The Fern 3D Embossing Folder is back with a different look today. I’ve run it through the Big Boss with Orchid Oasis card stock, and WOW does it shout out loud!

Parakeet Party is a bold and bright green, and it really makes this card pop. It has such high energy, and moves this design into a very different feeling than you would get from Pear Pizazz or even Granny Apple Green. I love the opportunity to work with new colors each year when our In Color collection releases.

I slipped a little metallic woven ribbon in again, fraying just the ends this time. I hardly ever bother tying a bow any more. I just stick a glue dot where it will be hidden by an element on the front of the card and position the ribbon that way. It’s easier to move and adjust so that you get exactly the look you want without tying and tying and tying again.

Orchid Oasis is such a saturated color and it really shows off the gorgeous detail in the Fern 3D EF. The design is multi-directional and covers the entire panel, giving the crafter multiple ways to orient and use the panel. Put the Fern 3D Embossing Folder on your next order!

A 3D Fern Birthday

I am slightly obsessed with the new 3D Fern Embossing Folder! It slices, it dices…ok, it doesn’t do any of those things, but it works with just about every image in my collection! Today I’m sharing it paired with Happiness Abounds:

This is a versatile layout, so if you have “bits” on your craft desk (you know, things you’ve die cut and colored and then didn’t use) this is an easy way to give them a home. I colored the open bloom from Happiness Abounds with Tahitian Tide and Daffodil Delight, then added a little Wink of Stella to the center. The trim is “unwound” with the tip of my snips (your pick tool works too) and adhered to the card with a strip of Stampin’ Seal.

You can see the sparkle from the Wink of Stella, and you can also see how that Fern texture really pops!

Card so nice I made it twice!!

What do you think of this version? That Sweet Sorbet ink makes that flower look like a poppy – so Poppy Parade would be another great choice. And yes, I fussy cut the sentiment (don’t you love that font???) but you could just as easily add it on a strip. Make yourself happy.

Floating Sunset

When I saw Laura’s Floating Sunset Palm card I did a little happy dance. I knew this was a card I would love making again and again, and the Paradise Palms bundle absolutely makes this project!

The technique is really simple: cut a circle from our window sheets and adhere strips of colored card stock. I chose to vary their width, which also allowed me to include more colors. 😁 I added a little color to the palm, and used Starry Sky to wash the watercolor paper with color for the background.

I made a second version with the sun sinking into the water. I considered changing the color of the background for this, but honestly, this is how it looks when I watch the sun go down, so I kept it.

The inside of this card was begging for these 3 palms, which I colored with Stampin’ Write markers.

Do you see that label on my stamp case? 22JJ? I embraced my inner nerd and made labels for each case to indicate the catalog where they first appeared. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to dig back for that information, so now when my order comes I get out my label maker and put labels on EVERYTHING.

My Stampin’ Up! Box o’ Goodies arrived last week, and I’ve spent this weekend playing. My first tasks was to create some goodies for Maui Stampers teammates who are attending a virtual event together the end of the month. It was a perfect opportunity to try out the 22-24 In Colors:

I came up with this modified matchbook design for a sticky note cover to make it a little easier to open and close – at least, I think so!

That Parakeet Party 1/2″ band slides up and down on the bottom flap to create a closure around the top flap. The new stitched square from the Stylish Shapes dies (oh, will I use these!!) fits perfectly on the top.

You can just barely see that band in the closed position underneath the Stylish Shapes Square.

April 2022 DIY: Celebrate Sunflowers

The war in Ukraine and the plight of the Ukrainian people has been on my mind for weeks, and when I started to reflect on my April calendar, it was their sunflower that came to mind. I’ve created this as a reminder on my desktop to keep them all – fighters, citizens, refugees – in my prayers.

I masked off the top of the calendar and then stamped the image as close to the top as I could. I used a LOT of color, and kept going back over the image to create variety and intensity. Our new Naturals Blends were the perfect complement to those sunny yellows. I’ve matted this one with a double mat in Daffodil Delight and Misty Moonlight in honor of the Ukrainian colors.

These little calendars are such fun to make, and I sell the pdf for $5 so that you can design your own. Message me for details.

All the savvy Stampin’ Up! crafters know that bundles are one of our best ways to save. Butterfly Brilliance is a perfect bundle for getting a lot done in a single turn of the Stamp Cut and Emboss machine. The stamp is a large format, and the images fit into a single die yielding 6 butterflies with one crank! I tried the butterflies with both Stampin’ Blends and Watercolor Pencils, and was surprised how much I preferred the pencils.

The image is stamped in Sahara Sand. I found the pencils easier to use on this detailed image, and I liked having the ability to shade even in a very small space. By layering colors I could create transitions, and I had a great time choosing colors for this never-found-in-real life butterfly.

To keep the focus on the butterfly, I used a Basic White panel on a Basic White card base. The panel is popped up on dimensionals, as is the butterfly.

This is the version with the Stampin’ Blends. Do you see the difference? What do you think?

March 2022 DIY: Plentiful Plants

This month I’ve got a little bit of garden and a little bit of wildlife for your DIY Desktop. I combined the Plentiful Plants bundle with those chubby kiwis (birds, not people!) from Count on Me for an “only in my craft room” scene from nature:

I played a bit with the colors – I used both Garden Green and Old Olive on the plants, and I used multiple colors on the kiwi. I masked the one in the foreground, and used my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write marker for their little beaks and feet, since they were such small features. Then I just played with the Neutral Blends until I got something I liked. I don’t promise they look like this in nature, but they do in my craft room!

To be honest, the Sea Glass Shapes don’t exactly make sense in the forest (or for that matter, in my house where the potted plants live) but I’ll stand on creative license here and say that I like the way they look.

I was inspired by THIS CARD (thank you, Mikaela) but I wanted to use the clouds from the Sunshine & Rainbow DSP. Oh so coincidentally 😏, they fit PERFECTLY in our Cloud Punch (which I am sorry to report is also currently unavailable, but is expected in the warehouse on March 28th). I punched out a full page of clouds and cloud pieces, then set to work deciding how to use them.

This doesn’t have to be a baby card at all, but that’s how I intend to use it. I made a second version using Bermuda Bay as an accent color instead of Flirty Flamingo, and I moved the clouds around. I also used the Sunshine & Rainbow DSP behind the opening instead of Simply Marbelous.

And then, just for fun, I changed the sentiment. This one is from the Sale-a-bration 2022 stamp set Special Moments, and it’s full of not-so-everyday messages for all types of everyday occasions.

What do you think? Which of these 3 versions really hits the mark? It was certainly a very pleasant afternoon spent making them.
