Thankful Friends and Aspen Tree dies

I love trees. There were beautiful aspens growing outside my first apartment in college and this beautiful Aspen Tree die cut brings back memories of standing on the second floor deck, studying their intricate bark. (I know the leaf doesn’t match, I’m claiming artistic license.)

  • Stamps: Framed Occasions, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Starry Sky, Soft Suede
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Aspen Tree Dies, Fall Leaves and Amber Gems (back in stock week of 11/7), Blending Brushes, Daubers, Linen Thread

The clean edges of the die cut trees contrast well with the soft coloring achieved with daubers and the Blending Brush. Starry Sky is a perfect choice for a twilight sky behind the trees, and the little “dits” from Forever Fern suggest distant constellations.

I cut a stack of these Aspen Trees and keep finding new ways to style them. Gnomes, reindeer, birds, even Santa in a sleigh cutting across the sky would all work here, and in the spring, washes of rhododendron could fill the bottom half of the back panel. But don’t wait til spring, these dies are from the July December mini catalog – you need them now! Shop HERE.

Hues of Happiness and the Fussy Cut

Some crafters detest fussy cutting, others find it relaxing. I find myself somewhere in the middle: I can usually do enough fussy cutting for one project, but then I am DONE. The Hues of Happiness Designer Series paper practically begs to be fussy cut.

#mauistamper #stampinup #huesofhappiness #diy #handmadecard #fussycut #birthday #timeworntype
  • Stamps: Go To Greetings, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Gorgeous Grape, Melon Mambo
  • Accessories: Hues of Happiness DSP, Paper Snips, Big Boss, Timeworn Type EF, Gold Shimmer Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals

There’s a little secret buried on this card front: some of these elements are not complete flowers. Images on the edge of the paper can still be trimmed and overlapped, providing even more options when you fussy cut!

I’m revisiting a favorite old technique here. I’ve used the edge of my snips to fray the edges of my card stock. It’s a way of setting the sentiment apart while allowing me to cut the exact size of paper I need.

This is an old fashioned feeling card, but it has a richness to it as well. The Hues of Happiness DSP has so many uses – you might just need to add it to your craft stash. See all the beautiful designs HERE.

A Pair of Dragonflies

I had some squares of the most gorgeous Designer Series paper left over from a project, and I couldn’t bear to waste them. I lined them up with a dragonfly, and the resulting card is very pretty, if I do say so myself:

a white card with 3 soft green squares and a dragonfly
  • Stamps: Dragonfly Garden, Go To Greetings, Forever Fern
  • Color palette: Basic White, Mint Macaron, Soft Succulent, Soft Sea Foam
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Deckled Rectangles Dies*, Splendid Day DSP*, Dragonfly Punch, Blending Brushes, 1 1/2″ Metallic Mesh Ribbon, Stampin’ Blends, Stampin’ Dimensionals

*There are a couple of July-December 22 Mini Catalog sneak peeks here, but it’s almost July 1!

The Deckled Rectangle dies are never going to leave my craft desk. I am head-over-heels with these dies! They offer a rustic elegance we haven’t had before, and I am smitten.

A white card with patterned paper squares and a dragonfly

A card so nice I made it twice! This one is a little plain, but that’s intentional. It has the potential to be a sympathy card should I need one, so I’ve left it simple and without a greeting.

a white card with 3 squares of pattern paper and a

I made a custom envelope for each card with the DSP on the flap. If you’ve got a few squares of luscious DSP on your craft desk, give this a try – you could substitute for the dragonfly if that’s not part of your stash. The main thing is to have a little fun – and then go shopping HERE.

MAY 2022 DIY: Lovely You

I’m conflicted: do I show you Last Chance stamps that I’ll really miss, or new 22-23 goodies I can’t wait to share?? What if I can do both things??

  • Stamps: Lovely You (Last Chance), Here Together, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Orchid Oasis, Polished Pink, Parakeet Party, Daffodil Delight
  • Accessories: Masking paper

TRUTH: Masking paper is coming in the 22-23 Annual Catalog and I cannot wait to get my hands on it, but it was not available for pre-order. It will be on my first order, though!! I used a sticky note in this case, but one of the advantages of masking paper is that it adheres on all edges. Stand by for updates!

Beauty of the Earth in a Fun Fold

Cheryl, one of my Stampin’ BFFs, shared this fold with me. At the moment she did, I had Beauty of the Earth DSP on my craft desk and knew immediately what I wanted to do. I absolutely love the way these two designs work together, and I’m quite pleased with the end result:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Beauty of the Earth DSP Fun Fold handmade card
  • Stamps: Peaceful Moments (my absolute fave sentiment set!), Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Crushed Curry, Mossy Meadow
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Painted Labels dies, Stitched So Sweetly dies, Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper, Champagne Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals

This is a design called Double Dutch Door. It’s very simple, but the cutting takes a little time and precision. When you remove the belly band, the top panel opens upward, and there are 2 mini panels at the bottom that open out to the sides.

You can customize this one to your heart’s delight! I used both Mossy Meadow and Crushed Curry ink on the Forever Fern images – I just dunked the bottom half in one color and the top half in the other. You could call that a specific technique, or you could just call it lazy 😁

I’ve been making more of an effort to embellish my envelopes. Most often I add a layer of Designer Series paper to the flap, which would have been a great choice with this one, but I chose to use my “dunking” technique with the leaves instead. Do you embellish your envelopes? It doesn’t take much time at all – you just need to remember to do it.

There’s an entire suite called Beauty of the Earth. I chose to use just the paper for this project, but there’s a lot of inspiration in the Suite!

Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper

We don’t see many traditional fall colors on Maui, but nevertheless I’ve fallen in love with Beauty of the Earth Designer Series paper. It conveys a feeling of autumn without having a strong regional sense, and the colors are so warm and inviting.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Beauty of the Earth DSP Forever Flourishing Dies handmade card
  • Stamps: Forever Fern, Art Gallery
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Garden Green, Merry Merlot, Pumpkin Pie
  • Accessories: Copper Foil sheets, Big Boss, Forever Flourishing dies, Scalloped Contour dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Blending Brush, Linen Thread, Stampin Dimensionals

Beauty of the Earth is a stunning pack of autumn colored Designer Series papers. While it’s designed to coordinate with the Beauty of Friendship bundle, I’ve found it works wonderfully with many different stamps and dies. I had a hunch that the Copper Foil sheets would really shine (lol) as a focal point with this design.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Beauty of the Earth DSP Forever Flourishing Dies handmade card

I did a second version with a different paper from the same Designer Series paper assortment. I kept it simpler with fewer layers and a little spritz created by flicking my markers. I love the dash of Night of Navy in this paper – it’s not 100% realism, but sometimes I need a break from reality.

Flowers of Friendship: the Golden Poppy Version

I grew up in California, and the state flower, the California Golden Poppy, is an evocative memory of home. This image in the Flowers of Friendship set reminded me of those beautiful golden fields.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Flowers of Friendship Square Card
  • Stamps: Flowers of Friendship, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Crushed Curry, Basic White
  • Accessories: Flowers & Leaves punch, Hand Penned Designer Series paper, White 1/4″ Crinkle Seam Binding, Granny Apple Green dark Stampin’ Blend, Stampin’ Write markers, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Most people think of poppies as, well, poppy-colored, but California Poppies also grow in a glorious shade of yellow. I used Crushed Curry for the outline image of the flower (I used Stampin’ Write markers direct to the stamp) in order to make the petals more defined.

I colored the White 1/4″ Crinkle Seam Binding with my Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend. I was prepared to wait a bit to be sure the ink was dry, but between the soft, lightweight ribbon and the magic of alcohol markers, the ribbon was dry and ready to add immediately. I hope we *always* have White 1/4″ Crinkle Seam Binding!!!

I also fussy cut parts of each flower to layer them and add more dimension. The shapes are simple, so it’s not really fussy cutting – more like snip-snip-cutting!

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Flowers of Friendship Square Card

I left the sentiment off this card, as I often do, so that I can customize it when I’m ready to send it. I’ll create a custom square envelope with coordinating DSP and add the extra postage to be sure it arrives. If you make your card a 4 1/4″ square, you can put it in our standard envelope and send it for the regular one ounce USPS rate.

This set is another great option for quick and easy cards. The images are simple to color, and the coordinating punch makes it easy to add a layer. Shop HERE to add it to your crafty stash!

Just 5 more days in the DSP sale! Save 15% on these gorgeous papers – you’ll be so glad you did.

Flowers of Friendship: July 2021 DIY Calendar

Flowers of Friendship is a brand new stamp-and-punch bundle in the 2021-2022 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog and it caught my eye the moment I turned the page. This wasn’t my vision at that moment, but as I thought about my July calendar I imagined these bright colors:

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Flowers of Friendship DIY Easel Calendar July 2021
  • Stamps: Flowers of Friendship, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Daffodil Delight, Highland Heather, Polished Pink
  • Accessories: Flowers and Leaves punch, Playing with Patterns Resin Dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Water Painter, Ink refill

I chose to watercolor these flowers. I would have gotten different results had I thought to stamp and punch them from watercolor paper, but that’s not what happened today. You see, I’ve embarked on a massive project: I am giving my craft room the full KonMari. As a result, crafting has taken a bit of a back seat, and crafting supplies are no longer where they used to be.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Empty Craft Room

I removed EVERYTHING from the craft room and heaped it in the hallway and the bedroom across the hall. Once everything was out I cleaned (massive clouds of cat hair, UGH.) There was also an astonishing amount of adhesive stuck to everything: countertops, floors, cabinets, you name it. Apparently when I get tired I throw glue dots at the wall! Slowly but surely I have been returning things with intention. I haven’t exactly used the “spark joy” technique, but I am being very discriminating about what goes back, and I’m thinking carefully about where things go. I’ve been at this for nearly 2 weeks and I’m not done.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Flowers of Friendship DIY Easel Calendar July 2021

The good news is that today I’ve made something, and that means that at least some things are where they belong! It’s quite satisfying to work in an orderly space – the chaos has been very discouraging.

And oh, did I love working with these summery colors! This flower reminds me of clematis, although I’ve never seen a vine with all of these colors. The July calendar will be a joy to see all month long.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Flowers of Friendship DIY Easel Calendar July 2021

If you’re as smitten with Flowers of Friendship as I am, head over to the Online Store. You can purchase select DSP on sale this month while you’re there! And please take a look at the July calendars that Cheryl and Crystal have created this month – I know you’ll be delighted by their talent.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up July 2021 DSP sale

I’ve had a couple of requests for the 2022 DIY template. It will be available late this summer or in the early fall. I’ll be sure to let you know here, and if you’ve purchased in the past, you’ll get an email to notify you it’s ready for sale.

An afternoon with Forever Fern

I’m a keeper. I keep stuff – bits and bobs, odds and ends – because I just know I’ll need it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. But I’ve had an assortment of die cut Forever Fern pieces in multiple shades of greens in my collection for months, and Today Was Their Day.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Forever Fern Monochromatic card
  • Stamps: Forever Fern, Itty Bitty Greetings (retiring May 3)
  • Color Palette: Basic White, Garden Green
  • Accessories: Big Boss, Forever Flourishing Dies, Layering Squares dies, Stampin Dimensionals

This card layout is a CASE (Copy And Share with Everyone) of a card I spotted in the new 2021-2022 Annual Catalog. Yes, I’m sure you’ve heard – demonstrators get an advanced copy of the catalog, and this one is going to rock your world!

The retiring Layering Squares dies aren’t absolutely essential, since it’s pretty easy to cut a square. That said, how easy is it to cut 4 squares EXACTLY the same size?? I’ll be keeping this set of dies for certain.

I made a BUNCH of these in a relatively short period of time because I had all of these bits!! Each card turned out a little differently because I was having such a good time orienting the branches. Tell me what you think:

Big Boss, Forever Flourishing Dies, Layering Squares dies

This one is in Old Olive. I think this one was the first one I did.

Big Boss, Forever Flourishing Dies, Layering Squares dies

Next I used the retiring Pretty Peacock In Color from 2019-2021. I’m really going to miss this shade, as it’s one of my favorites, not just for crafting but in Real Life.

This is Pear Pizazz. I had some fun with these branches as I worked them into a bit of a wreath arrangement. I thought about putting something in the center, but I wanted these cards to lean a bit masculine.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Forever Fern Monochromatic birthday card

With this Shaded Spruce version I did the opposite – I worked from the center outward. I’m still a little undecided about this one!

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Forever Fern Monochromaticbirthday card

This is Soft Seafoam, one of my favorite greens. It’s really a versatile tone and definitely lends a more feminine touch to this card layout.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Forever Fern Monochromaticbirthday card

Forever Fern has a great variety of botanical images, but as my friend Heather pointed out, none of them actually appears to be a fern. Go figure.

If you suddenly need the Layering Squares dies, or anything else for that matter, pop on over to the Online Store lickety split! And thanks for stopping by today.

Sigh…Back on Your Feet

You know how it is. An unexpected injury, a surgery you’d hoped wouldn’t be necessary…and there you are, out of your routine and needing more help than you want to request. The Back on Your Feet stamps know how it feels, too, and are the perfect solution to send a little heartfelt commiseration to a friend in need.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Back On Your Feet
  • Stamps: Back on Your Feet, Forever Fern
  • Color Palette: Very Vanilla, Mossy Meadow, Petal Pink, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Basic Grey
  • Accessories: Stampin’ Cut and Emboss (The Boss), Layering Circle dies, Linen Thread, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Blends, very very old and retired printed vellum

The little sprig at the end of the branch looked a lot like the leaves from Forever Fern, and from there it was a very short leap to the printed vellum that has been lurking in my stash since Moses inked a stamp. It may have been an SAB choice, or it may not have, I have no idea – but it was perfect for this project. I colored it with Stampin’ Blends and used it as background.

Maui Stamper Stampin Up Back On Your Feet

Would you look at that face? If that isn’t the face of compassion and sympathy, I can’t tell you what would be.

And make note of this: Sale-a-bration ends next Sunday, February 28th. Don’t miss the chance for free – FREE! – stamps and paper available with your qualifying purchase. Shop HERE.
