COUNTRY FLORAL with COLOR and CONTOUR

Happy Valentines Day, my crafty friends! I have one more Valentine for you using the Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper. This time I’ve paired it with the Color and Contour stamp set. It’s an older set so you might have it – you could whip this card up this afternoon for last minute giving! (Well. Assuming you have nothing else that is demanding of your time. Quite the assumption.)

  • Stamps: Color and Contour, Country Bouquet, Friendly Gnomes
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Petal Pink, Sweet Sorbet, Daffodil Delight, Balmy Blue
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Scalloped Contour dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Stylish Shapes dies, Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper, Stampin’ Blends, White Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals

You might have seen versions 1 and 2 of this card a few days ago in THIS post. The change in DSP makes a big difference – there’s a lot of (Balmy) Blue in this version and it just FEELS different. Gotta love our DSP.

I keep a stash of pre-cut Basic White panels measuring 4″ x 5 1/4″ next to my primary work space. All of my cards have an interior white panel, even if they’re a lighter color. I like the crisp look of that white panel on the interior, and I think it’s a beautiful finishing touch. It makes any interior stamping stand out as well.

To borrow a concept, I did a Love It Chop It move on this entire pack of DSP. I don’t always love EVERY design in a package, but I sure loved Floral Bouquet! It’s a great balance of large and small, monochromatic and colorful designs with very appealing colors. You might just need to get yourself a package to see.

There’s still time! You can make someone’s day a little brighter doing something you love! Give a Valentine or two to someone who won’t be expecting one. ❤️ And Happy Valentines Day from the Maui Stamper 😘

COUNTRY BOUQUET VALENTINE

It’s nearly Valentines Day, my crafty friends! I’ve combined the Happiness Abounds bundle with the Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper to create a pair of sweet Valentines. Check your stash of stamps and papers, because I’ll bet you have the supplies to make this card. (If you don’t, hurry off to the Online Store.)

  • Stamps: Happiness Abounds, Country Bouquet, Friendly Gnomes
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Petal Pink, Sweet Sorbet, Daffodil Delight, Mint Macaron
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Blossoming Happiness dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Stylish Shapes dies, Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper, Stampin’ Blends, White Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals

The colors in this paper are perfect for Valentines, but they don’t insist on it. This could be a Valentine, a birthday card, a girlfriend card, or a just-because-you’re-so-amazing card. I need to send more of those. I made this one a Valentine, and the “Love You” sentiment comes from Friendly Gnomes – that’s all I used from the set.

One of the delights of our DSP is that the colors, patterns and designs are so easy to mix and match. I flipped things around a bit, and colored the Happiness Abounds flowers with Sweet Sorbet instead of Petal Pink. One design will give you a lot of cards.

It helps to think out your panel sizes before you start cutting. 😉 Our 12 x 12 DSP yields 6 panels measuring 4″ wide and 5 1/4″ tall if you cut carefully. That’s a perfect card front layer, and you’ll still have a nice 1 1/2″ x 12″ strip to play with.

This is a standard 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base with that 4″ x 5 1/4″ DSP layer. The smaller DSP panel is cut from the 4th Stitched Rectangle die (counting from largest down to smallest) and the card stock behind it is 2 3/4″ x 4 1/8″. You can do this!!

Whether you choose this design or one of your own, a paper Valentine sent through the mail is a message of love. You can make someone’s day a little brighter doing something you love! Send a Valentine or two to someone who won’t be expecting one. ❤️

GNOMES, GNOMES AND MORE GNOMES!

The collective name for a gathering of gnomes is a Donsy, and I created a doozy of a Donsy with the Kindest Gnomes stamps and dies!

  • Stamps: Kindest Gnomes, Penguin Place, Peaceful Deer
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay, Sweet Sorbet, and a few random bits
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Gnome Dies, Storybook Gnomes DSP, Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder, Stitched Rectangles dies, Stylish Shapes dies, Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Wink of Stella, Stampin’ Dimensionals

There are bits and pieces of other DSP and papers in all the variations – if you desperately need to know what something is, leave me a comment. I assembled the gnomes with Tombo Multipurpose Glue and then adhered them to the embossed circles with Stampin’ Dimensionals. This was creative matching at its finest!

These cards got a little dusting of Bermuda Bay snowflakes inside. They’re my cards, and I get to choose the colors! Besides, who knows what color it would snow if it snowed on Maui?

I used different sheets of the Storybook Gnomes DSP and mixed and matched hats and feet (and a few noses, too!) to come up with a Gnome Squad of cards. The message from Penguin Place had serious gnome vibes, but I used a few traditional Merry Christmas sentiments as well. Do you have a favorite?

I kinda like the guy in the middle. He has serious middle earth vibes. If you’re still holding out on the gnomes, do yourself a favor. Check out the Gnomes HERE.

Thanks: Plentiful Plants

I needed a few thank you cards and found this great layout using our Designer Series paper. I have (ahem) “some” DSP that needs to be used, and I love the pop of color with Basic White:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Plentiful Plants Poinsettia Dies You Touched My Heart
  • Stamps: Plentiful Plants
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Shaded Spruce
  • Accessories: Shimmer White paper, Retired DSP (and sorry, NO IDEA, it was one of the bits), Big Boss, Stitched Rectangle dies, Poinsettia dies, Messages die, Tasteful Textile embossing folder, White Crinkle seam binding, Stampin Dimensionals
Maui Stamper Stampin Up Plentiful Plants Poinsettia Dies You Touched My Heart

You might have noticed there aren’t any stamped plants. The sentiment is from Plentiful Plants, but all that white-on-white “greenery” is from the Poinsettia dies. I’ve been trying to use up all the bits that are floating around on my craft desk, and it’s a challenge. Apparently in order to use up the bits, I need to create a few more to coordinate with them. Net result? MORE BITS.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Plentiful Plants Poinsettia Dies You Touched My Heart

How are you using up your bits? Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who keeps them. I’m trying to edit, use, and share them to clear my brain and my space, but it’s going slowly I’m afraid.

a new way to say ALOHA

I’ve had an idea I’ve been pondering for a while, and recently I spent some time working with it. I tried a number of variations, and I’m not sure I’ve got it yet. I hope if you look at this long enough, you’ll see the word ALOHA. This isn’t my original idea: you see this done all over the islands in wood blocks and printed on bumper stickers. I wanted to translate it to paper, and it proved more challenging than I expected.

  • Stamps: None!
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Highland Heather, Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Bermuda Bay
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Stitched Rectangle dies, Stitched Triangle dies, Stitched Circle dies (retired)

I created this as a slimline card in order to have space for the letters, but it seemed a little boring, so I started to play:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Aloha handmade card

I went back to the 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ format for this version, and created a background using the Alcohol Ink technique. I did it on a vellum layer, which gives those bold colors a softer look.

Next I pulled out my Timeless Tropical stamps and created a bold background with Daffodil Delight and the hibiscus image:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Aloha handmade card

On a roll, I used the palm tree (also from Timeless Tropical) in Granny Apply Green:

Honestly, I think it looks really crowded in 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, and I might give it a try with a custom card size and a handmade envelope. It’s a fun concept, but I think it still needs work. What do you think? Different size? Different background? What else?

Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper

We don’t see many traditional fall colors on Maui, but nevertheless I’ve fallen in love with Beauty of the Earth Designer Series paper. It conveys a feeling of autumn without having a strong regional sense, and the colors are so warm and inviting.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Beauty of the Earth DSP Forever Flourishing Dies handmade card
  • Stamps: Forever Fern, Art Gallery
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Garden Green, Merry Merlot, Pumpkin Pie
  • Accessories: Copper Foil sheets, Big Boss, Forever Flourishing dies, Scalloped Contour dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Blending Brush, Linen Thread, Stampin Dimensionals

Beauty of the Earth is a stunning pack of autumn colored Designer Series papers. While it’s designed to coordinate with the Beauty of Friendship bundle, I’ve found it works wonderfully with many different stamps and dies. I had a hunch that the Copper Foil sheets would really shine (lol) as a focal point with this design.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Beauty of the Earth DSP Forever Flourishing Dies handmade card

I did a second version with a different paper from the same Designer Series paper assortment. I kept it simpler with fewer layers and a little spritz created by flicking my markers. I love the dash of Night of Navy in this paper – it’s not 100% realism, but sometimes I need a break from reality.

Stampin’ Blends and the Alcohol Technique

I spent a marvelous afternoon a couple of weeks ago playing with Stampin’ Blends and the alcohol technique in Crystal’s Stampin’ Garage. It took a few tries to get the hang of it, but once we got over that bump we couldn’t stop. All you really need are Stampin’ Blends, vellum, a small paintbrush, and 91% rubbing alcohol.

(Who knew 91% Rubbing Alcohol was so hard to find? Thanks, Covid.)

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Stampin Blends Alcohol Technique Happy Birthday card
  • Stamps: Art Gallery
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Misty Moonlight, Garden Green, Balmy Blue
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Stitched Rectangle dies, Forever Flourishing dies, Poinsettia dies, vellum card stock, 91% rubbing alcohol, small paint brush, small dropper, Stampin’ Spritzer, Stampin’ Dimensionals

You need a non-porous paper like vellum for this technique to work. It’s pretty simple: add color with Stampin’ Blends in any pattern you like. Use 91% rubbing alcohol to reactivate the ink and gently move it around, color by color. Finally, add interest by dripping the alcohol with a small dropper, the Stampin’ Spritzer, or the flick of your paintbrush.

I chose to add these leafy elements, but some of my results needed nothing more than a sentiment. I learned that I like more monochromatic combinations, especially blues and greens. (HUGE surprise there, eh?)

You’re A Peach and Biggest Wish Birthday

Birthday cards mean a lot to me. Of course I love to get them, but let’s face it: that’s once a year. Rather, I love to send them. Most of us get so little personal mail anymore, so I like to be a little bit of sunshine in someone’s mailbox. As a result, I make a LOT of birthday cards!

Maui Stamper Stampin Up You're A Peach Biggest Wish Birthday
  • Stamps: Biggest Wish
  • Color Palette: Petal Pink, Basic White, Calypso Coral
  • Accessories: You’re A Peach Designer Series Paper (on sale til August 2!), Big Boss, Stitched Rectangle dies, Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon, Pearl jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals, staple

The You’re A Peach DSP is a stunner!! And it’s on sale (along with 8 other collections) through August 2nd. Every single piece of this paper is gorgeous, and the designs on the “B” side are beautiful, versatile monochromatic prints that make great accent elements on a card. It’s a perfect summertime paper, even if you choose to get it without the coordinating Sweet as a Peach bundle. (But why would you?)

I had a narrow strip left over when I cut my panel for the front of the card, so I used it along the bottom of the inside of the card. Little extras like this are what set apart a hand-made card, and this one is easy as can be. Card base, DSP, one die cut with a sentiment, a couple sticky jewels and a stapled ribbon! I choose to line the inside of every card with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White panel unless the card base is Basic White. I prefer the finished look that extra step provides, and it literally costs just pennies.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up You're A Peach Biggest Wish Birthday

When you have paper this gorgeous, you can create beautiful cards and have them in the mail before breakfast! (NOT BEFORE COFFEE. BEFORE BREAKFAST.) Every design in the You’re a Peach pack will give you these results, and if you add in the versatile Biggest Wish stamp set, you could have a month’s worth of cards with a quick morning’s work. Ready to get started? Shop HERE.

Hand-Penned Petals and Stampin’ Blends

I need to practice my coloring skills with Stampin’ Blends, so I produced a handful of images from Hand-Penned Petals and got to work. To my delight, this image is a PERFECT image for the purpose! Not too big, not too small, not too complex – it’s just right. Here’s what I did with the results:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Hand Penned Petals handmade card
  • Stamps: Hand-Penned Petals
  • Color Palette: Pale Papaya, Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Basic White, Memento Black
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Penned Flowers dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, 21-23 In Color DSP 6×6 pack, White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon, Stampin Dimensionals, Champagne Rhinestones

Today’s serendipity: The Champagne Rhinestones are a FABULOUS match with Pale Papaya! (Forgive me shouting, please.)

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Hand Penned Petals handmade card

The White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon is my favorite. When tied, it’s still soft enough to slip through the USPS without extra postage. You can add color with Stampin’ Blends. And it’s just so pretty! It’s part of my Must Have Stash.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Hand Penned Petals handmade card

My technique with Stampin’ Blends is pretty simple. I start with an overall light blend wash, then add the deeper tones and go back with the light tone to do the blending. I use the shading marks in the stamp to guide me, but I don’t have a sophisticated system for dark/light placement. Learning that is on my to-do list <wink>

The Hand Penned stamps and dies are available in a bundle, saving you precious crafting dollars! Stop by the Online Store to get yours today.

Hand-Penned Petals and a DIY background

I did my best to create a simple card, using one stamp set and just the Big Boss and some dies. It’s not an absolute beginner card, but it’s an easy one to re-create. I’d love it if you gave it a go:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Hand-Penned Petals hand-stamped card DIY
  • Stamps: Hand-Penned Petals
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Memento Black, Pear Pizazz, BumbleBee
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Stitched Rectangle dies, Penned Flowers dies, Stampin Dimensionals

My technique was VERY simple. I stamped the focal point with Memento Black ink on a piece of Basic White and stamped the flowers and petals each twice without re-inking (that’s what creates that lighter color layer particularly visible on the flowers). Then I inked the focal point in Pear Pizazz and lightly stamped it off on a scrap, then stamped it onto my Basic White Stitched Rectangle (that technique is called stamping off). I repeated that process until my background was sufficiently filled, stamped the sentiment right on top of it with Memento Black, and positioned the focal point with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Hand-Penned Petals hand-stamped card DIY

Sooo…about the inside. It’s a special double panel inside. It didn’t start out that way, but when I opened the card to add the panel, I placed it on my craft table upside down, so the panel was on the wrong side. I tried to lift it, but oh no, I did a good job of pressing my Stampin’ Seal in place and it wasn’t going ANYWHERE. So I made this a double panel card.

Tell me you’ve never done that.

The Hand-Penned bundle is a great beginner set. The images can be hand colored, or stamped with our Two Step Stampin’ process to be quick and easy. Shop for it HERE.
