SURFING SANTA

This Jolly Old Elf was at the top of my mini catalog list, but I’m a traditionalist and don’t like to dive into Christmas too early. Crafting is different, though: there’s a lot to do before December 25th.

The first time I stamped and colored this image, I fussy cut it. Normally that makes me really happy, but somehow Santa got lost without a spotlight. I did cut the tops of the waves, but it barely qualifies as fussy cutting. I stamped them 3 times across on the Nests of Winter DSP – I love the result when you stamp tone-on-tone on top of DSP!

DIY NOVEMBER 2024: HAPPY HIBISCUS

Have you seen Happy Hibiscus? It’s a brand new Online Exclusive, currently available only to demonstrators – until November 5th. I saw the name and knew it would be a keeper!

There are lots of colors because I got a little bit fussy. I was trying to replicate our state flower, hibiscus brackenridgei. I used my Blender Pen and a dry brush to create that incredible center, although mine went a little more pink than berry red. But oh, will it be fun to play with all the colors that Mother Nature has used to paint the hibiscus!

SPOTLIGHT ON NATURE: WHITE EMBOSSING

One of the Maui Stamper team members shared this technique with me, and I was smitten. It’s simple to do and I love the pop of color it gives on top of Crumb Cake card stock! Thanks, Brigid. 💕

  • Stamps: Spotlight on Nature, Changing Leaves
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Berry Burst
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Greetings of the Season dies, Deckle Rectangles dies, Exposed Brick Embossing Folder, White Embossing Powder, Embossing Buddy and Tray, Heat Tool, White Craft Ink, Stampin’ Write Markers, paintbrush, dauber, Linen Thread, Purple Fine Shimmer Gems, Stampin’ Dimensionals

There’s a lot going on here, but none of it is hard. I embossed the Spotlight on Nature flower on Crumb Cake card stock with White Craft Ink and White Embossing Powder. To get the color to pop, I used a small brush to paint inside the flowers and leaves with White Craft Ink (I didn’t dilute it). Once that dried completely, I colored on top of the White Craft Ink with Stampin’ Write markers.

I am also quite smitten (it’s an excellent word, try it) with the Greetings of the Season dies. They have a little hole in the die so you can tie on your thread or ribbon. I love how clean that little hole is!!

SEASON OF GREEN AND GOLD BOOK TREAT BOX

I’m finally feeling a little bit of Christmas! This Book Treat Box was a lot of fun to cover and embellish. Without “littles” in my house or my neighborhood, Halloween doesn’t get the attention it used to – but I confess that I filled the box with Halloween candy!

  • Stamps: Greetings of the Season
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Old Olive, Garden Green
  • Accessories: Book Treat Box, Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Greetings of the Season dies, Layers of Beauty dies, Something Fancy dies, Gold Foil Paper, Season of Green and Gold DSP, Gold Trim, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I placed the sentiment focal point on the top of the box so that it could make a “keeper” for this little tab. The tab has adhesive on it, but you would have to tear the box open to get inside. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals on either end of the focal point to leave room for the tab.

Inside the box I layered a little sparkle. If you’re like me, the hardest part of something like this is figuring out which panel is on the inside and which panel is on the outside. I played around with it until I was certain, then made tiny little pencil marks on the panels that I wanted to embellish with DSP.

These adorable boxes are currently out of stock, but they’re expected back in the week of November 4. Keep an eye on the Online Store and get yours before they sell out again!

DIY OCTOBER 2024: REGAL FLORA

Didn’t think I needed another flower. Didn’t think I needed Regal Flora. Didn’t think I WOULD BE SO WRONG!

  • Stamps: Regal Flora (and yes, you need it too!)
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Pebble Path, Petal Pink, Calypso Coral
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Regal Flora dies, 24-26 In Color Shimmer Gems, Dauber, Stampin’ Dimensionals

This is such an easy technique to add depth to an image. Ink your stamp (I used Petal Pink) and dunk your dauber into another color (Calypso Coral in this example). Gently tap your dauber – you don’t want a circle of color, you want a gradation. Stamp! And admire your cleverness.

I also stamped off the Pebble Path background twice before I added it to the calendar page, and once before I stamped it for the stems.

I featured Regal Flora twice last month on the Maui Stamper, and pretty much stole THIS idea for my calendar. (HERE is the other one.) I could have chosen another color palette, but I like this one. Choose what you like at the Online Store.

WINTERLY TREE TOPS WREATH

Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper is a great way to step up a card with a minimum of effort and bulk. Today’s Winterly Tree Tops card uses both the Country Woods (all time fave!) and Nature’s Sweetness DSP options to set the stage for a holiday card.

POP OF REGAL FLORA

Do you love the new Forever Plaid 3D Embossing Folder as much as I do? What a way to make a white-on-white card pop – and adding Petunia Pop seals the deal <wink>

That gorgeous framed panel is one die that cuts out two pieces. (I should have paid more attention in geometry class, I could tell you more about that shape!) I cut it twice: once in Basic White, once in Bubble Bath, and did a mix-and-match. Love Love Love!!!

After I inked the stamp with Bubble Bath, I used a dauber to add a little Petunia Pop to the center of the bloom. I really love this look! If you do too, shop the Online Store.

WINTERLY BIRDS IN THE TREETOPS

If you’ve followed me for very long, you’ll know I love my birdies. These two are quite the Winterly pair: they look as though they’re having a little spat. But they’re doing a good job of looking good while they do!

I used the grid from Spotlight on Nature to add some texture behind the pair. Texture is one of my favorite simple add-ons. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it doesn’t add any volume to the card. I took my coloring cues from that gorgeous Winter Meadow DSP, and I slipped in the Summer Splash ribbon even though it’s nit technically in the paper. I think it works!

SPOTLIGHT ON PRETTY IN PINK

It wasn’t my original intent, but this card turned out to be quite the girly card. ALL THAT PINK!!! Sometimes I surprise myself.

My original intent was to work with the Spotlight on Nature dies to see what I could do with them. I cut a circle from Pretty in Pink DSP from the Color Family pack, then cut a white ring with a larger circle to create a frame. I stamped the floral image from the Spotlight on Nature stamps onto a white card front, then layered the DSP with the opening over the image.

I used the marker to stamp method, coloring directly onto the stamp with my Stampin’ Write markers. Instead of filling in with Stampin’ Blends, I chose to use a Blender pen. The shading is softer and allows the details from the stamped image to show.
