Tags are the new cookies

Hear me out now, before you start shouting at me! I love cookies as much as the next girl but this time of year they seem to be lurking around every corner, and it gets dangerous. One of my host clubs exchanged tags every year instead, and it’s such fun!

  • Stamps: #Elfie
  • Color Palette, Whisper White, Basic Black, Real Red, Shaded Spruce, Daffodil Delight, soft Suede, Ivory Seaside Spray, Rococco Rose
  • Accessories: Stampin’ Blends, Snowfall Puff Paint, Heat Tool, Wink of Stella

The puff paint is amazing! It’s a quick way to add some fun texture. Be sure to let it puff up all the way, and then I find it’s more durable if you let it sit for half an hour or so before touching or stacking it. I make it the last step and then set the tags aside to “cure”. Watch this video for more: https://s.tamp.in/yo-AGL

A dozen of these went together really quickly – but you need to enjoy coloring. I didn’t do any shadowing because it’s such a small image.

To create a little blush in #Elfie’s cheeks, I dabbed a dot of Rococco Rose Blends and then blurred it with the color lifter. Do this BEFORE you add the skin tone (I used ivory) or you’ll see a funny circle.

Make a tag, swap a tag! There’s still time!

When you need a Tag: Day Seven

These are my favorites. (Well, maybe they’re tied with the tag I’ll share tomorrow.) I love these Cookie Cutter Christmas Characters! They are absolutely perfect for tags, and I am happy as can be that they are back for 2017. Stampin’ Blends make coloring these a complete delight.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Cookie Cutter Christmas

  • Stamps: Cookie Cutter Christmas, Seasonal Chums (To/From)
  • Color Palette: Crumb Cake, Memento Black, Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler, Smoky Slate, Blushing Bride, Tempting Turquoise
  • Accessories: Angled Tag Topper Punch, Cookie Cutter Builder Punch, Stampin’ Blends, Washi Basics Pack 3, Candy Cane Washi, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Cookie Cutter Christmas

I’ve always used Crumb Cake, Pool Party and Bermuda Bay to color this snowsuit wearing cutie. I probably ought to unleash some other colors, but I like these so well! It’s my Cookie Cutter Cutie and I’ll color as I want to.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Cookie Cutter Christmas

There’s a special kind of genius in the Stampin’ Up! Home Office. The people that design the artwork for our stamps are flat out amazing. I mean, who looks at a gingerbread cookie figure and says “hey, if we turn it upside down, it’s a reindeer”????? Pure genius.

Tomorrow’s the last tag – stop by and let me know what your favorite has been!

When you need a Tag: Day Five

This is the same technique as yesterday – Adhesive Sheets to adhere DSP to a Thick Whisper White tag – but with a very different visual result. The starry night sky seemed to be begging for that perfect tree!

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Santa's Sleigh

  • Stamps: Seasonal Chums (greeting)
  • Color Palette: Whisper White, Basic Black, Garden Green, Copper Foil
  • Accessories: Big Shot, Santas Sleigh Thinlits, Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Metallic Sequins (retired)

To get the copper “shadow” on both sides of the tree, I just cut the copper tree in two down the middle. I also shortened the trunk, as it was too long to fit on my tag.

This tree is embellished with one of the patterns from Touches of Texture. I added Rhinestone jewels to the branches, and I personally think it’s a little too over-the-top. You could drape this tree with a mini-sequin garland and it would really sparkle!

When you need a Tag: Day Four

I loved this reindeer when it was introduced last year, and was delighted when it returned in the Annual Catalog this year. I especially love that it has a coordinating set of framelits, because I fussy cut way too many things as it is.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Santa's Sleigh

  • Stamps: Santa’s Sleigh
  • Color Palette: Whisper White, Basic Black, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Real Red, Garden Green
  • Accessories:  Big Shot, Santa’s Sleigh Framelits, Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, Merry Music Specialty DSP, Adhesive Sheets, Real Red 1/8″ Ribbon, Wink of Stella

There’s a little Wink on those antlers and hooves! I layered the Merry Music Specialty DSP with a Thick Whisper White tag using the Adhesive Sheets. The DSP is on the thin side, and I like to be able to write on the back of the tag! The Adhesive Sheets are perfect for that job.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Santa's Sleigh

This was my first version, and I guess you could call it the quick-and-easy tag.Merry Wishes is from Oh What Fun, another fabulous returning set from last year’s Holiday Catalog.

I created a simple mask to allow the wreath to sit on the reindeer’s neck.  I might like it better if I used an Aquapainter to add some color to the reindeer – I don’t think I’ve ever seen an albino!

When you need a Tag: Day Three

Beachy Little Christmas is a natural for those of us living in the tropics. The images are charming and the string of lights on the palm tree is a very familiar sight in the islands. Some neighborhoods are well known for their elaborate lights and displays, and it’s a treat to be driving home after a long day and find yourself surrounded on either side of the road with sparkling lights, stars, figures, and those crazy inflatable characters!

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Beachy Christmas

  • Stamps:  Beachy Little Christmas
  • Color Palette:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Real Red, Old Olive, Bermuda Bay, Pear Pizazz, Early Espresso
  • Accessories:  Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils

This is another super-portable project that’s small enough to tuck into your bag. I chose the watercolor pencils because the design is very small and detailed, and the pencils are quite forgiving with small spaces. I didn’t add the watercolor with an Aquapainter, but you certainly could if you prefer that look.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Beachy Christmas

This one is even quicker and easier with just the palm tree! I used Stampin’ Blends on this one and it was REALLY fast!

You don’t need to live in the tropics to have palm trees on your Christmas tags, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

When you need a Tag: Day Two

I like a variety of tags: whimsical, traditional, and a few classy ones for those classy friends (you know the ones!). My first version of this tag was okay, but then the Muse stepped in and this happened:

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Merry Patterns Hello Friend

It’s really pretty simple, but that’s how classy things are. Agreed?

  • Stamps: Hello Friend, Merry Patterns (Host Exclusive/October & November)
  • Color Palette: Real Red, Old Olive, Basic Black, Whisper White
  • Accessories: Big Shot, Circles Framelits, Paper Snips, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Real Red 1/8″ ribbon

I bought the Hello Friend stamp set for this wreath and it was worth every cent. Merry Patterns was a Host Exclusive stamp set offered this fall. It’s no longer available, but if you’re lucky enough to have it, get out your Paper Snips and invest in the fussy cutting on this one – you’ll be glad you did.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Hello Friend

If you don’t have Merry Patterns, there is a Plan B. (Note: there is ALWAYS a Plan B)  I cut a narrow strip of Crumb Cake cards stock and stamped a sentiment on it. It seemed a bit plain, so I indulged in a bit of doodling to dress it up. I added a ribbon/linen thread bow and some diahmohnds (that’s how the fancy girls say it) and I think it works!

But there is no doubt that I like the first one better.

Tags for your packages

I was on a roll with these tags…if I’d had more time I would have kept on going.  They’re generously sized for tags so you can put a mushy note on them to make your teenaged son roll his eyes.  Since I gave all of these away for the Water for People auction, I’ll have to make some more for my family to use later on.  (Famous last words.  I am so last minute it’s embarassing.)

Treats of the Season tag

Sweet Season and Snow Swirled stamp sets, Riding Hood Red and Always Artichoke classic ink pads, Very Vanilla, Riding Hood Red and Always Artichoke card stock, Scallop Circle, 1 1/4 inch and 1 3/8 inch circle punches, and retired Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon.

These tags have are stamped with “To” and “From” on the back and they are perfect to hang from the lid of a jar or around a package of home made goodies for the holidays.

I also did a set of tags with non-traditional Christmas colors.  Since I crossed over to the retired product side anyway, I decided I might as well break out the Bermuda Bay.  You know, I love being a demonstrator, and I am thrilled with our new Color Renovation, but it is really difficult for me to let go of certain things.  Riding Hood Red ribbon is definitely in that category.  So are Bermuda Bay and Soft Sky.  Sigh.

Tags for Christmas snowman

Tags for Christmas stamp set, Bermuda Bay and Rich Razzleberry Classic ink pad, Wisper White and Rich Razzleberry card stock, Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Write marker, 1 3/4 inch circle and 2 3/8 inch scallop circle punches, Vanilla Shinmmer Smooch Spritz, and retired Bermuda Bay ribbon.

A whole row of Snowman tags

Don’t they look cute all lined up?  There’s something about seeing them together that makes me want to smile.  Yeah, I know.  Dork.

Where HAS that Maui Stamper been?

Oh, but it’s been a busy couple of weeks.  It’s a long and complicated story, but the condensed version is that at the end of September we flew to Northern California to celebrate a very special 85th surprise birthday party for my husband’s aunt .  We came home for a few days and then turned around and flew back to the Bay Area for a week split between SanFrancisco and the Northern Sonoma Coast.  It was a wonderful time – the birthday party was really a family reunion of sorts, and best of all, I had all of my kids together.  My middle daughter was able to fly in from Boston – thank you, United Mileage Plus – and my oldest daughter and her boyfriend came in from Perth.  YES!!  It was a whirlwind of huggin’, kissin’ and eatin’ for 3 crazy days, but it was worth everything it took to share that time together.  Even my mom and dad were able to drive up from Santa Barbara to be with us.   Needless to say, Ray’s aunt was VERY surprised.  Our second California week was all about fun and relaxation, sight-seeing in San Francisco, reading books and hiking on the Sonoma Coast, and of course eating and drinking lots of good food.  Our Aussies have become excellent cooks and I was delighted to turn over the hot mitt and let them be in charge.

Mr and Mrs Maui Stamper

Such fun and adventure has a price, of course, and I came home to mountains of laundry and mail in addition to the regular routine.  I think I’m through the worst of it and hope things will feel normal again soon, although you might be hard-pressed to define normal in my world.

One of my immediate projects this week was to make some tags for a silent auction to raise money for Water for People.  This organization works on many levels to bring safe, clean water to under-developed communities throughout the world.  My tags were packaged in sets of 5 and I gave myself permission to pull out a few retired products to put them togethre.  To my immense delight, some of those retired products are now available on the Clearance Rack at FABULOUS prices, so if you haven’t taken a look, wait no longer – for example, that gorgeous striped Riding Hood Red ribbon is now $1.99!!  The Clearance Rack blitz will end on October 18, and supplies are limited.

Now, how about some tags:

Peaceful Season tags

This post is getting long, so I’ll share one more set of tags today and leave the rest for tomorrow.  Shoot, you all know the truth – I’m not all that organized yet and I need to get hustling!

Do Not Open Til Christmas tag

Cute, eh?  This polka dotted ribbon is also $1.99.  I bought a bunch to use on Christmas packages – at that price, you can’t beat it!  Here’s the set of tags:

Sparkly and Bright

Crystal and I did a Christmas tags class a few weeks ago.  I would plan anything with that woman.  She is extraordinarily creative, fun to be with, and to top it off, she appreciates my off-the-wall sense of humor.  We had two shifts of crafters come through her living room one Saturday, and there were a LOT of tags that went out the door.

Sparkly_Brite_tag

  • Sparkly and Bright stamp set
  • Kraft, Whisper White, and Handsome Hunter card stock
  • Chocolate Chip Classic stamp pad; Real Red Stampin’ Write marker
  • Real Red 3/4″ Polka Dot Grosgrain ribbon
  • Big Shot and Stampin’ Up! Two Tags die
  • 1 3/8″ circle punch, Circle Scallop punch and UniBall Signo gel pen

I absolutely did NOT need this Bigz die until Crystal bought it.  As soon as I saw this tag, I knew I was in big, big trouble.  I could envision so many things in that little circle – Christmas trees, jack o’ laterns, birds, party hats, flowers, butterflies…any and every occasion.  She is a very bad influence.  It takes me 30 minutes to drive to her house (ie her craft room), but fortunately, she is only a few blocks from a) my husband’s office and b) my son’s high school.  I am trying to convince her to move next door to me, but so far no go.  Something about her house being 5 minutes from work.  Can you imagine how much trouble we could get into if she was only steps away??

(P.S.  Do not try to convince me to move closer to her.  Yes, I know it would be closer to my husband’s work.  Yes, I know it would be closer to my son’s school.  But I am a 5 minute walk from one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world and I am staying put.  I will buy my own Bigz Two Tags die if I have to.)
