RemARKable Stampers Stamp of the Month: Ciao, Baby!

Aloha!  You’re on Maui – at least for a little bit.  If this is your first stop on the RemARKable Stampers Stamp of the Month Club tour for March, then welcome – and I hope you’ll enjoy all the fabulous projects today.

Ciao Baby is a bit of a sleeper – small images designed to be used with either the Petite Curly Lable Sale-a-bration punch or the 7/8 inch Scallop Circle punch.  I thought they would be a great unifying item for a set of notecards.  First up is a card using the Madison Avenue Sale-a-bration set:

MauiStamper RemARKable Tour Ciao Baby

Each card is made using the Note Cards and Envelopes (#107311, 20 cards and envelopes, $5.95).  The Ciao Baby images are stamped and punched with the Petite Curly Label punch, then popped up on a Stampin’ Dimensional.   I kept a uniform color scheme but changed up the stamp set for each card.  The second card features Morning Cup:

Oh, Whale seemed like a perfect fit for the next sentiment:

SOTM3Mar

I originally cut the whale out with the framelit, but decided it wasn’t necessary and ended up just stamping it directly on the front panel.  Have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate clear mount stamps?  Those little waves were simple to line up!

The last card in my set is a little Owly love note using the Aviary set.  Call me crazy, but I just can’t bring myself to put the birds inside the cage.  I like to see them outside and free!!SOTM4aMar

The little heart is just hand-colored, just because I wanted to.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this stop on the tour – time to head off to Robin‘s studio!

Care for a little Espresso with that?

What could be more delicious than Cherry Cobbler combined with a little Espresso?

Fast and Fabulous with Aviary

  • Fast and Fabulous, Aviary, Vintage Vogue and Fabulous Phrases stamp sets
  • Whisper White, Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler card stock
  • Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler Classic ink pads
  • Cherry Cobbler ink refill and the Aqua Painter
  • Whisper White Taffeta and Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding
  • Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint

The photo doesn’t pick up the shimmer paint, but it’s applied over the little red bird in the cage.  You just can’t beat shimmer paint for quick and easy sparkle that doesn’t violate the No Glitter Here Treaty.  I’m big on quick and easy, although I’ve been known to do some kind of ridiculous detailing from time to time.   This time of year the focus is on completion!

Speaking of completion, today is The Last Day of the Stampin’ Up! Online Spectacular.  If you haven’t placed your order yet – and saved up to 50% on some very cool products – head on over to my Online Store and check out the savings!  Everything goes back to regular prices on December First – and Hawaii folks, pay attention – that’s December First Mountain Standard Time!  Get your orders in by 8pm locally to be safe.

Whoo’s watching?

Look at these eyes:

An Owl in a Cage

  • Aviary and Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp sets
  • So Saffron, Whisper White, Pear Pizazz and Night of Navy card stock
  • Greenhouse Gala Designer Series paper
  • Basic Grey and Night of Navy Classic ink pads; Basic Gray Stampin’ Write marker
  • 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 inch circle, Scallop Trim, Word Window and Modern Label punches
  • Night of Navy 1/4 inch grosgrain (retired) and Rhinestone Jewels

I finally put a bird inside the cage…the owl, to be exact.  There’s something about leaving him inside that makes me sort of sad.   After all, shouldn’t an owl be flying around outside?  I’m imagining that he’s been hurt and someone is lovingly caring for him until he can be released.  He’s really quite happy there – he feels secure.

While we’re on the subject of Halloween…

This was one of those projects that sits around for a while and gathers dust while I decide what to do with it.  The final touch was the tree and since my favorite Branch Out stamp set is RETIRED, of all things, I had to wait for Crystal to come by with Season of Friendship so I could use that tree:

Owlie by the light of the moon

  • Aviary, Season of Friendship, Wonderfully Worn and Paisley Prints stamp sets
  • Paisley Party Stampin’ Around Wheel
  • Tangerine Tango, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Whisper White and Shimmer White card stock
  • Crumb Cake, Tangerine Tango, Old Olive, River Rock and Early Espresso classic ink pads
  • Cajun Craze  and Old Olive Stampin’ Write marker
  • Linen Thread, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Sponges  and 1 1/4 inch circle punch

The moon is Shimmer paper sponged with Old Olive…or it might have been River Rock, I can’t exactly remember.  I added the tree after the card was all finished, and I was terrified to stamp directly on the card even WITH a Stamp-a-ma-jig.  I ended up stamping the image on a piece of scrap copy paper (it needs to be thin paper) and cutting the image out carefully.  That left me with a negative image of the tree that I temporarily put in place over the card with Dotto repositionable adhesive.  I very carefully sponged through the copy paper template to put the tree exactly where I wanted it.  Pretty sneaky, huh?

I have to try a couple more like this.  I really like the effeect of that sponged tree.  In all honesty, there’s no way I would have been able to do this with those gorgeous spidery branches on my Branch Out tree.  Season of Friendship finally wins.

Lots of Bitty Birds

This was the set that made my eyes roll back in my head the first time I looked through the new 2010-2011 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog.  I immediately thought of my friend Cheryl and her mud room.  She used to live 5 minutes from my house, but this past spring she moved 50 minutes away.  One of her projects in her new house was an entry room with a gorgeous saltillo tile floor and not much else.  She wanted to make it into the Bird Room, and she hostessed a pretty awesome workshop last spring so that she could earn the Level III Bird Cage Decor Elements Hostess gift.

  • Aviary and On a Pedestal stamp sets
  • Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Poppy Parade, and Whisper White card stock
  • Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Poppy Parade and Basic Grey Classic ink pads
  • Big Shot and Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Embossing Folder
  • Stamp-a-ma-jig, Stampin’ Dimensionals and Mini Library clips

I made a mask using a Post-It note of the bird with the shortest legs and the top part of the bird cage.  I stamped the bird first, then masked it and stamped the cage part.  I left the bird mask in place and added the mask for the cage before I stamped the stand.  The “legs” on that stand are really long!  I didn’t need such a tall bird cage.

That new Elegant Lines Embossing folder is really gorgeous.  I hated to cover it up with the image, but I’m not quite ready to post a card with nothing but a little embossing on it.  That’s Clean and Simple style to the extreme!  I’ll be honest, though, I think it would make a gorgeous card.  Well, you might have to give it a little sparkle with some Shimmer Paint.

Our new Color Families are helping me to see color in completely new ways.  Tempting Turquoise hasn’t been much of a favorite for me, but when I see it grouped with the other colors in the Brights Collection it inspires me.  It’s refreshing to see something familiar with new eyes, and I like the energy I’m experiencing when I look through our new Color Collection.
