SLICE AND SLIDE FUN FOLD: FRUIT SALAD

Fruit Salad Designer Series Paper has the perfect set of patterns for this clever fun fold card. You’ll have so much fun mixing and matching designs!

  • Stamps: Spotlight on Nature, Everyday Greetings, Greetings of the Season
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Coastal Cabana, Old Olive, Pecan Pie
  • Accessories: Fruit Salad Designer Series paper (SAB ’25), Paper Trimmer, Water Painter, 24-26 In Color Shimmer Gems, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I love the leaves from Spotlight on Nature. They’re elegant enough to stand alone, but they are subtle enough to work as a background. I used a Water Painter to blur the ink a bit after I stamped them.

This card is a direct CASE from one of Rachel Tessman’s Mystery Stamping events. Follow the link for detailed instructions, but the basic concept is to measure halfway down the right side of the front panel of the card and cut a diagonal piece to the lower left corner. That piece is rotated up the left side of the card, forming an asymetrical card front. Measure coordinating pieces of Designer Series Paper (Fruit Salad, in this case) to layer the card front and the rotated piece. Add a sentiment panel over the assembled card front and embellish.

These are absolutely addictive to make! The possibilities are endless, and the DSP is the star of the show. I may or may not have a somewhat excessive collection of DSP that needs to be used ASAP, and I’ve been slicing and sliding for a few days.

Rachel has very detailed instructions, so head over to her post if you need more specifics. If you need DSP, (come ON, you know you do), shop the Online Store. Be sure you take a good look at Fruit Salad, available for free with a qualifying order during Sale-a-bration 2025.

June 2022 DIY: A Sparkling Moon

The Floating Sunset technique is reappearing today as the Sparkling Moon for the 2022 June DIY Easel calendar! I have a lot of ideas in my head for this technique – it’s fun, it’s easy, it uses scraps, and I love the result.

June calendar with a three quarter circle and background of stars
  • Stamps: Sparkle of the Season
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Tranquil Tide for mat (retired In Color)
  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, window sheets, layering circle dies, watercolor paper, water painter, ink refill, Wink of Stella, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Trust me, the Stella is there and it is very sparkly. I had some odd-size pieces of watercolor paper left over from the Floating Sunset cards, so I watercolored them with Bermuda Bay ink refills and cut them into strips. I started with a pretty dilute solution and added more drops of ink as I went along, but you could just as easily start with a stronger solution and dilute it with water as you work.

This technique has my mind spinning: I’m going to try it with Designer Series Paper next. So many options!

Flowers of Friendship: July 2021 DIY Calendar

Flowers of Friendship is a brand new stamp-and-punch bundle in the 2021-2022 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog and it caught my eye the moment I turned the page. This wasn’t my vision at that moment, but as I thought about my July calendar I imagined these bright colors:

  • Stamps: Flowers of Friendship, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Daffodil Delight, Highland Heather, Polished Pink
  • Accessories: Flowers and Leaves punch, Playing with Patterns Resin Dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Water Painter, Ink refill

I chose to watercolor these flowers. I would have gotten different results had I thought to stamp and punch them from watercolor paper, but that’s not what happened today. You see, I’ve embarked on a massive project: I am giving my craft room the full KonMari. As a result, crafting has taken a bit of a back seat, and crafting supplies are no longer where they used to be.

I removed EVERYTHING from the craft room and heaped it in the hallway and the bedroom across the hall. Once everything was out I cleaned (massive clouds of cat hair, UGH.) There was also an astonishing amount of adhesive stuck to everything: countertops, floors, cabinets, you name it. Apparently when I get tired I throw glue dots at the wall! Slowly but surely I have been returning things with intention. I haven’t exactly used the “spark joy” technique, but I am being very discriminating about what goes back, and I’m thinking carefully about where things go. I’ve been at this for nearly 2 weeks and I’m not done.

The good news is that today I’ve made something, and that means that at least some things are where they belong! It’s quite satisfying to work in an orderly space – the chaos has been very discouraging.

And oh, did I love working with these summery colors! This flower reminds me of clematis, although I’ve never seen a vine with all of these colors. The July calendar will be a joy to see all month long.
