A little Mojo Geometry

This week’s sketch at Mojo Monday had me seeing all sorts of shapes:

Maui Stamper Mojo Monday #333 Just Sayin'

  • Stamps:  Just Sayin’ and Language of Love
  • Color Palette:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay
  • Accessories:  Full Heart Punch, Word  Bubbles Framelits, Kaleidoscope DSP, Crushed Curry Chevron Ribvon, Textured TIEF

The sketch had two large circles, and I was soon thinking about polka dots.  The polka dots morphed into the triangle, and as you’ve surely heard before, that was the end of that 🙂

Maui Stamper Mojo Monday #333 Just Sayin'I’ve used two hearts like that a lot lately and I’m not tired of it – are you?  I particularly like the contrast between the Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry.  It’s kind of a peanut butter and jelly deal.

Maui Stamper Mojo Monday #333 Just Sayin'When I realized there were two different sides of paper in my package with a triangle motif I almost shouted out loud!  That wasn’t planned but it was a happy surprise for me.

Want to see where this started?

Mojo333SketchI took some liberties with the layout but you can clearly see the inspiration.  The circles wanted to be more towards one edge and once I moved them they seemed quite content.  (Do you talk to inanimate objects?  Please say you do.)

Takin’ a break from holidays

Feels as though I’ve been crafting in orange-and-black, red-and-green for DAYS.  I needed a change of palette!

Maui Stamper Lovely As A Tree Mojo311

  • Lovely as a Tree, Woodgrain and Express Yourself (hostess) stamp sets
  • Whisper White, Soft Sky, Gumball Green, Baked Brown Sugar and Marina Mist card stock
  • Baked Brown Sugar, So Saffron, Soft Sky and Marina Mist FFIP
  • Baked Brown Sugar and Gumball Green Stampin’ Write markers
  • 2 1/2 inch circle punch
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Soft Sky Seam Binding
  • Distressing tool

Love that distressing tool.  I call it the shredder.  Most of the FFIP were just a source of ink for the daubers, and I markered the trees.

Maui Stamper Lovely As A Tree Mojo311I used this week’s Mojo Monday sketch – Mojo311 – as the basis for this card.  Tomorrow it will be back to designing for classes, clubs and events – but tonight it was nice to take a little break.

Circling around the Mojo

It’s been ages since I’ve played a challenge.  I’ve had a lot of specific projects on my inspiration board and there wasn’t room for anything else.  Last night I finally had a chance to browse through some of my favorite blogs – talk about a pleasure! – and when I got to Mojo Monday I decided I’d done enough looking and headed up for some ink-to-the-paper stamping!

Mojo Monday 151 Circle Circuis

There’s a lot going on here, so bear with me:

  • Circle Circus and Fabulous Phrases stamp sets
  • Cornelli Lace Jumbo Stampin’ Around Wheel
  • Whisper White, Real Red and Basic Black card stock
  • Real Red and Basic Black Classic ink pads
  • Real Red 1/8″ taffeta and 5/8″ satin ribbon; Basic Black 5/8″ satin ribbon
  • 1 3/4″ Circle, Modern Label and Scallop Edge Border punches
  • Big Shot and the Square Lattice and Vintage Wallpaper Embossing folders
  • a small hand-held circle punch and Stampin’ Dimensionals

I’m sure I forgot to list something!

I’ll tell you the truth:  that greeting is adhered with Dotto repositionable adhesive.  I’m not certain I like it, but time will tell.  The stamped Real Red image from Circle Circus is hand cut (gasp! I know…) because I wanted it to fit Just So on the black circle.  It had to be done.  I used tiny black circles of cardstock for the faux brads on the sentiment because the real thing overwhelmed the project.    There are a lot of discarded bits and pieces on my craft table left over from this project, but it was satisfying to finish.

I didn’t buy Circle Circus when it was released as a preview set a year or two ago.  Because it was a sneak peak, there were Circle Circus cards everywhere and I grew weary of it.  I finally gave in and bought it with this year’s new catalog because I saw something really creative and had a brilliant inspiration to make that idea better.  (It’s coming, it’s just not done yet – Mojo Monday got in the way.)  I’m glad it’s on my shelf now.  You’ll see it again soon.

Friendly little houses all in a row

Had to dig out the Stamp-a-ma-jig with this one.  When you’re stamping little boxes in a line, nothing but STRAIGHT will do.  I attempted this 3 times before I gave in.  After all, I was using my Good Neighbors Clear Mount stamps, wasn’t I?  Shouldn’t I be able to line the houses up that way?  The honest answer is No, at least if you’re as picky about straight as I am.

Friendly little houses all in a row

  • Good Neighbor (SAB) and Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp sets
  • Whisper White, Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede and So Saffron card stock
  • Welcome Neighbor (SAB) and Patterns Pack III (Hostess) Designer Series Paper pads
  • Bermuda Bay, Dusty Durango, Old Olive and Soft Suede Classic ink pads
  • Old Olive Stampin’ Write marker and Aquapainter
  • 1 3/4″ and 1 3/8″ circle punches;  corner rounder,  piercing tool and mat
  • Stamp-a-ma-jig and  Button Latte Designer Buttons
  • Big Shot and Matchbox Bigz XL die (label)
  • Ribbon Originals Elementary and Linen Thread
  • Non-SU:  A needle to sew on the button and “self-adhesive notes” to mask the images

This is based on this week’s Mojo Monday sketch, but I kept digressing so it’s not true to the original design.  I can’t begin to count how many little scraps of paper, buttons, labels and punches were littering my craft table when I finally decided I was finished.  Ah, the creative process is a messy state of affairs!

The papers in the Welcome Neighbor Designer Series pad are really inspiring.  They’re vibrant colors, but many of the designs have enough white mixed in to keep them from overwhelming a project.  Some of the patterns are whimsical, which makes them fun to play with, and the “B side” is always a great neutral-type design that gives you lots of room to play.  (I guess “B-side” is one of those phrases that will go the way of the “E-ticket”.  Sigh.)

I hope these little houses have juiced up my Mojo.  I have a little time tonight to play some more.

You’ve Got a Friend – MOJO114

Many years ago, my husband and I went to a James Taylor concert…kind of a blast from the past for us, as we were part of  his fan club back in the early days.  I remember walking through the amphitheater during a break and overhearing a couple of “kids” talking.  One asked the other “Isn’t it weird how all these OLD people know all the lyrics to his songs?”  I can only imagine what the reaction would be now.  I must be approaching the Ancient category.

This week’s Mojo sketch called for a small image, but I found a way to use the entire card as my canvas.  The colors from the Thoroughly Modern paper seemed to have just the right intensity and pattern for an awning, and I even had the ribbon I needed to finish the look.

  • Cheep Talk stamp set
  • Rose Red and Bermuda Bay Classic ink pads; Whisper White Craft ink pad
  • Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Write marker; Unibal Signo Gel pen
  • Bermuda Bay, Rose Red and Whisper White card stock; Thoroughly Modern Designer Series paper
  • Scallop Edge punch; White embossing powder and heat tool; Stamp-a-ma-jig
  • Rose Red 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon; Piercing tool and template

This week you can purchase the Cheep Talk stamp set, a package of note cards, and the gorgeous Pumpkin Pie Corduroy buttons for $25.71 – that’s a 40% discount!  Head on over to my Online Store and check out all the great Holiday Extravaganza deals.  See you around, Friend.

My First Mojo

Card challenges can be addicting.   They stretch you to try new techniques, layouts, and colors.  Sometimes they go together so easily that you are exhilarated.  Sometimes you push and pull and struggle and end up throwing the whole thing away (well, I do anyway.  It’s just paper.)

I’ve been following the Mojo Monday blog and challenges for a while but haven’t taken the leap.  This week I jumped – just couldn’t resist those scallops along the bottom.  The Mojo bloggers have such awesome samples that it’s a little tough to get started, but it was fun to play with this sketch.

Mojo Monday 105

  • Blush Blossom and Whisper White cardstock, retired Stampin’ Up! DSP
  • Cameo Coral, Kiwi Kiss Classic Ink
  • Champagne Mist shimmer paint and sponge daubers
  • Crazy for Cupcakes and Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Sets
  • Wide Oval, Scallop edge and 1/16″ circle punches
  • Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon and Gold cord
  • Stamp-a-ma-jig, crewel needle, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I keep pulling out that darn Kiwi Kiss paper and ink.  I really loved last year’s In Color collection from Stampin’ Up! and I’m having a hard time letting go of it.  Eventually I’ll run out of scraps…but then there will be this year’s In Color collection to deal with.  If it’s not one challenge, it’s another!
