You can double up Basic White card stock and cut two layers at once if you have fresh cutting pads. With two sets of dies, that means I can cut four at a time.

These are super simple by design. Sure, you could fussy cut BELIEVE because it’s mostly straight lines. You could emboss the stars and add bling, too. But this is simple stamping in its most pure form and when you’re busy, busy, busy, it’s the difference between imagined and done.

NOVEMBER 2022 DIY: Flowers of Home

This month it’s more die cuts and less stamping. When you’re only making one of something, all that cranking of the Big Boss isn’t such a big deal:

  • Stamps: Peaceful Deer (sentiment)
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Old Olive, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Soft Suede, Pear Pizazz, Pumpkin Pie
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Flowers of Home dies, Textural Elements, Stampin’ Write markers, Linen Thread, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I colored the Textural Elements (currently unavailable, expected this week) with Stampin’ Write markers. I used Pumpkin Pie for the “berries” and added just a touch of Cajun Craze to them at the stem. The stems themselves are Old Olive (as much as I love so many other greens, Old Olive is my go-to green!)

I cut a BUNCH of these little branch-bits and started playing. It’s a good thing I cut a lot: I accidentally adhered the first round to the wrong calendar. It looked great, but nope. Calendar so nice, I made it twice.

It’s hard to believe today is November 1st. That means the official end of hurricane season (yay!), but we’re still waiting for the weather to turn a little cooler. Soon the humpback whales will arrive from Alaska, and we’ll watch – and listen – for them. Did you know if you go into the ocean during whale season and put your head underwater you’re likely to hear them sing? Well, now you do.

I took a chance and stamped the pumpkin with Cajun Craze ink. We recommend Memento to work with Stampin’ Blends because it doesn’t run, so I had to be careful not to overdo my brush strokes over the stamped portion of the image. I was feeling a little rebellious 😉

I inked up the leaves and then stamped them off. I chose the ones I liked best to die cut and added them with the swirly bits. The pumpkin is on dimensionals, and a few gems add some sparkle.

I began with Daffodil in the belly of the pumpkin to get that warm glow, then worked my way out with Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze. This is a very satisfying image to color – I recommend it!

A Cauldron of Bats: Design a Treat Box Dies

Those Amber Gems from the Rustic Harvest Suite give the perfect spooky stare, don’t they? And that cute little tag is not only part of the Design a Treat dies, but there are THREE of them!! And since our Basic White card stock is a little lighter weight than standard card stock, you can cut two at once – which means I was cutting 6 in one crank of the Big Boss!!!

It just so happens that two Hershey Nuggets fit perfectly inside these little boxes. They’re sturdiest when assembled with a little bit of Tear n Tape on the flaps. I experimented with card stock and with dies for the boxes, and while card stock closes more securely across the top, the DSP is much cuter. I cut the batty tops from card stock, and they sit quite firmly across the top, keeping it closed. The advantage of using that batty top is that there’s no adhesive, so the box doesn’t have to be ripped open to enjoy the contents.

I really did make a Cauldron’s worth – this isn’t even half! They’re a single Big Boss cut to produce (run the batty bit at the same time) and they assemble easily. They’re a perfect table favor, office treat, or Halloween decoration. Find them HERE and you’ll have your own Cauldron in a FLASH 💥 (Don’t forget the TnT)

This image was very satisfying to color. I stayed with two tones, yellow and green, but played with shades of green to give those tiny leaves dimension. This is one of those “you can’t do it badly” images!

I combined the two main images from the set to create this package with a bouquet. I also trimmed off the “Enjoy your day” tag and so that I could choose the placement. There isn’t much to keep it attached, so it’s much more secure this way.

June 2022 DIY: A Sparkling Moon

The Floating Sunset technique is reappearing today as the Sparkling Moon for the 2022 June DIY Easel calendar! I have a lot of ideas in my head for this technique – it’s fun, it’s easy, it uses scraps, and I love the result.

  • Accessories: Stamp Cut and Emboss Machine, window sheets, layering circle dies, watercolor paper, water painter, ink refill, Wink of Stella, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Trust me, the Stella is there and it is very sparkly. I had some odd-size pieces of watercolor paper left over from the Floating Sunset cards, so I watercolored them with Bermuda Bay ink refills and cut them into strips. I started with a pretty dilute solution and added more drops of ink as I went along, but you could just as easily start with a stronger solution and dilute it with water as you work.

This technique has my mind spinning: I’m going to try it with Designer Series Paper next. So many options!

My Stampin’ Up! Box o’ Goodies arrived last week, and I’ve spent this weekend playing. My first tasks was to create some goodies for Maui Stampers teammates who are attending a virtual event together the end of the month. It was a perfect opportunity to try out the 22-24 In Colors:

  • Stamps: Nature’s Prints*
  • Color Palette: Parakeet Party*, Orchid Opulence*, Starry Sky*, Basic White
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Stylish Shapes* dies, Tear n Tape

I came up with this modified matchbook design for a sticky note cover to make it a little easier to open and close – at least, I think so!

That Parakeet Party 1/2″ band slides up and down on the bottom flap to create a closure around the top flap. The new stitched square from the Stylish Shapes dies (oh, will I use these!!) fits perfectly on the top.

You can just barely see that band in the closed position underneath the Stylish Shapes Square.
