Flying Home for the Summer

Ah, I miss those days when May meant my collegians were headed home for a summer with good ole Mom and Dad! (Just to be clear, I DO NOT MISS paying collegiate tuition.)

I’m still trying to use my 2016-2018 In Colors – you’ll see a couple in this project.

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! DIY Easel Calendar May 2018 Flying Home

  • Stamps: Flying Home (Occasions 2018)
  • Color Palette: Whisper White, Sweet Sugarplum (16-18), Smokey Slate, Daffodil Delight, Pear PIzazz, Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo (16-18)
  • Accessories:  Paper Snips, Stampin’ Dimensionals (both sizes), Stampin’ Write Markers, Watercolor Pencils

The bird houses were just a smidge (that is a scientific measurement and it means what it sounds like) too big for the calendar format. After scratching my head for a bit, I came up with the idea of stamping the images in Smokey Slate twice – once on the calendar, and once on a scrap. I fussy cut the houses and lifted them on dimensionals. I was really happy with the way it turned out.

I cut off the rooster weather vane and the little strings on the end of the banner because they were already on the calendar, and they would have been ridiculous to cut out. Even I have my limits.

When you need a Tag: Day Six

If you’ve been waiting for the Git ‘er Done tag, this is your lucky day:

Maui Stamper Stampin' Up! Merry Patterns

  • Stamps: Merry Patterns (Host Exclusive October and November)
  • Color Palette: Whisper White, Basic Black, Old Olive
  • Accessories: Ornate Tag Topper Punch (retired), Merry Little Christmas DSP, Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets, Stampin’ Write Markers

This is punch, stamp, stamp, stick, draw, done! The Merry Patterns stamp set is really easy to align (one of The Very Best Features of photopolymer stamps!) and it’s forgiving if you’re slightly off, too. I made narrow strips of Multipurpose-Adhesive-Sheet-backed DSP and it was super fast to stick them on the bottom of the tag. I used a Stampin’ Write marker to draw lines on either side of the DSP strip instead of layering with card stock – it’s so narrow you don’t even see it.

I did a version of these in Real Red, but I wasn’t quick enough with my camera and they’re all out the door!

Tasty Truck Birthdays

I’m a little behind sending January birthday cards, but when this one arrives I hope I’ll be forgiven my tardiness!

Maui Stamper Tasty Truck Birthday Sale-a-bration 2017

  • Stamps: Tasty Truck (Sale-a-bration 2017)
  • Color Palette:  Whisper White, Basic Grey, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral
  • Accessories: Stampin’ Write Markers, Stampin’ Up! Watercolor pencils, Wink of Stella Clear, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Aqua Painter, A Little Foxy DSP Stack, Bermuda Bay 1/8″ Stitched Ribbon

I had a fabulous time coloring that truck, because I let my creative spirit run free.  Some of it is done with Stampin’ Write markers, some with Stampin’ Up! Colored pencils, some were smoothed with the Aqua Painter, and there’s a liberal dose of Stella adding sparkle to the whole thing!

The Little Foxy DSP is PERFECT behind this truck, and finding it in my stamp room was absolutely serendipitous. (Miraculous, even.)  The DSP inspired this treatment on the inside of the card:

I’m pretty happy with the way this turned out. My creativity needed a boost and this fun stamp set was just the thing to do the job.

It’s RemARKably Halloween!

RemARKable Blog Tour

Welcome to the September version of the RemARKable Blog Tour.  This month I’m featuring the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamps paired with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  It’s cute, it’s fun to color, and it’s quick!

I didn’t have Halloween paper at my fingertips, so I pulled out this starry paper from the Presents and Pinecones Holiday Catalog DSP and used it with the Mini-Treat-Bag thinlits.

The little scarecrow is my favorite to color – I chose watercolors (Ink Refills and the Aquapainter) to achieve a vintage look.  The tag is the same for each of my projects – a Cookie Cutter Halloween punch, a 1 3/4″ Pumpkin Pie card stock circle, a black card stock tag embossed with the Woodland TIEF, and a vellum “washi” cut from the Mini-Treat-Bag thinlits set and stamped with Happy Halloween from Teeny Tiny Wishes, one of my crafting workhorses!

This little vampire isn’t very scary, and he’s easy to color with Stampin’ Write markers (Rich Razzleberry and Pear Pizazz).  He tops a treat bag made with the Gift Bag Punch Board.

The little mummy is my all around favorite.  I added the little heart (it’s one of the builder items on the punch) and colored a little Razzleberry face in there – how easy is that?  There’s a little mummy brigade behind the tag punched directly onto the Kraft Tag a Bag gift bag.

The Gold Binder clips are perfect for attaching tags and closing up bags!  And that ribbon is the Peekaboo Peach taffeta – it blends very well with Pumpkin Pie!

Last in the lineup is the Skelly, accompanied by a Row of Ravens (Nevermore!) across the Petite Cafe Gift Bag.

Our new Kraft Rope trim is soft and easy to tie, and it coordinates with everything.  That’s my kind of accessory.

Here’s the lineup!  You can hand out treats, deliver home-baked goodies, or even fill them up with worms and dirt and give them to all of the naughty boys and girls.

Well, we wouldn’t really do that now, would we?

Next stop on the tour is Heather Mathieson, and she is definitely not going to be naughty – I know she has wonderful projects to share with you!  Enjoy the tour.

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses…well, not exactly! I’ve had a month to play with many of the products from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday 2016 catalog, and I thought I’d share my Maui Stamper Favorite Things with you.  I can’t promise that my list won’t change throughout the season, but here’s where it stands today:

#1.  Copper Foil Paper

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Copper Foil Paper

I’ve shared a sample using Santa’s Sleigh (see #8 below) and this paper is amazing. There’s coordinating Embossing Powder and Copper Thread in the Annual Catalog.  The look is rich and luxurious and this is my absolute favorite catalog product.

#2.  Cookie Cutter Christmas bundle

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp and punch bundle

These are the cutest!  I am not usually a “cute” card person, but this set has made a believer out of me! The images are easy to stamp and color, and a Wink of Stella is the perfect finishing touch.  You’ll use these over and over for cards, tags and package embellishments.

#3.  Mini Pine Cones

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Copper Foil Paper

AAAACCCKKK!!  I can’t stand how adorable these are!!  There’s nothing else to say.

#4.  Jolly Friends and the Jolly Hat punch bundle

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Jolly Friends and Jolly Hat Punch

All of the images in this set are cute – again, I’m usually not into cute, but I’m pleading the 5th!  The moose is my absolute fave, hands down.

#5.  Glitter Embossing Powder: Emerald Envy and Real Red

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Glitter Embossing Powder

If you’ve read my blog for any time at all, you’ll know that Mr. Maui Stamper is NOT (Capital N.O.T.) a fan of glitter.  This embossing powder keeps the sparkle in place and keeps my man happy.  In Real Red and Emerald Envy – gotta get ’em all!

#6.  Christmas Pines and Pretty Pines thinlits

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Christmas Pines and Pretty Pines thinlits

The thinlits alone are reason enough – those delicate branches have multiple applications.  There’s some gorgeous DSP and Washi to coordinate with this suite as well.

#7.  Tin of Tags Project Kit and the Tin of Tags stamps

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Tin of Tags kit and stamps

Last year we had Oh What Fun (and that set is still available and still one of my faves) but Tin of Tags has that TIN!!  If you’ve run out of creative holiday hostess gifts, look no further.  This is the One Gift to Rule them All.

#8.  Santa’s Sleigh stamp and thinlit bundle

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Santa's Sleigh stamps and thinlits

There are a million and one things you can do with this combination.  The main images of a sleigh, reindeer and tree are just the beginning!  Again, tags, cards and package embellishments are a snap with these versatile pieces.

#9.  Merry Mice (also available in wood)

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Merry Mice

I have to confess, I love these little critters.  I’m not inviting them into my house, but look at those ears!  Stamp them with Archival Ink (black or gray) on Shimmery White card stock for a gorgeous, easy-to-watercolor image.

#10.  Stampin’ Write Marker sets to Coordinate with the Designer Series paper!!

Maui Stamper Holiday 2016 Stampin' Write Marker sets

When I saw these, I actually jumped up and down.  I have wanted options for markers besides buying the full sets, and this catalog made my dream come true!!  Now you can stock up on your favorite colors – the ones that coordinate perfectly with our DSP – and color to your heart’s content.

So there you have it.  Lots of great products didn’t make the top 10, but it’s my party and I’ll choose what I want!

Stamping with Markers

Stampin’ Write markers are absolutely fabulous.  I love that they have a fine, journaling tip and a broad paintbrush tip.  I love the quality of the ink that gives such great saturation whether you’re applying ink to a stamp or coloring on paper.  And I really love that they coordinate with every single one of  the Stampin’ Up! exclusive colors!

The beautiful images in the Friends Never Fade stamp set were made for working with markers.  These bold flowers have just enough detail to create the perfect canvas for selectively applying ink with markers without being so detailed that a person could lose her mind in the process.  It might happen if  her mind was already wandering, but that’s a story no one wants to hear!

Friends Never Fade

  • Friends Never Fade and Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp sets
  • Vintage Vogue wheel
  • Very Vanilla, So Saffron and Chery Cobbler card stock
  • Old Olive and Tangerine Tango Classic ink pads
  • Chery Cobbler, Old Olive, Tangerine Tango and So Saffron Stampin’ Write markers
  • Kiwi Kiss patterns Designer Series Paper (retired)
  • So Saffron grosgrain ribbon  (Daffodil Delight is now available!)
  • Round tab punch
  • Blender Pen
  • So Saffron brads (Daffodil Delight is now available!)
  • Piercing tool, template and mat; straight edge (ruler)

Here are a couple of tips to make your Marker-to-Stamp technique pop:

  1. Ink the stamp with your primary color, then use a Blender pen to selectively remove ink you want to replace
  2. Begin with light colors, then add progressively dark colors.  This helps to avoid discoloring your markers if a light colored marker comes in contact with darker ink.
  3. Use the side of the brush end of your Stampin’  Write marker to add the ink, and use a gentle hand to avoid crushing the brush tip.
  4. Add a little texture by loading extra ink on a few points – notice the Old Olive leaves
  5. “Huff” on your stamp before applying it to paper to re-moisten all ink

As long as we’re in the helpful hint department, take a good look at those brads.  Nice and straight and evenly spaced, aren’t they?  The secret is the Piercing tool, template and mat.  I couldn’t begin to make a straight line of brads without them.

Have some fun with your markers!
