JUNE 2024 DIY: SEASIDE WISHES

I did a happy dance when I saw Seaside Wishes on the demonstrator pre-order offering. It was at the top of my shopping list, and that should come as no surprise. I have lots of plans for these images!

There’s a little Wink of Stella along the shoreline, a bit of sea foam if you like. The pebbled path is stamped-off to keep it subtle. I brushed a light layer of Pool Party above the path and Crumb Cake below it with Stampin’ Brushes.

This calendar page is perfect for the start of summer. To be honest, we don’t really notice summer – June is mango season. Lychee and passionfruit are soon to follow. We have seasons, but they’re different from the traditional ones on the calendar. (Whale season starts anytime late October to early November!)

Sweetly Scripted with In Color DSP

I love featuring a single color with black and white. I have yet to find a combination that doesn’t work – and I thought Shy Shamrock was a stunner:

The font combined with the length of the sentiment makes it a natural for a focal point. And that diagonal panel is simple: cut it to the width you want, mat it with Basic Black card stock, and place it diagonally on your card front. Use your snips (or a trimmer if you prefer) to square the corners and you’re done!

I had such fun with this! Bold Butterflies is from the archives, but you might not guess that looking at this card:

This is a VERY simple design and I think that’s why it works. It lets those big Bold Butterflies shine. The center butterfly is fussy cut (this stamp set pre-dates dies by years!!)

Hexagons In Color

The Heartfelt Hexagon punch has been super popular, and if you’re lucky enough to have one I hope you’ll try this fun card:

I found it easiest to punch multiple hexagons and then play with them until I found a pleasing pattern.

I need more cards with this sentiment 😳 sad, but true! I’m glad to have it.

Leaf Collection: Welcome Friend

Leaf Collection is the most versatile large format stamp we’ve had in a long time. Today’s card uses it traditionally: as a background image.

  • Stamps: Leaf Collection, Sending Love
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Pretty Peacock, Granny Apple Green, Lemon Lime Twist
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, So Swirly Embossing Folder, 2 3/8” Circle Punch, 1 3/4” Circle Punch, Linen Thread, Iridescent Adhesive Backed Discs, Stampin’ Dimensionals

This layout is not my usual style, but I’m challenging myself to mix things up. I added texture with the embossing folder to break up all the solid color elements.

The card base could easily have been one of the component colors, but I favor white card bases. They’re clean, they don’t distract from the elements of the design, and I don’t need to add another inside panel for the message.

BEST.FRIEND.EVER IN COLOR

Here’s another version of the Country Flowers images I colored last week featuring some of the 24-26 In Colors. I think I like the kettle better than the bucket!

  • Color Palette: Basic White, Petunia Pop, Pretty in Pink, Shy Shamrock, Wild Wheat, Memento Black
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, Deckle Rectangle dies, 24-26 In Color DSP, Wild Wheat Textured Ribbon (retired), Stampin’ Blends, Stampin’ Dimensionals

My inspiration was one of the card sketches on page 22 of the 24-25 Annual Catalog. I didn’t follow it exactly but that’s the beauty of a sketch – you can interpret it to suit your needs.

I stamped the sentiment on a narrow strip of card stock and trimmed the ends at an angle. The original piece of card stock was quite long, which allowed me to place it on the focal point panel and lightly mark exactly where I wanted to trim the ends. Sometimes I surprise myself by actually thinking ahead.

Can you keep a secret? I initially colored the leaves with Granny Apple Green, but when I decided to use the color family DSP pack I just colored right over them with Shy Shamrock. And I consider it a minor stroke of genius that I saw the potential for Wild Wheat to create the impression of a brass kettle.

MAY 2024 DIY: ICE CREAM SWIRL BERRIES

It’s May Day! And I’m thinking about SUMMER FRUIT. The Strawberry in the Ice Cream Swirl stamp set has been calling my name for days, and I’ve given it an entire month on my craft desk:

The strawberry isn’t the focal point of the Ice Cream Swirl set, but I noticed it when I was editing my stamps to be current with the new 24-25 Annual Catalog. I’m a big fan of fruit in season, and we get beautiful strawberries from Upcountry Maui this time of year.

I masked the strawberries as I stamped them – I always stamp the middle first! After I colored them with my Blends, I thought it needed a little something more. I tried a bunch of options, but a little bird made me happiest, and you KNOW that’s how I make my decisions.
