The Floating Sunset technique is reappearing today as the Sparkling Moon for the 2022 June DIY Easel calendar! I have a lot of ideas in my head for this technique – it’s fun, it’s easy, it uses scraps, and I love the result.
Stamps: Sparkle of the Season
Color Palette: Basic White, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Tranquil Tidefor mat (retired In Color)
Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, window sheets, layering circle dies, watercolor paper, water painter, ink refill, Wink of Stella, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Trust me, the Stella is there and it is very sparkly. I had some odd-size pieces of watercolor paper left over from the Floating Sunset cards, so I watercolored them with Bermuda Bay ink refills and cut them into strips. I started with a pretty dilute solution and added more drops of ink as I went along, but you could just as easily start with a stronger solution and dilute it with water as you work.
This technique has my mind spinning: I’m going to try it with Designer Series Paper next. So many options!
What do you think? Would you like to make one of these? Next month I’ll have the 2023 Calendar pdf for sale for all of you planner-aheader crafters. In the meantime, please visit my crafty BFFs Cheryl and Crystal’s to see the calendars they’ve created for June 2022.
It’s LAST CHANCE time for the 2022 January – June Mini catalog, and these incredible deals won’t last! Many dies are 50% off, so do the math: the best deal may not be the bundle, but buying stamps and dies separately. Whatever you do, don’t wait! Sale begins June 1.
The June Paper Pumpkin features fresh summer designs and sentiments to make 9 cards with matching envelopes. Your kit includes a customizable canvas bag – and you can order more mini bags to deliver your cards with style!

I am slightly obsessed with the new 3D Fern Embossing Folder! It slices, it dices…ok, it doesn’t do any of those things, but it works with just about every image in my collection! Today I’m sharing it paired with Happiness Abounds:
Stamps: Happiness Abounds
Color Palette: Basic White, Tahitian Tide, Orchid Oasis, Daffodil Delight
Accessories: Big Boss, Stampin’ Blends, Metallic Woven Ribbon, Wink of Stella, snips, Stampin’ Dimensionals, 21-23 In Color gems (retired)
This is a versatile layout, so if you have “bits” on your craft desk (you know, things you’ve die cut and colored and then didn’t use) this is an easy way to give them a home. I colored the open bloom from Happiness Abounds with Tahitian Tide and Daffodil Delight, then added a little Wink of Stella to the center. The trim is “unwound” with the tip of my snips (your pick tool works too) and adhered to the card with a strip of Stampin’ Seal.
You can see the sparkle from the Wink of Stella, and you can also see how that Fern texture really pops!
Card so nice I made it twice!!
What do you think of this version? That Sweet Sorbet ink makes that flower look like a poppy – so Poppy Parade would be another great choice. And yes, I fussy cut the sentiment (don’t you love that font???) but you could just as easily add it on a strip. Make yourself happy.
Inspired? I’ll bet you have a flower or two in your stamp collection 😁 Pick up the Fern 3D Embossing Folder and give this card a try! I’ll be flattered if you do.
Is your wishlist $99 or more? Perhaps you’d like to become a discount shopper and purchase the customizable starter kit. For just $99 you’ll choose $125 in Stampin’ Up! product and receive a bonus of 22 – 24 In Color Grid Paper, ink pad assortment, cardstock assortment, and Designer Series paper – an added value of $66.50. Happy Valentines Day, dear readers. While this is typically a day all about romantic love, I assure you that each one of you is beloved and absolutely wonderful just as you are! Today I’m sending each of you Valentine Greetings:
Stamps: Hand-Penned Petals, Love and Happiness
Color Palette: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla,Basic Black, Pool Party, Soft Succulent, Just Jade
Accessories: Big Boss, Penned Flowers dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Stampin’ Blends, In Good Taste DSP, Blender Pen, Linen Thread, Daubers
There’s a lot going on here. This was decidedly a MORE IS MORE kinda card! I had an idea when I began, and while this resembles my idea it is definitely it’s own creation. It kept growing until I finally shouted out loud “STOP” because that is the only way it happens. (There is a lot of muttering, exclaiming, and general one-sided conversation in my craft room. It can be frightening for the unaware.)
Note: I stamped and colored the Hand-Penned image on Basic White card stock, then filled all the white parts with Crumb Cake. I’m not brave enough to work on colored card stock, but I didn’t want that BRIGHT white on the front of this card so I covered it up!
I stamped the leaves directly onto the DSP, put the image on top with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and tucked some unwound Linen Thread under the corner. I stamped and die cut the greeting, but decided it needed a little brush with the dauber before it went on the card.
There’s a little surprise inside as well – I masked the leaves and used a Blender Pen to soften the color once I’d gotten them all in place. I am having a dreadful problem with smudging these days and need to pay closer attention to my fingers – it is very annoying.
I did a lot of intentional smudging directly on the DSP with daubers – I wanted the color of the DSP to be a little closer to Crumb Cake, but when I used that ink it seemed a little yellow hued to me. So I added little sprinkles with my Early Espresso marker, and then I put some ink in water and used a paint brush to drop bigger little sprinkles (I think that might have been the point when I yelled STOP.)
If you don’t have these supplies now, you’re going to need to get creative to make a Valentine for today. Not to worry, this card would make a lovely birthday card as well! You can find all the supplies HERE.

I love products that work hard for me, and when then can do multiple things, well, I’m sold! The Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder and dies really earn their real estate in my craft room with images and textures that will go way beyond Cupid’s arrows.
Stamps: Retired (sorry)
Color Palette: Basic White, So Saffron, Fresh Freesia, Soft SeaFoam
Accessories: Big Boss, Hello Friends Designer Series paper, Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder, Pearl Basic Jewels
I love the way that Hello Friend DSP looks behind the heart die cut opening! Those white flecks make the card sparkle, and the non-traditional colors help this card stand out from all the rest.
The banner, flowers, and leaves are also included in the hybrid embossing folder bundle, and they’re the perfect accent to the sweet floral embossed layer. There’s so much potential with this one product! Check out more details in the Online Store.
This week I received a request through the website for the price of the DIY Calendar PDF. I pulled out my 3 1/2″ x 5″ notecards for this one, as I knew I needed a fistful of cards for quick notes. The process of cutting out 4 colors for the rainbow with the big half-arc die generated 4 sets of rainbows, making this a pretty efficient little project!
I decided that the white notecard was a little too plain, so I put two (JUST TWO) drops of Pool Party ink in a little dish and added a couple of tablespoons of water. I dipped a medium-sized paintbrush into the diluted solution and flicked it lightly across the paper. You’ll need to let this dry a bit before using Multipurpose Glue or stamping, since the drops dampen the paper enough to create *issues*. Ask me how I know 😁 You’ll also want to be sure there’s nothing else in the general vicinity when you start flicking, unless of course you want LOTS of little Pool Party splatters on ALL of your projects.
I had a set of negatives left when I finished my little rainbow notecards, and put them to good use with the coordinating paper from Sale-a-bration, Sunshine and Rainbows. I am so happy with the way Stampin’ Up! chooses to put a bold pattern on one side and a tone-on-tone pattern on the reverse of nearly every sheet of Designer Series Paper we offer. Have you shopped Sale-a-bration yet?

Don’t forget the gorgeous Eden’s Garden Suite, available now as a sneak peek from the January – June 2022 Mini Catalog.
I’ve embraced a Halloween theme for October this year. I don’t always, but this goofy jack-o-lantern from Clever Cat stole my heart. How can you resist him with that Sorting Hat on top?
Accessories: Big Boss, Forever Flourishing dies, Paper Snips, Stampin’ Blends, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I fussy cut the cat and jack-o-lantern, and then cut apart a couple of leaf images from the Forever Flourishing dies to create some fall foliage (or what I imagine would be fall foliage, that’s not really a thing here on Maui.) Forever Flourishing is such a versatile set of dies!
Stampin’ Blends are my favorite coloring medium, hands down. I’m still learning different techniques for color grading and shadowing, but that doesn’t stop me from playing with them every chance I get. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s handmade!
Be sure you stop by to see what Cheryl and Crystal have created for October.
If you’d like to create your own calendar, the 2022 DIY Calendar PDF is available for sale. Click on Contact the Maui Stamper and send me your email and I’ll invoice you. It’s just $5, and you’re welcome to create for your own use as well as for sale. Please note this is a PDF – you’ll receive a file and print your own copies.
Color Palette: Whisper White, Basic Gray, Just Jade, Calypso Coral, Mango Melody
Accessories: The BOSS*, Poinsettia dies, Fluid 100 watercolor paper, Watercolor pens, Vellum, Metallic pearls, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Wink of Stella
* Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine. Which takes a lot of space and typing, so I’m calling it The BOSS.
Poinsettias aren’t just red any more! They’re cream colored and speckled and variegated and even gold, so I don’t see why they can’t be Calypso Coral and Mango Melody! It’s 2020 and the rules are all useless, so I am making my own. So there.
This might have been my favorite month of all of 2020. The watercoloring, the vellum, the swirls and dots, and the metallic pearls all made me feel very in-the-zone, and heaven knows 2020 needs itself some ZONE.
Cheryl and Crystal have December calendars too, so take a moment to see what they have done. And then maybe, in the spirit of the holidays, take another moment to leave them a comment to tell them what you love about their work. Bloggers are funny like that, we like a little bit of attention every now and then.
Or just tell us what new rule you’ve made for 2020! What colors are your poinsettias??
If you’d like to make a 2021 calendar click Contact the Maui Stamper at the top of the page and send me your email. I’ll invoice you $5 and when you’ve paid I’ll email you a pdf of the 12 months of 2021 and a cover to finish it out and make a lovely gift. (I think we will still be making new rules in 2021, so a new calendar is a Very Good Thing.)
If you’re as smitten with this bundle as I am, click HERE to get your own. Thanks.
