp set are just right to start the year, especially with some sparkle.   I’m big on dreams and goals, and appreciate a little reminder to keep it positive sitting on my desktop.

This year my first-of-the-month Calendar post will be a Triple Treat – Crystal and Cheryl are posting calendars too!  Take a look at their projects for a little more inspiration.  If you’d like to create your own calendar, I have DIY calendar kits available.  They’re $8 with the easel, $5 without (plus shipping) and you can find more details HERE.

Maui Stamper DIY Calendar Kit $8I’ve been doing a lot of reflection as January first has approached, looking ahead to a new year.  In my quest for inspiration I came across the Vivid and Brave website – and a list of journaling prompts for 2014.  What a find!!!  One of the prompts is Clearing the Clutter – and as a self-confessed pack-rat, I had already identified this as one of my highest priorities for 2014.  However, the one that really started me thinking was What word or phrase will you eliminate from your vocabulary this year? So many directions to take that…my mind is spinning with the possibilities.

Thank you for reading The Maui Stamper – it humbles me to think that you’re taking time out of your day to see what I’m up to.  Whatever your plans for 2014 might be, I wish you comfort and contentment.
