Egg Cartons: yes, they’re available!

The charming Mini Egg Cartons were a bit of an availability nightmare for Stampin’ Up! this spring. The first batch sold out in a flash, and the next order was held up during the shipping process. They’re in the warehouse now, and are retiring the end of May. It’s not too late!

Maui Stamper Mini Egg Cartons

These made perfect gifts for my April club, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to spritz!  If you’re noticing a tone difference between colors, you’re right. I used the Stampin’ Up! Spritzer and began with 8 – 10 drops of ink refill: Elegant Eggplant, Flirty Flamingo, Crushed Curry, and Bermuda Bay.  I intentionally chose more saturated colors to allow me to play with the tone.

After adding the ink to the Spritzer, I filled it with rubbing alcohol and spritzed away.  The cartons are quite absorbent and took the color extremely well, and each carton used about 2/3 of the Spritzer. (HELPFUL NOTE:  Wear gloves!!!  I did the Bermuda Bay cartons first, and have the dyed thumb to prove it.)   I added just a couple of additional drops of ink to the solution remaining in the Spritzer and then filled back up with alcohol, and that gave me the lighter shade you see on the right.

Maui Stamper Mini Egg Cartons

Since these were an Easter gift, Easter candy went inside. My plastic eggs were on the large side, so I opted to skip the shreddies, but another time I will absolutely skip the plastic eggs in favor of all that glorious grassy fill.

Each carton was closed and simply tied with a generous white ribbon and bow. There is more retired ribbon in my stash than I care to admit, but I stayed true to the white ribbon because I loved the clean look and it tied together the differently colored boxes. (LOL)

The tag features the retiring Decorative Label with the retiring Elegant Butterfly punch. The labels are cut from coordinating colored stock, and the butterfly is Shimmery White with a  sparkly strip of jewels.

These boxes make a delightful presentation for candy, fruit, jewelry, art supplies, or anything you can fit inside. I’d love to know how you filled yours!  They’re still available HERE.

The Retiring List – what’s a crafter to do?

2017 Retiring Header

I’ve had a little time to look through the list of products retiring from 2016-2017, and I have a few things to share with you. Products are selling out VERY QUICKLY, so don’t delay.  Here are a few things I consider noteworthy:

  • Bundles are retiring – in some cases, stamps will continue. Many have already sold out.
  • Many suites, especially in the Occasions catalog are retiring. Stock up on DSP and embellishments for things you already have
  • Project Life products are retiring, many at a discount. The cards packs are GREAT for card making!!
  • Gorgeous Grunge – Clear and Wood –  is retiring.  Don’t miss that one.
  • Botanical Blooms (discounted!) and the Pineapple Clear and Wood stamp  are retiring – if you do tropical cards, snap these up!
  • The Owl Builder punch is retiring. So.Much.Punch.Art.
  • Christmas Greetings Thinlits  are retiring – one of my absolute favorites.
  • Stars Framelits are retiring.  These are a holiday staple.
  • The Adhesive Remover is retiring, and I consider it a crafting essential.

RETIRING 2017!!! HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!

I’ve just had few minutes with this list and am still processing.   I’ll post later with some thoughts, but I want to get it in your hands.

Stampin' Up! Retiring Products 2017

As always, these items are WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.  Don’t delay if one of your favorites is on the list!  There are some fabulous discounts available and those items often sell out quickly.

Note that all of the Project Life products are on the list.  At the end of this catalog year (May 31, 2017) Stampin’ Up! will be ending its relationship with Becky Higgins and Project Life.  Many similar products will be available through Becky Higgins, but they will not be designed to coordinate with the Stampin’ Up! palette.

There’s a new baby boy in the family!

My cousin’s daughter – our Goddaughter – had a baby boy earlier this year.  I sent a selection of some of my all-time favorite children’s books, including of course Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.  The big monster from Yummy in My Tummy was the logical choice to welcome Nolan to the family:

Maui Stamper Yummy In My Tummy

  • Stamps:  Yummy in My Tummy, Any Occasion (SAB 2017)

I had to fussy cut him. HAD TO. I don’t mind when it’s for a single card.

He looks just like Max in his wolf suit.

Got my ducks in a row

Every now and then I challenge myself to give an under-appreciated stamp set a little love. Barnyard Babies is filled with petite, line drawn images of farm animals, and it was an early must-have from last year’s annual catalog.  I’ve used it for some really fun cards (as well as August 2016), but it’s been collecting a big of dust as of late.

Maui Stamper DIY Easel Calendar Barnyard Babies

A stamp, a sticky-note mask, and a marker or two – and April is ready!  The fact that duck beaks and feet could be colored in Daffodil Delight was a bonus. What color speaks April more eloquently than daffodil yellow?

Butterflies for encouragement

A friend is recovering from one of those “health episodes” that make us all stop and think. I take care of so many people in my life – do I need to do more for me? What would happen if…?  We’re all so glad she is home and recovering, and of course I hoped I could send a little encouragement her way.

Maui Stamper Beautiful Butterfly Just for You

  • Stamps:  Watercolor Wings, You’ve Got This
  • Color Palette:  Whisper White, Sahara Sand, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo
  • Accessories:  Big Shot, Bold Butterfly Framelits, Butterflies Thinlits, Wink of Stella Clear, Vellum card stock, Silver thread, Metallics Sequins Assortment, Fine Tip Glue Pen, Glue Dots

I’m officially obsessed with cutting out the detailed butterfly wings in vellum.  (News Flash: I am obsessed with Way.Too.Many.Things)  The Fine Tip Glue pen works quite well to adhere just the body to the base, leaving the wings to move.

Maui Stamper Beautiful Butterfly Just for You

I twisted a piece of Silver thread to make it stay in a V shape and put it between the vellum and the base with an extra dab of the Fine Tip Glue pen.  It’s a little touch, but then again, it’s all about the little touches, now, isn’t it?

Take good care of yourselves, my friends.  You are important.  You are loved.

More gorgeous succulents

If you liked the card from the last RemARKable Blog tour, I think you’ll enjoy what I did with some of the leftover die cuts.  This is a CASE from Krista Driessen – with variations!

Maui Stamper Oh So Succulent

This is quite similar to her card. Using watercolor paper for this technique really helps! I used the Gold Wink of Stella pen to splatter the main panel for this card, and my watercolor wash wasn’t completely dry. As a result, the wash has taken on a gold tone, and some of the splatters ran a bit. I considered it a lovely serendipity.

Maui Stamper Oh So Succulent

I just kept playing with the watercolor wash, as well as the colors and placement of the succulents. I wasn’t happy with the way the sentiment embossed with my Very Vanilla embossing powder – I think it’s too old – so I tried another option.

Maui Stamper Oh So SucculentThis one got out of control!  Not my favorite, but it’s a much bolder look.  I decided to skip the wash altogether:

Maui Stamper Oh So Succulent

I’m not sure if I prefer this one, or the first one. The supplies are the same:

  • Stamps: Oh So Succulent
  • Color Palette:  Ecru (watercolor paper), Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Basic Black, Pear Pizazz, Always Artichoke, Garden Green, Wild Wasabi
  • Accessories:  Big Shot, Succulent Framelits, Aquapainter, Wink of Stella Gold, Diamond Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Glue dots, White Perfect Elements, Aquapainter

Have some fun! Mix and match elements of a card design – start with your own design, or CASE another paper artist.  You never know what you’ll discover.

One more Avant Garden Welcome

Sometimes I’m astonished by the difference a color palette can make. Sure, I’ve rearranged the images a bit, but this card is quite similar to the two previous versions found HERE and HERE.

Maui Stamper Avant Garden Sale-a-bration 2017

This is a brighter, warmer color scheme, and as much as I love my Pool Party combos, this card in Calypso Coral and Blushing Bride really makes me happy. The circular design of the flowers around the Stitched Shape sentiment circle was really simple to do.  Blushing Bride is such a soft tone that I didn’t even mask the flowers: I just stamped away!

Maui Stamper Avant Garden Sale-a-bration 2017

  • Stamps:  Avant Garden (Sale-a-bration 2017), retired demonstrator exclusive stamp set (sentiment)
  • Color Palette:  Whisper White, Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral, Watermelon Wonder
  • Accessories:  Metallic Ribbon (Sale-a-bration 2017), Sequins from the 2016 Holiday catalog, Big Shot, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Glue dots

There are just a couple more weeks left to earn free Sale-a-bration products.  When it’s over, it’s really over – these stamp sets and exclusive accessories DO NOT go on the Clearance Rack!  Shop now.

Maui Stampers Team Shoebox Swap

Last month, a few of the Maui Stampers got together to make cards. It’s fun to gather as demonstrators: we talk shop, catch up on each other’s lives, and make a LOT of cards. The Shoebox Swap format makes it go quickly, and even allows long-distance members to participate (we missed you, Peggy!)

We made gorgeous cards:

Maui Stamper Sending Love Peggy Alexander

Peggy designed a fabulous valentine using the Sealed with Love bundle and punched ALL THE PIECES for us, since she sent hers in from Washing State.

Desiree created a beautiful card with the Special Reason bundle, showcasing the versatility of using both positive and negative die cuts:

Linda’s iridescent dragonfly using the Dragonfly Dreams bundle was stunning in Glimmer Paper:

And Heather created a card we all loved using Beautiful You:

There’s another image inside, and one of these days I’ll share this card again with that image. I made an error on mine and need to borrow the stamps from Heather to fix it!

There were other cards, but those crafters have their own blogs, and I’ll let them share.
