What does the Minion say?

As a counterpoint to the Angry Birds card, we created a Minion card.

Maui Stamper Minion Circle Flip card

  • Stamps:  None  (GASP!!)
  • Color Palette:  Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Basic Black, Smoky Slate
  • Accessories:  Thinlits Circle card and the Big Shot; 2 1/2″, 2″ and  3/4″ circle punches; Owl Builder punch; Stampin’ Dimensionals; Tombo (the Wonder Adhesive); Fringe Scissors

This is an easy card, but it takes a little time, and your fingers will likely get all Tombo-ee (yes, that is a word.)

Maui Stamper Minion Circle Flip cardBegin with the Circle Thinlet card in Daffodil Delight.  You’ll need 2 pieces of Pacific Point (mine were 1 1/2″ tall) for the overalls, plus narrow strips to make the straps.  The “button” on the straps is from the Owl Builder – a real button would have made this card too thick for standard postage.

I used a 3/4″ strip of Basic Black for the bands near the eye (what the heck are they for, anyway??)   And you’ll need to punch 2 Whisper White 2 1/2″ circles, a 2″ Daffodil circle (that you’ll cut in half), and a 3/4″ Black circle for the eyeball.  The glasses? goggle? monocle? is created by punching a 2″ Smoky Slate circle, then centering the round opening in the 2 1/2″ circle punch to cut out a ring.  I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to give it some height over the eye.

This is what the card looks like laid out flat.  There’s a plain Whisper White circle on the back of the eye to write a message, but here’s where I got stuck.  What does the minion say?  No idea.

Maui Stamper Minion Circle Flip cardHere’s the back side, laid flat.  Note that the “hair” is angled off to the side – otherwise it gets smushed (also a word) when the card is closed.

My card is CASED from THIS version, but there are many other versions in the CraftyWeb.  Have a blast creating your own!!

And an Owl in a Heart Tree

Ho man…this card…the title…it just gets dopier and dopier:

I {Heart} Hearts

  • I {Heart} Hearts and All Holidays stamp set
  • Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Pear Pizazz, Chocolate Chip and Daffodil Delight card stock
  • A random scrap of Real Red Designer Series Paper
  • Real Red Classic ink pad; Pear Pizazz Stampin’ Write marker
  • XL Two Step Owl, XL Two Step Bird, and XL Blossoms Petal punches
  • Full Heart and Heart to Heart punches
  • Whisper White 3/8 inch taffeta and Real Red 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon
  • Big Shot and Lattice Textured Impressions folder

Do you want my honest opinion?  This one needs to go back to the drawing board.  I was thinking of the Partridge in the Pear tree (yes, I have a Christmas Carol hangover) and a goofy owl in a tree/bush made from hearts came to mind.  I think it was cuter in my head.

The Owl’s little “thought bubble” is the wing from the XL Bird punch.

Dopey, dopey, dopey!

Kellie’s Halloween Treats

Kellie was here this week and shared these fabulous Halloween treat holders.  She told me that she made over 30 of them with her mom and her daughter for her daughter to share at school, and they had a great time together.  Her mom commented that the 9 year old recipients might not appreciate all the time and effort that went into the making, but her daughter responded   “But I’m having a GREAT time!!”  Doesn’t that make your heart melt?

Kellie's Halloween Treats

  • Wicked Cool Stamp set
  • Basic Black Classic ink pad; Whisper White Craft ink pad
  • Basic Black, Whisper White and Pumpkin Pie card stock
  • Wicked Fun Specialty paper
  • Circle and Scallop Circle punches
  • XL Two Step Owl punch
  • Big Shot and Candy Wrapper Bigz die

I don’t have the exact list of supplies from Kellie, so I’m improvising here.  My photo barely picks up the cob webs running along the side of the black cardstock but they are the perfect touch.

Do you recognize the ghost?  Kellie saw it on Stampers’ Showcase, the Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator creative sharing site.  It’s the XL Two Step owl, standing on his head with his feet cut off.  Doesn’t that crack you up?  I guess I’m easily entertained, but it gives me the giggles.

So what’s keeping you from making a few treat holders – and some memories – with your family??

My Desk-top Make-over

I’m an office supplies dork.  I love nice pens and Post-it® notes and crisp pads of paper and colored push pins and highlighters and Sharpies®.  You can imagine my reaction when I saw the matching file folders and envelopes in the Family Organization Suite.  Those big bold flowers and that goofy owl are a great starting place for a desk-top make-over:

Play Date Class projects

I’m offering a class this month to get the make-over started.  We’ll make the jumbo paper clip book mark, the Post-It® note holder and the clipboard plus a coordinating card (that missed the photo) for $15.  Class will be Thursday morning September 16 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and Tuesday evening September 21 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Take a 10% discount on any of the Family Organization suite products on pages 92 and 93 of the Idea Book and Catalog with your paid class attendance – a few of those items are pictured below.  I hope you can join us!

Remembering when

The two beautiful little girls in this photo are big grown up girls now.  I was inspired to put this page together when I created a card with a similar theme, and I spent a wonderful afternoon sorting through old photos.  It’s so much easier for me to choose pictures when this much time has gone by.  I don’t have the same emotional attachment to every single event I thought was worthy of documenting and it’s easier to edit and choose the memories that really stand out.

Carol and Sara - Worth the Wait

  • Word Play, Elements of Style and Wonderful Favorites stamp sets
  • Whisper White, Pirouette Pink, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip and Old Olive card stock
  • Retired Designer Series Papers
  • Chocolate Chip Classic ink pad and Versamark pad
  • Chocolate Chip and  Pretty in Pink Stampin’ Write Markers
  • XL Two Step Owl, XL Bird, Scallop Trim Border and Corner punches
  • Big Shot and Top Note and Serif Essentials Bigz dies
  • Timeless Type and Birds and Blooms Sizzlets

This page could be an 8 1/2 x 11 page (the pink section) if you prefer that size, but most of my pages are 12 x 12.  I’m notorious for not completing scrapbooks but I’m inspired now.  Besides, I really enjoyed looking through those photos.  The memories are sweet, and help me feel better when I miss having my girls at home.  The good news is that I’ll see them soon as we are celebrating a special family birthday next month together in California.  I’m counting the days!
