ONE LAST PICK OF THE PATCH

I’m sad to see Pick of the Patch retire, although I expected it would. There are still a lot of ideas floating around in my head but they are competing with a lot of other stuff that you don’t want to hear about! Enjoy this autumn card instead:

I wanted stems on the squash, but I didn’t want to fussy cut those curly bits. I separated the strands of the Jute Trim and used glue dots to shape them. I like the way they’re kind of unraveled (there are times you could say the same thing about me).

I fussy cut the sentiment from Pick of the Patch – it’s an easy one to do. And the Gorgeous Garden dies make another appearance with pick of the patch because I love them so much! Blending Brushes make a simple, soft background for the die cuts.

If you have a holiday weekend, I hope you’re cozy and warm. We’re in beautiful Sedona, Arizona this week with my family. It’s one of my favorite places to hike.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Happy Thanksgiving, friends. For my American friends, may your companions be joyful and your meal be satisfying. For my friends in other countries, I wish you the same even though you may not celebrate this holiday!

I love these little squash! I think pairing them with the Aspen Tree does makes them more Autumn than Halloween.

Some of them are fussy cut, but I don’t mind. I created an ombré look by inking with a light color, then adding the darker tone with a soft touch.

The Brushed Gold Cards & Envelopes are absolutely stunning, and they don’t get enough love! I used them for a project for my clubs and ended up with a half-dozen left over, so expect to see more inspiration in the weeks ahead. Here’s what we did in club:

The Christmas Classics dies have gorgeous 2-part sentiment panels. I had put the detailed mat panel directly on the card front, then added the Joy of Noel DSP circle on dimensionals. The sentiment panel is adhered on one side directly to the circle and has dimensionals to support the opposite end.

Just look at that shimmer – front and back! These cards will be perfect for special occasions beyond the holidays, so watch for their return and add them to your stash.

Walk in the Forest Triple Fold

One of the very best things about Stampin’ Up! events is swapping with other demonstrators. I came home from Backstage in August with stacks of great cards, but this design stood out. I switched it up with the Walk in the Forest Designer Series paper and loved the result:

  • Stamps: Joy of Noel
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Pretty Peacock, Memento Black
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Merry Melody Embossing Folder, Walk in the Forest DSP, Stampin’ Blends

Pat Ertman shared a beautiful card with this tri-fold design, and I had a lot of fun with it. Pat’s design uses strips of DSP that are 4″ tall, so it makes great use of the paper. You can use scraps, or you can cut the 12″ paper into the widths you need and then snip into 4″ lengths.

The first piece of DSP is 3/4″ wide, the second two are 1 3/4″ wide, and the final piece is 2 3/4″ wide. The white folding panel is 4 1/4″ tall and 9″ wide, scored at 1″, 2″, 4″ and 6″. The white base is 4 1/4″ and the Cherry Cobbler embossed panel is 4″ x 5 1/4″.

I love this image from the Joy of Noel stamps. I used it for my November DIY Calendar, and I’ll use it again! Joy of Noel and Walk in the Forest are on the Last Chance list, so shop the Online Store soon!

Little Monkey is Bananas (4 U)

Cute critters are CUTE, but when I go to make a card, as cute as they are, I tend to bypass them. The Little Monkey is an exception: I would send this card to ANYONE!

I LOVE the leaf pattern in the Joy of Christmas DSP and wish I could get a full pack of just that paper! Do you ever feel that way about one design in a pack? There’s always one paper I love more than the rest.

I colored the leaves with Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce dark blends. I don’t think there’s a law that you have to use dark and light together, and I think it looks more watercolored this way.

The monkeys are colored BEFORE they’re punched out. I masked their faces and used Pecan Pie ink on the Blending Brush like a stipple brush to get more texture. I pulled off the masking paper and lightly brushed their faces with what was left on the Blending Brush, then added a little blush with the Mini Blending Brush and Flirty Flamingo ink.

The inside has a shower of bananas down the side. I made tiny dots with the Pecan Pie Stampin’ Write marker because I like my bananas a little more ripe.

November 2023 DIY: Joy of Noel

Happy Grateful November! I’ve used non-traditional colors with a traditional holiday stamp from Joy of Noel to create a lovely autumn reminder:

I love this image from Joy of Noël, and I have been looking for alternative ways to use it. When I realized it just needed a shift in colors, I was off to the races.

I tucked a bit of Vellum behind the sentiment. I’m not sure it makes a difference – what do you think?

Have you noticed that Stampin’ Up! has started giving dies the same name as the stamp sets with which they coordinate? Not the case with Charming Sentiments/Sentiment Silhouettes, as they’re a hold-over from last year, but I love the new system! Makes my life a lot easier. That HALLOWEEN Friend

TRICK OR TREAT!

The Trick or Treat bundle features lots of cute Halloween images, but the secret bonus is that the dies include a treat box. I can never get enough packaging options! 😁

Everything was cut with one pass through the Big Boss except for the treat box, and the DSP is just the right weight to send through with two sheets at once. This little project goes together quickly!

(I know, I say that a lot. It’s a big deal when I find something quick and easy, because I tend to operate under the “more is more” umbrella a bit too often.)

All ready for Halloween treats – but I can’t buy those until the morning of the 31st. And I have to buy something I don’t especially like, for reasons I think are pretty obvious. When do you get your Halloween treats?

PICK OF THE PATCH THANKS

YUP. We’re still pickin’ in that patch! Today I’ve paired it with the Cottage Wreath stamps in a collaboration with my dear friend Crystal. We’re back to traditional pumpkin colors, and we used our Kraft Note Cards with Envelopes to make this a quick and easy card.

While we made this a thank you, it could be just about anything – even Happy Halloween. There’s a jack-o-lantern face in the set, so you could add that and call it good! I did slip the blackbird into the inside of the card, but I think that can still be multi-seasonal.

The pre-cut and scored note cards make this super easy. It would make a quick gift to that friend who loves pretty cards but just doesn’t have the time to put them together. And note cars are just the right size for a few quick lines, so they’re quick to put in the mailbox and on their way to brighten someone’s day.

The Abundant Beauty masks include not just fabulous florals, but houndstooth, autumn leaves, and snowflakes. I used the snowflakes mask to create my own version of DSP. I know you’ll be shocked to see I’ve used Pool Party, Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock 😆

Have you followed my Facebook Page? If you have, you might have encountered a LIVE demonstrating the process for making this card. It was a rough day on the interwebs, and after multiple attempts I gave up and just posted a video from my phone. Not my best work, but you’ll get the idea!

To get this layered effect, all you need to do is reposition the mask before you add a new color. Once you have the look that makes you happy (and my friends, card making is ALL about making ourselves happy!!!) just add a little ribbon and a sentiment and you’re done.
